...then may I cordially suggest that you beg/steal/borrow/download a copy, Fuss...it's nothing short of excellent...!

Where was I? Oh yes...

1. Loves Me Like A Rock - Paul Simon 4 - wonderfully laid-back number with effortless backing by the Dixie Hummingbirds...
2. Superfly - Curtis Mayfield 4 - the soul maestro gets into the funk with this belter...sadly got a little bit too involved with it and his later efforts suffered...
3. We're An American Band - Grand Funk Railroad 4 - they certainly were! No-nonsense stormer...
4. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John 4 - yet another text-book example of his command of melody...could've quite easily turned out as a dirge, but avoids it easily...
5. Could It Be I'm Falling In Love - Spinners 5 - adorably smooth soul...fantastic...
6. Love Train - O'Jays 5 - absolute screamer! No stopping this...still an essential track to this day...
7. Brother Louie - Stories 3 - took a bit of a while to get used to, as I'm more familiar with our original version by Hot Chocolate, which is superior...good effort, though...
8. Long Train Runnin' - Doobie Brothers 4 - another stone classic from the lads...suffered a needless remix to eventually chart over here in '93 (I think), and also a totally pointless cover by Bananarama...and you all thought their version of 'Venus' was bad...!!
9. Ain't No Woman (Like The One I Got) - Four Tops 3 - floundered a bit after leaving Motown, this effort being the most successful...good song and well-performed, but not a patch on the groundbreaking stuff from the previous decade...
10. Midnight Train To Georgia - Gladys Knight & The Pips 4 - ...yet Gladys didn't flounder after leaving Motown! Timeless smooth soul...
11. Right Place Wrong Time - Dr John 4 - one of New Orlean's finest, with one of his finest songs...didn't stand a cat-in-hell's chance of charting here (we were still too busy with the Osmonds...!)
12. The Cisco Kid - War 4 - another bunch who meant hardly anything here...! Brilliant tune...
13. Hello It's Me - Todd Rundgren 5 - just utterly superb!
14. Diamond Girl - Seals & Crofts 3 - good duo, but this is a bit of a weak one from them...
15. Stuck In The Middle With You - Stealer's Wheel 4 - just a touch on the overplayed side, but magnificent laid-back stuff nonetheless...
16. Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple 4 - great crunching power-chords cunningly disguised as a riff...near-enough typical '70's Purple, but still great...
17. Ramblin' Man - Allman Brothers Band 3 - good performance, but the song doesn't quite land that killer blow...
18. Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye 5 - you don't even have to have heard this to know what Marv's on about! Wonderfully sensual piece of work...
19. Walk On The Wild Side - Lou Reed 4 - sparse, yet enthralling performance complete with that fiendishly simple and momentous three-note bass riff...wow!

What? No 'Tie A Yellow Ribbon'? Shameful...!!

Through a glass darkly.... :)

1. Loves Me Like A Rock - Paul Simon - 4

2. Superfly - Curtis Mayfield - 5

3. We're An American Band - Grand Funk Railroad - the white-trash anthem... ;)  - 4

4. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John - great song initially but overplayed and got a bit tiresome - 3

5. Could It Be I'm Falling In Love - The Spinners - 4

6. Love Train - The O'Jays - 3

7. Brother Louie - Stories - never could get into this one - 'Mamie Blue' and 'Another Love' were much better... - 2

8. Long Train Runnin' - Doobie Brothers - 1

9. Ain't No Woman (Like The One I Got) - The Four Tops - disliked it at the time, but sounds much better now - 3

10. Midnight Train To Georgia - Gladys Knight & The Pips -2

11. Right Place, Wrong Time - Dr. John - couldn't stand this song :P - 1

12. The Cisco Kid - War - ibid - 1

13. Hello It's Me - Todd Rundgren - Todd had a few good songs - this wasn't one of them. So predictably, it was his only big hit... ::) ) - 2

14. Diamond Girl - Seals and Crofts - see comment re: Todd Rundgren - 2

15. Stuck In The Middle With You - Stealers Wheel - I much preferred their followups: 'Everyone's Agreed' and 'Star', but this was still a good tune - 4

16. Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple - the other white-trash anthem. I actually have a tape of myself and 4 friends playing the riff to this over and over on a 1-stringed guitar, a cheap kid's organ, spoons and a table... :D Good song, but overplayed - 3

17. Ramblin' Man - The Allman Brothers Band - 2

18. Let's Get It On - Marvin Gaye - another one that I disliked at the time, but it sounds okay now - 3

19. Walk On The Wild Side - Lou Reed - of course the radio never played the second verse.... :o - 4
