I suggest the people that don't know certain songs should download them from Kazaa.

You may or may not like them but at least you can get an opinion on them. You can always delete them from your computer later on. LOL. ;)

I take it you're not dial up?
Do you know how long it would take to download all those? They'd all be golden oldies by the time I got them

I think that the extra money paid out for broadband is worth it. You can download a song in about 5 to 10 minutes. You would only need to download the songs you haven't heard of.

Hi Bobby - these things are proving popular aren't they?

Okay, from the top...

Hang On Sloopy - McCoys - 4 - great slab of garage-rock, which was still being played at every party I got dragged along to in the 70's/early 80's...ripped from the Vibrations' "My Girl Sloopy" from some years previous...

Higher Love - Stevie Winwood - 4 - not Stevie's best (I prefer "Valerie"), but good...

I'm Going Down - Bruce Springsteen - 2 - pretty weak, I'm afraid to say - almost Bruce-by-numbers...

My Best Friends' Girl - Cars - 4 - bigger here than in the US, partly due to the fact it was promoted via a picture disc (one of the first) - doesn't detract from the fact that it's good...

Since You've Been Gone - Rainbow - 4 - haven't heard this in ages (just running the thing through my head!), good piece of commercial hard rock from Ritch and Co...

We Built This City - Starship - 4 - quite a few people give this short shrift, which is a bit unfair...miles better than "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" which was unforgivable...!

To Be With You - Mr Big - 2 - no, couldn't quite get into this at all - okay as a piece of background music in the pub, I suppose...!

Oliver's Army - 4 - highly commercial and successful, and one of his better efforts...extremely clever lyrics...

Do Wah Diddy - Manfred Mann - 4 - okay, played to death but almost full marks for cleverly nicking someone else's song and making it their own...the original by the Exciters ain't bad either...

You Win Again - Bee Gees - 2 - a little too turgid for my liking - could probably sit through it without too much damage!

Teenage Rampage - Sweet - 4 - when the Sweet were well into "rocking" mode - good solid rhythm with ultra-commercial melody

Wild Wild Life - Talking Heads - 2 - vaguely remember this, but not immediately attention-grabbing...

Birdhouse In Your Soul - They Might Be Giants - 4 - completely off-the-wall piece of fluff - album ("Flood") wasn't bad either...

Money - Flying Lizards - 3 - er, well....it's different! For those unaware, this is the Barratt Strong classic treated to a "minimalist" arrangement for banjo and Sloane voice...oh, just download it if curious - it'll be easier!)

Michael Caine - Madness - 3 - when they went all "serious" on us...okay, but not as good as the earlier stuff...

Valerie from 1987 was excellent as well.

The trend with this thread is that 'Oliver's Army' and 'My best friends girl' are popular (which is great since I love them songs to death) and 'We built this city' by Starship gets a right bashing . . . I'm trying to work out why. It's not that bad is it? Confession time though Paul, I've got 'Nothing's gonna stop us now' as well.

Quoting:Birdhouse In Your Soul - They Might Be Giants - 4 - completely off-the-wall piece of fluff - album ("Flood") wasn't bad either...End Quote

The 1990 classic is a memory of mine that will never die. I will look for the album 'Flood'.

'Hang on Sloopy' - The Mccoys...1 (I never cared for this one or that other '60s favorite "Louie Louie")

'Higher love' - Steve Winwood...1 (Hate it. I always liked his "While You See a Chance")

'I'm going down' - Bruce Springsteen...2 (I was never a Bruce fan)

'My best friend's girl' - The Cars...2 (I'll go with "Let's Go")

'Since you've been gone' - Rainbow...4 (Hey, thanks for the reminder of an obscure song!)

'We built this city' - Starship...2 (Their last good stuff was in the '70s. For the '80s I'll go with "Sara")

'To be with you' - Mr Big...2

'Oliver's Army' - Elvis Costello...2 (I always liked "Green Shirt" on that album)
http://music.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?userid=3TK5QF5IVM&WRK=7029699

'Doo wah diddy' - Manfred Mann...2

'You win again' - Bee Gees...2 (c'mon, did anyone like the Bee Gees before 1975 - jive talkin' ??)

'Teenage Rampage' - The Sweet...2 (I'll stick with Ballroom Blitz and Fox on the Run)
http://music.barnesandnoble.com/search/product.asp?userid=3TK5QF5IVM&ean=724381941522

'Money' - Flying lizards...5 (A clever remake of a '60s song. And hey, check out "Ca Plane Pour Moi". A couple of great obscure songs from '78 and '80.)

'Michael Caine' - Madness...2 (I always liked "Our House")
