I'm not at all comfortable with the Pacers chances this year. They've lost 3 starters (Reggie, J.O., Jeff Foster) and four altogether. It's time for Coach Carlisle to earn his paycheck. :-\\

The Pacers' 4 game winning streak came crashing down tonight as they only suited 9 players and were crushed at home by the Los Angeles Clippers 102-68. That's right, not the Lakers and not at Staples Center, and not a very pretty sight if you were at Conseco FH. Hopefully, Ron Artest will learn, from a two-game team imposed suspension, a lesson not the bite the hand that feeds him. The Pacers need him, but Coach Carlisle would rather lose the rest of his games than Ar-testes spouting his mouth every game.  :(

Okay....Ben Wallace is a PUNK...fights Ron Artest...Artest raises his arms and then lays on the scorers table...things are almost calmed down when a FAN throws a beer on Artest. Now I think Ron was wrong to go after the fan butC'MON!!! Suspended for the YEAR!! Fine, but why aren't the fans that threw the beer in jail ???

Subject: Re: NBA Season-2004-2005

Written By: Indy Gent on 11/21/04 at 9:21 pm

I agree with everything you said, Rock. The Pistons should also be held accountable for their actions and lack of security. The only bad part would be that an already decimated Pacers squad has been dealt the worst of it, as well as it should, but the fans that taunted and threw the beer should not be able to attend another Pistons' game. I really feel sorry for the fans that did nothing to provoke the brawls, which (judging from news clips) were few and far between.

Fans are never held accountable for their mess! I agree the situation was going to be calmed, but hello, a fan decides to be an ass! Well, I don't think they'll do that again, especially the ones who thought they had the cajones to get on the court.

When you have sportwriters like Dan "The Idiot" Wetzel from Yahoo! who only see things from one side anyway (usually against local teams), fans will always get away with something even though the tape shows they are not totally innocent.

Last week the Celtics gave 400 extra tickets away to season ticket holders hoping to fill up the arena for it's
home game, it didn't work.  I called the ticket office and told them that my son would love to go to a game
but I couldn't afford it this year, he has autism so when we do get seats we have to pay up to get decent seats for him, and would it be possible to get a two tickets to the game.  Nope, only if we were season ticket holders. Goobers.  I'll wait a couple of games and see what happens.

But they're trailing the Bulls 24-11 with only 2:45 in the 1st. :(

Today it's Shaq vs Kobe...here's my personal feelings about these two "Egos"

Shaq-Good: Dominates the paint like nobody's business, is a kind hearted guy...

Bad: Years ago he was introduced to Spencer Haywood...a man who played in the ABA and was the person most responsible for getting the stuffy old nba to allow players to come in before completing college...The Hardship Draft...Shaq simply said to Haywood "Get out of my face, I don't know you!" If it weren't for Spencer Haywood Shaq would not have been allowed to leave LSU and join Orlando when he did.

2. Ego

Kobe-Good: Has all the tools to be the next Michael Jordan....

Bad: "Knows" he has sa gift and is a spoiled rich jerk about it.

Raped "Allegedly" raped a girl....and now in the civil trial he wants nothing to be brought up about HIS sexual past..but it was perfectly alright to bring up hers

So the bottom line for me today....Go Heat! Sorry, Jeff :-\\

Things I take out of the NBA season so far:

-Philly was impressive in beating Portland and Seattle on back to back to nights on the road. That is hard to do.

-It will be interesting to see how the New Jersey Nets do with Vince Carter the rest of the way. They still have no guy who can shoot it from the outside. They also need a big man. They need a guy like a Karl Malone or a Clifford Robinson on this team. Also they can use a Jalen Rose on this team also.

-Miami Heat-Can they keep up this incredible run that they are on? In my mind Shaq and Dwayne Wade are the stars of that team but Damon Jones is their most important player.  Jones keeps the scoring pressure off of Shaq and Dwayne Wade.

-Are the Phoenix Suns for real? I would have to say yes. With the offseason's signings of Steve Nash and Quentin Richardson along with players who were already there like Amere Stoudamire, and Shawn Marion I thought this team could be like the Detroit Pistons of last year in terms of sneaking up on people. This Suns team actually plays defense. Past Suns teams never played defense. I hope they learned a lesson the other night when the Spurs whopped them by 20 points though.

