I pictured 1988 to be better than this. Anyone like 'Mary's Prayer' by Danny Wilson? - A classic. Anyway, moving on . . .

'When will I be famous' - Bros
Hi-pitched squealing from the brothers grim - 2
'Sign your name' - Terence Trent D'Arby
A bit boring. I liked 'If you let me stay' better - 2
'I think we're alone now' - Tiffany
I like this version with it's jutty beat - 3
'Tell it to my heart' - Taylor Dane
Her voice irritates me. I can't decide on the song. I'll give it a 3
'Shake your love' - Debbie Gibson
One of those 'cut and shut' cases. Sound like two different songs tacked together - 3
'I should be so lucky' - Kylie Minogue
Perhaps the start of the rise of the S/A/W empire - 4
'Hazy shades of winter' - Bangles  ???
'Don't turn around' - Aswad
Lovely song - 4
'Suedehead' - Morrissey
One of the few songs of his I like - 4
'Love changes everything' - Climie Fisher
Nice little song by a group we haven't seen much of in years - 4
'Everywhere' - Fleetwood Mac
Not bad, not great either - 3
'I want you back' - Bananarama
Quite good. Not as good as 'Love in the first degree' - 3
'Perfect' - Fairground Attraction
It's got to beeeeee . . . Distinctly average actually - 3
'Somewhere in my heart' - Aztec Camera
O.K, I prefer Good Morning Britain - 3
'Theme from S-Express' - S-Express
One of the big dance tracks of 1988 - 3
'Circle in the sand' - Bellinda Carlisle
Not bad. She ought to be careful she doesn't sound like Stevie Nicks - 3
'Got to be certain' - Kylie Minogue
Lovely bit of fluff - 4
'Fast car' - Tracy Chapman
Fast car, sllllooooowwww song - 1
'Everyday is like Sunday' - Morrissey
Hmm I like this effort from Morrissey as well - 4
'Nothings gonna change my love for you' - Glenn Medeiros
Ha! Ha! Oh dear . . . 2
'Push it' - Salt 'n' Peppa
Rubbish from the girls that named themselves after condiments - 1
'I don't want to talk about it' - Everything but the girl
I don't want to listen to it - 1
'Dirty Diana' - Michael Jackson
Nah. Not too fussed on it - 2
'The only way is up' - Yazz and The Plastic Population
A great dance track, anybody remember 'Doctor in the house'? - 4
'Don't worry, be happy' - Bobby McFerrin
I don't mind this song. Robin Williams just seemed to make the video that much more unbearable - 2
'A little respect' - Erasure
I like Erasure but this song doesn't grab me - 2
'Girl you know it's true' - Milli Vanilli
The video was shameful. What was the thing with those guys jogging on the spot and bouncing into each other like a pair of loonies? - 2
'First time' - Robin Beck
A one hit wonder in Britain. Gained a following after featuring on a Coca Cola advert. Great song - 4
'Smooth Criminal' - Michael Jackson
A yawnfest from Wacko Jacko. 1987/1988 seemed to be a period of time where he couldn't get it right - 1
'Good life' - Inner City
Absolutely boring - 1
'My perogative' - Bobby Brown
Nothing special but alright for Bobby Brown - 3

I think 'Get out of my dreams, get into my car' by Billy Ocean should be added to the list. I adore this song. Oh and does anybody remember 'Joe le Taxi' by Vannessa Paradise? Rubbish video but a wonderful song.

I think I'll shut up now . . .  :)

1988 - another 'not-very-good' year...oh well...

