Subject: Around the World: Destination Australia [LAST ANSWERS REVEALED!]

Written By: whistledog on 08/03/12 at 2:57 pm

For this quiz, I start in Canada, and travel to Australia (and New Zealand).  All songs in the Australia/NZ quiz were chart hits in Canada.  All songs in the Canadian quiz found success in the charts outside of Canada, and if you wonder why there are so few, the reason being I will split them up for future quizzes.

Those 4 are correct.  I didn't think #2 would get solved so easy.  'I Believe' is somewhat of a forgotten song despite peaking at #7 in Canada and #33 in the US

"I believe" was their follow-uo single after "My girl ( gone , gone , gone)". I clearly remember hearing "I believe" somewhere around Valentines day in 1982. Not sure when it reached #7 in the charts since I don't have the charts. Nice song.

First of all, great quiz but I'm having trouble. Know the artist but the song, I'm not too sure of.

#22 is Men At Work-Overkill?
#25 Rick Springfield-Affair of the Heart?

I only know one of the remaining Canada songs in full... and that is #13, which is "Living On Video" by Trans-X. (I had no idea they were a Canadian band until now.)

As for the Australian songs, I can already name #3: "Under The Milky Way" by the Church. Off to look for more!

Australia #13: "Wishing I Was There" by Natalie Imbruglia. (Haven't heard that in ages!)
#14: Pseudo Echo's cover of "Funky Town".

And now I think this uses up my limit.

However, I do know 6 1/2 others...

Good quiz, although I haven't heard of many

Australia #23 - AC/DC - Thunderstruck

Australia #40 - INXS - Original Sin

Australia #42 - Little River Band - Take It Easy On Me ???

Australia #43 - DiVynals - I touch myself.  (I don't think that's how the group spells it, but close enough)

I either know the artist or I know the song, but not both.

For this quiz, I start in Canada

08 | Lime - Unexpected Lovers
12 | Claudja Barry - Boogie Woogie Dancing Shoes

Two down, many more to go.  I had to double-check before I discovered that Ms. Barry was from Scarberia by way of Jamaica, but yeah, I meant Lime from Montreal, not La Bouche, who may have had a French name, but who covered it much much later.

You got those two answers correct!

Claudja Barry is Jamaican born, yes.  I've often seen her referenced as solely as a Jamaican singer, which is always incorrect.
I never would have known growing up she was even Canadian had it not been for the CANCON logo on her records.

Those are all correct Peter :)

I did go with a few obscure ones.  I was a little hesitant to even put a Billy Thorpe song in the quiz because he didn't seem to have much success outside of Australia.  He had no hits in the UK, 1 hit in the US (Children of the Sun, 1979) and 2 hits in Canada (Over the Rainbow, 1964; In My Room, 1981)

3 out of 4.  #36 is not correct I am afraid.

Technically #16 is also incorrect, but I give you points for it because the version that was released in Canada under a different title, I do believe was the B side (is it even called a B side anymore?) released in most countries ...

Slightly off-topic, but if we're going for Dannii vs. Kylie, here's something really obscure:

  - Kylie Minogue, The Stupid Song, aka So Stupid (Wrath of Kylie), based on an interview in early 2004 (or before) that went terribly wrong...

I used to own the album, Waiata. My favorite part of the album was how "Hard Act to follow" transitioned into "One step ahead". There's a bit of a break in between, but I like the way the one track followed the other on the album.

I guess you had to be there..

#39 may or may not be correct.  Without a song title, no points :P lol

Good Times was the Gurus lone hit here in Canada and it only got to #95.  They promoted that song while on tour in America with The Bangles.  If you ever see the full video, you can see all 4 Bangles girls in it

From the hints only...

I seem to recall a band by the name of Kids With Crowns being mentioned before, and the song title may be In Your Face... or something entirely different! :-\\

Gina G.? :-\\ No idea what song it is.

A good guess on the 1st one, but no.  That other one is Gina G though :)

Canada #1. The only song I ever heard of by "Mahogany Rush" was a song called dragonfly. Honestly, I do not remember what it sounds like so this is a totally wild guess.

Jason, that Cananda #1 has been bugging me for some time but I think I got it now, if not
I'm digging out my albums.

#1 Cananda....A New Rock And Roll?

Thanks for the great quiz! Already looking forward to the next. :)

Can't say as I know the remaining songs - although I seem to recall Watercolour getting some airplay over here in 2010.