The biggest dissapointment is the Detroit Pistons. On some nights they like look good: came back back from a 8 point defecit with 4:00 minutes left in the game to beat the Nets the other night, rallied to beat the Kinicks at the garden, beat the pacers on Christmas day and rallied from a 15 point defecit in the second half to beat a young and upcoming Washington Wizards team on the road. At other times they have looked horrible: losing to the expansion Charlotte Bobcats, losing to the Chicago Bullls at home, and losing to the Miami Heat at home the other night. Its not that they lost to the Heat its the way they lost. They were leading 76-71 in the 4th quarter and had led most of the game. The Pistions than lost the game 89-78. Rasheed Wallace and Chauncey Billups went a combined 2 for 13 on Field goals in the 4th quarter against the Heat.

This weekend is the NBA All Star weekend. It will be the 3rd time the city of Denver has hosted an All-Star game. 1984 was the last time for the NBA and back in 1976 The ABA All-Star Game was held at the old McNichols Sports Arena. It was the team with the best record at the break, thanfully Denver, against all-stars from the other 6 remaining teams in the, the last year of the ABA's existence. The Nuggets won the game 144-138. Maybe more interesting though, this was the first slam dunk contest ever held.

http://remembertheaba.com/ABAAllStarGames/AllStar9.JPG

9th ABA All-Star Game: January 27, 1976
Site: Denver, Colorado (McNichols Arena)
Attendance: 17,798
All Star Coach: Kevin Loughery, New York Nets
Denver Nuggets Coach: Larry Brown
Winner: Denver Nuggets, 144-138
MVP: David Thompson, Denver Nuggets

Glen Campbell and Dr. J: The 1976 ABA All-Star Game
That's right--Glen Campbell (right) was there to see Julius Erving's legendary slam dunk from the free-throw line at the 1976 ABA All-Star Game in Denver. See the McNichols Arena scoreboard in the background?

http://remembertheaba.com/ABAAllStarGames/RichScoreboard.JPG
The organizers of the game were worried that the game would not sell out. So they hired Glen Campbell and Charlie Rich to give a two-hour pre-game concert.
Because of the concert, and because of the slam dunk contest at halftime, the game ended well after midnight, Denver time. Due to this time factor, a number of fans left in the third quarter and missed a record 52 Denver points in the fourth quarter. The Nuggets came away with a thrilling 144-138 victory over the ABA All-Stars.

Thanks Jeff, the only joy I get out of your Lakers downfall, is not seeing Kobe in the playoffs ;)

Thanks Mark. We needed that one after the Nets swept us in back-to-backer. But I would have liked to see the Pacers win with the Spurs' Tim Duncan at his best. If we do make the playoffs, and we're only inches in front of the Nets, Sixers, and Magic, let's hope for a longer life than last year's Detroit lambasting.

I hope you guys can stay in the playoff race...let's hope both our teams can go deep into them...perhaps meet in the finals ;) Dare I dream :)

I'll have to agree with you about Kobe... on the other hand if we don't make it, that's that... :-\\

If you guys make it (and we don't), then by all means I'll cheer for the Nuggets. ;) I have no idea how they're doing right now, though.

Thanks Jeff, but we need to seriously work on our defense :-\\ We'll see how the next few games go. I think right now we wouldn't get out of the 1st round of the playoffs!

We'll see what happens...

By the way, my lakers actually won on Tuesday night (snapping a 7-game losing streak)...but I don't really care anymore, since it don't look like they're gonna be in the playoffs. :-\\ I guess my team's gonna have to wait until the 2005-06 season to try again :-\\

You probably wish they'd get rid of Kobe as much as I couldn't wait for The Broncos to trade Bill Romonowski :P

Two in a Row
Nuggets Head Coach George Karl was named Western Conference Coach of the Month for March, marking the second-straight month in which he has been honored. Karl led the Nuggets to a 12-2 record during March, which was the best in the NBA.

Denver trailed midway through the first quarter, but never again in Friday's 102-84 home win over San Antonio. Earl Boykins led five players in double figures with 23 points. Nenê scored 18 and Marcus Camby starred with 15 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks. The Nuggets visit Portland on Saturday.

As you said in the haiku thread, Mark, the Pacers missed a golden opportunity to clinch their 8 straight playoff season, losing in OT to the Knicks at home, 113-112. It breaks both the Pacers 5 game winning streak and the *ricks' 9 game skid. I hope the Pacers don't blow it in the next 2 weeks. Except for the last Miami game (who still thinks they'll beat Shaq four straight), they should have it easy. But then again, nothing has been easy for Indiana this season. ::)
