'More' Floyd...!

1. Bike
4. Astronomy Domine
5. Interstellar Overdrive
All grouped together from the first Floyd LP 'Piper At The Gates Of Dawn'...can't rate this album highly enough, all tracks bar one (Pow R Toch) being simply amazing...5 for each...

2. Arnold Layne - 4, only Syd could write an ode to a bloke stealing clothes, and make a success of it...!

3. See Emily Play - 5, more strange topics from Syd, this time about a girl's mental decline...completely soaked in all things psych...fabulous...

6. Echoes - 4, powerful closer to 'Meddle', can be a bit heavy-going to the first-time listener...

7. Speak To Me/Breathe 4, good opening DSOM shots...

8. Have A Cigar
9. Welcome To The Machine
10. Shine On You Crazy Diamond
A stunning trio of 'WYWH' songs...'Shine On...' being the most accomplished...4 for 'Cigar', 5 for the other two...

11. Dogs
12. Pigs On The Wing
A couple of lengthy 'Animals' pieces...when Waters really started pouring bitterness into his lyrics...good, but not my favourite...both 4...

13. Empty Spaces/ Young Lust
14. Mother
15. Hey You
Various pieces from 'The Wall'...work well in the overall effect of the concept, but they don't do much as standalone pieces...'Mother' gets 4, everything else 3...

18. A Saucerful Of Secrets - one of the early examples of a 'conceptual' piece, which soon after became Floyd's stock-in-trade...not a favourite of mine...3

'Careful With That Axe, Eugene'...I know I've got this knocking around somewhere...I've never given it the attention I suppose I should...!

Well Billy, judging by the way Syd was dropping the acid at the time...I wouldn't have thought that even he knew what he was thinking...!

I s'pose a bit of an explanation would go along the lines of what British psych was all about, i.e., a fascination with trivialities, bygone eras and regressions into childhood themes...a lot of Brit psych bands (and even no-so psych bands) went this way during '66-'68...quite a different beast from its American cousin...
