Johnny Cash
Made a couple of alright hits. 'Ring of fire' and 'I guess things happen that way' - 3
Dolly Parton
This highly inflated country singer had an irritating voice - 2
Charlie Rich
I think I only heard one of his 'Daddy don't you walk so fast'. That one was alright - 3
Kenny Rogers
He loved those slow yawnsome country ballads that were dreadful. 'Lady' was horrid - 1
Eddie Rabbit
I like 'I love a rainy night' - 3
Garth Brooks
Some of his songs are good. 'Bootscootin' Boogie' and 'Only in America' are songs that stick in my mind. The first song doesn't sound as bad as the title suggests - 4
Willie Nelson
Another bloke that tends to like those slow country ballads. Not keen on him I'm afraid - 1
Shania Twain
Commercial country/pop singer that makes a few catchy tunes. 'You're still the one' and 'Don't be stupid' (especially the remix) are great.
Faith Hill
I love the song 'This kiss'. Not sure about the rest of her stuff - 4

It depends on what you want out of a country song, Billy. I prefer the rocky country singers (like Garth Brooks and Shania Twain) and the swingy style (like Verne Gosdin's 'You're gonna love me tonight' and Lone star's 'Tequila talkin'').

A couple more that I recommend are . . .

'The man who shot Liberty Vallance' - Gene Pitney

'Life's a dance' - John Michael Montgomery

Johnny Cash  Johnny Cash is of course the greatest...he has many incredably great songs....plus, his Version of Hurt is one of the best Ive ever heard
Johnny Paycheck  take this job and shove it....thats about it
Waylon jennings  he of course was in Buddy Hollys Crickets....he was a good artist too, but not one that I really know well
Hank Williams Sr.  a classic, but I really prefer his stuff done by others rather than him
Hank Williams jr  sucks
Hank Williams III  sucks
Dolly Parton  she was the first one to cross over to pop from country, but I dont really care for her...there probably is a song from her that I like, but I cant think of it....maybe Islands in the stream
Charlie RIch  another great one....one of the first on SUn records with Elvis....I like his work
Kenny Rogers   I reallt prefer his psycholdelic rock stuff with the First edition in the 60s and early 70s...but some of his country is ok...I like the Gambler
Bellemy Brothers  let your love flow...thats it
Eddie Rabbit  I love a Rainy night...thats it
Garth Brooks  you know, he gets alot of unwarrented flack..hes a pretty good country/rock artist....
Merle Haggard  a classic, but I dont know a thing about  him
Don Larson  Oh Lonesome me...thats it
Willie Nelson  you see, he was a good artist...hhe had a bunch of great songs...On the road again, Always on my mind..etc
Lorretta Lynn  the White Stripes dedicated White Blood Cells to her...other than that, I really dont see why she is so special.....
Shania Twain  I thought maybe I really shouldnt put her here...shes not really country anymore....I cold just base this on her country music, which is decent, but I wont...when she crossed over, she had a few good songs, and Im not ashamed to admit that...
Faith Hill  see above
Flatts and Scruggs  Dueling Banjos....thats it

also, i didnt include a few Country Rock combinations....like Gene Pitney, or Gram Parsons, or the Byrds or the Flying Burrito Brothers, or The Jayhawks or Whiskey Town or Ryan Adams...they are all great though
