Subject: Finally...a biopic about the late INTIMIDATOR Dale Earnhardt! here's the date...

There is going to be an ESPN Original TV-movie about the late DALE EARNHARDT....from the previews it looks pretty interesting. It is airing for the first time on December 11th.....I plan on watching it! Are any of you NASCAR fans planning on watching it,taping it,or TiVoing it?

Oh yeah I'm watching. He was the best and still is! No one could wheel a racecar like the man #3. The guy playing the part looks a little wimpy though to be the Intimidator. I met Dale Sr. once at a local dirt track that I was racing at in 1988, he was down to earth and so focused on racing it was ALL he was about. These days ALL the drivers pale in comparison, example when Jr. or the others come in 2nd or worse they say "it was a good day for the Budweiser-Bass Pro Shop- Gm-Champion Spark plugs-Viagra-moon Pie-Chevrolet we had a good finish there in fifth-we'll take that!" But Dale Sr. simply "second sucks". He was all about winning and driving the wheels off the racecar. His aggressive driving style cost him a couple of championships- he easily could have been a 9 time champ. He did things in a car no one else has ever done-The "pass in the grass" comes to mind and there are many Nascar drivers who will tell you when it comes down to driving- he was the best. If his car was right you could not out drive him. I could go on forever about him, I miss him so much that I rarely watch Nascar anymore it's so commercialized now and with team drivers and big money endorsements that a guy can ride around in 25th and make millions. Oh for the days when that big black (or the old yellow and blue) chevy filled up a drivers rear view mirror and knowing "here he comes". Man, I get cold chills thinking about it. Hope the movie does him justice, it has to or his fans will roar.

This movie looks MUCH better than that Pete Rose garbage from last month!
As for Dale Sr. he was the BEST....I don't CARE how many wins Richard Petty had....Petty raced when it seems like they had 5 races per week so of course he had more chancesd to win! I don't have anything against Petty but I just never bought into this "He's The KING" garbage!

Exactly! once again we agree R and R Fan. The record is distorted by number of races entered and won. Petty raced over two thousand sanctioned Nascar races- Earnhardt raced in the era where they only raced 30 or so per year. I saw where it snowed out in Colorado- send some down south Man. I love it! God took care of in the elections too didn't he? Life is good.

Hey! I wish you would "Join" this place! Next....I think Earnhardt was the BEST ever! We agree! I'd be happy to send you some of this snow...though we barely got any here in Colorado Springs, compared to Denver :D Lastly, I stay OUT of the political threads now. I see and hear liberals STILL crying about Bush winning but in there ALL they seem to say is "It's already over"..."Stop Talking About It" and "That's enough already"....can you say Double Standards?!  ::)

Once again We agree. I STILL believe in the things this country was founded on and God has blessed us because of it. How do I "join"? What does it consist off? Oh yeah the topic- Earnhardt- everything else is just a substitute.

Hey...Dale Jr. is not too shabby as a racer either....hey,he learned SOME things from his dad....unlike Kyle Petty, who never seems to do well! I think the closest to a tough-as-nails Earnhardt style driver nowadays is Tony Stewart....Tony does not like to lose either, but he has the same heart of gold that Dale Sr. did.

Saw It! It wasn't bad BUT could have been much better, maybe because I'm a big fan and know more details than the screenwriter knew but they seemed to have sped through his later driving accomplishments, like he was a Nascar rookie then a second later two time champ then a second later starting his last Daytona. They "touched" on aspects of his life and I think overblew the Waltrip conflict because they did have heated racing "talks: they never let it get too personal as the movie suggested. Darrell is probably ticked about this. And God! the commercials!!! They had time to do his life story right if they had cut down on the commercials. A 1 hr movie with 1 hr of commercials.
Over all Barry Pepper did okay at capturing Earnhardt's image but it's like Kurt Russel playing me, Uh Elvis... I mean come on - like comparing apples with gold. But i understand somebody has to do it. I did like the ending with Earnhardts father finally hugging him and telling him he loved him instead of earlier when he had just walked past him and said' let's go Dale". Good ending. I only wished the movie had shown why Earnhardt was so great, they missed the heart of it. But these days as movies go - i'll take this one and will buy it on the 14th.

I just watched it and thought it was very well done. I never knew that Earnhardt and Darrel Waltrip had such a heated rivalry back in the day. I thought it was really cool how they brought all those old race cars out for the new footage (and weren't afraid to bang them up a little bit!)

Earnhardt and Waltrip did have a heated rivalry but not as personal as the movie depicted. Waltrip was the top dog in Nascar at the time Earnhardt came onto the scene beatin' and bangin' respect from everyone with his guts grit and determination to win, Eventually Waltrip's anger at Earnhardt turned to respect also - later they were the best of friends. I agree those old vintage race cars looked good on the track again, I just wished the movie would have spent more time showing what made Earnhardt great- which was his driving ability and how it seperated him from all the rest and what got him to be "The Intimidator". To those unlearned in racing will still be wondering "what made him better than other racers?' The movie never showed it!! Show him making the moves no one else would dare make and winning, show him going three deep in a turn while the other two back off afraid- he was not. Show him being crowded into the grass at near 200 mph and staying on the gas and coming back onto the track still in first place-Amazing! That was the heart of Earnharrdt and the movie sadly missed that.

They followed it up with a show on ESPN Classic where Buddy Baker and some other guys went over his career :-\\

IMHO,I think all Earnhardt haters are jealous that their drivers were/are too WORRIED ABOUT THEIR GOOD GUY IMAGE to pull off all the gutsy, fearless moves INTIMIDATOR did....a lot of those naysayers must be fans of a certain driver(hint....sponsored by DuPont and drives for Rick Hendrick)! If there were NO Dale Earnhardts,Rusty Wallaces,Cale Yarbouroughs, and IMO,Tony Stewart-types,NASCAR would be as exciting as...watching the grass grow. And another thing....those IMO 'Politically Correct' types who think NASCAR is 'biased' because there are 'no minorities' in racin' yet....remember HOW LONG IT TOOK MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TO 'INTEGRATE'..there ARE minority up-and-comers in NASCAR,they just have not made it to 'the big leagues'(NEXTEL CUP)yet....it WILL happen. So go soak your head...and go back to watching GOLF!
