Subject: RT:  Songs 10-27-03

Written By: hannahbear on 10/27/03 at 12:41 a.m.

I decided to pick one song from each of the CDs in my  CD collection for people to rate.  I'll post 25 songs at a time so you're not bombarded with a 150 item-long list.  :)   Have fun!

P.S.  Some of the lists will probably have multiple songs from the same artist, since I try to alphabetize my collection.

1.  I've Seen All Good People:  Your Move--Yes
2.  The Living Years--Mike and The Mechanics
3.  You're Lucky I Love You--Susan Ashton
4.  Little Bird--Sherrie Austin
5.  Something--The Beatles
6.  We are Not Alone--Karla DeVito
7.  Please Mr. Postman--Carpenters
8.  We Both Reached For the Gun--from Chicago soundtrack
9.  My Sacrifice--Creed
10.  Love is Strange--Mickey and Sylvia
11.  Goodbye Earl--Dixie Chicks
12.  White Trash Wedding--Dixie Chicks
13.  Inner City Blues (Make me Wanna Holler)--Marvin Gaye
14.  All I Really Wanna Do--Bob Dylan
15.  Talkin' Bear Mountain Picnic Massacre Blues--Bob Dylan
16.  Tangled up in Blue--Bob Dylan
17.  Every Grain of Sand--Bob Dylan
18.  Blowin' in the Wind--Bob Dylan
19.  Hurricane--Bob Dylan
20.  Subterranean Homesick Blues--Bob Dylan
21.  Sara--Bob Dylan
22.  Lay Lady Lay--Bob Dylan
23.  A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall--Bob Dylan

Yep!  Which explains why it was between the Beatles and the Carpenters.  :)

1. I've Seen All Good People - Yes 4, amazing group...somewhat self-indulgent and complex at times, therefore they don't appeal to all - both songs in the suite I'll rate equally...

2. The Living Years - Mike & The Mechanics 3

5. Something - Beatles 3

7. Please Mr Postman - Carpenters 3, bearable...just! They really should've not tackled this...

10. Love Is Strange - Mickey & Sylvia 4, good '50's RnB number with cool guitar riff...The Everlys did a fairly good cover the following decade...

13. Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler) - Marvin Gaye 4, fine track from powerful album...

And finally, we come to Dylan...
Most of Bob's performances I tend to avoid...there's just something about that 'whine' of his that grates me...but there are a few notable exceptions...

16. Tangled Up In Blue 4

20. Subterranean Homesick Blues 4

22. Lay Lady Lay  4

...whilst other songs of his ('All I Really Want To Do', 'Blowin' In The Wind', etc.) have had much better covers by various artists...

I like their version, but your comment made me laugh despite that.  :)

I don't remember what "real" studio album this was featured on; it was one from the late 70s/early 80s I'm pretty sure (Slow Train Coming, Infidels...of that time period).  The version I have is on his Bootleg Series Volume 3, which is a much better version than the real album version (though I've only heard the album version a couple times).