Bros - When Will I Be Famous 3 - whilst the US was being force-fed New Kids On The Block, we got Bros! The latest teen-scream...this was pure late-'80's squeaky pop, which very strangely had a waltz-time break in the middle, which confused the dancers...!
Terence Trent D'Arby - Sign Your Name 2 - a bit of a dirge, truth be told...disappeared soon afterwards...
Tiffany - I Think We're Alone Now 2 - the queen of the shopping mall! A pedestrian run through TJ's classic of many moons before...mind you, miles better than what she did to The Beatles...!
Taylor Dayne - Tell It To My Heart 3 - huge, noisy production by the woman with big hair and voice...
Debbie Gibson - Shake Your Love 2 - cutesy song by young cutie...did nothing for me...
Kylie Minogue - I Should Be So Lucky 3 - catchy number by the diminutive Aussie...how she's managed to play this game all these years is nothing short of astonishing...!
Bangles - Hazy Shade Of Winter 2 - not one of the girls' better outings...Paul Simon needn't lose any sleep over this...
Aswad - Don't Turn Around 2 - sickly pop-reggae thing, which was a throwaway B-side for Tina Turner a couple of years previous...
Morrissey - Suedehead 2 - the much-anticipated solo outing by the ex-Smiths frontman...not much to write home about...
Climie Fisher - Love Changes (Everything) 3 - reasonable mellow-ish attempt by the duo...the Rod Stewart similarities may well have been obvious - the song was originally offered to him...
Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere 3 - better than 'Lies' but still sounded like they were filling out time...
Bananarama - I Want You Back 3 - another SAW conveyor-belt outing...reasonable to a degree...
Fairground Attraction - Perfect 2 - I suppose the idea was good at the time, sort-of mix of folk and skiffle...but the song irritated before long...
Aztec Camera - Somewhere In My Heart 3 - okay radio-friendly fodder, not as good as their earlier stuff...
S-Express - Theme From S-Express 3 - Rose Royce's turn to be butchered...clattering dance floor stuff...
Belinda Carlisle - Circle In The Sand 3 - okay in a mellow sort-of way...but not her best...
Kylie Minogue - Got To Be Certain 2 - here she is again, with a song which desperately tries for a hook, but doesn't come close...
Tracy Chapman - Fast Car 2 - the woman promised an awful lot, but her voice is just so tiresome...
Morrissey - Every Day Is Like Sunday 3 - a better effort from the cheerful one...
Glenn Medeiros - Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You 3 - well-performed piece of slush...
Salt 'N' Pepa - Push It 1 - horrible! And what they done to 'Twist & Shout' later that year should've had them arrested...!
Everything But The Girl - I Don't Want To Talk About It 3 - note-for-note cover of Rod's biggie from yesteryear...not anyone's fault but the song is tiresome at the best of times...
Michael Jackson - Dirty Diana 1 - supremely awful!
Yazz & The Plastic Population - The Only Way Is Up 2 - 'anthemic' to some, but sounds like a very dated piece of dancefloor fodder to me...
Bobby McFerrin - Don't Worry Be Happy 3 - a 'different' sort of idea (which is probably why it done so well...) The man sneaked quietly back to the jazz arena soon afterwards...
Erasure - A Little Respect 4 - jaunty electro-pop number, which was only bettered by their next effort 'Stop"...
Milli Vanilli - Girl You Know It's True 2 - evidently it wasn't true, though...! Plodding euro-dance effort, which really shouldn't have been as big as it became...
Robin Beck - First Time 1 - awful twee-ish big ballad by singer who disappeared off the face off the earth afterwards...initially used as a promotional song for 'Coke', the song had more sugar in it than the drink did...!
Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal 1 - single #48 from 'Bad'...would it ever end?!!
Inner City - Good Life 2 - another thudding dancefloor epic...if you were foolish enough to stand near a speaker in a club while this was playing at full volume, you may have got your hearing back by the following month...!
Bobby Brown - My Prerogative 2 - never really much into that 'swingbeat' stuff he (and eventually countless others) did...rather forgettable...

That makes a lot of sense, Paul. Climie Fisher lead singer had that kind of rugged voice.

I heard 'Twist and shout' by Salt 'n' Pepa and was disgusted. I preferred the Isley Brothers version.
