Subject: The MENTOR(Jeff Gordon)vs. The Protege(Jimmie Johnson)..

Hey fellow NASCAR fans....do you think Jimmie Johnson will be as successful,championship-wise,as his teammate and mentor Jeff Gordon?(Gordon has won FOUR championships)....

A poll would've been nice ;)

what I really wanted to do is rather than just a poll I wanted to get a real discussion going among other NASCAR fans on this thread about Jimmie's chances for a title...will he ever be the repeat champ Jeff Gordon is...what Jimmie might have to change or improve to get a few Nextel Cup titles...and does Jimmie have the personality that Jeff does...

Hey Tonyfan, you must be pleased with his win at Sears point. As for Jimmie Johnson being a multiple champ I don't know. I'm thinking that we are going to see less mutiple champs for the next few years. I've got a couple questions for you on the 2 road races, which are my favorite.
-should they do more or less of these road course races during the season? and do you agree with some teams using the ringers on these races?

That's cool, I understand :)

I don't think Jimmie Johnson will be the next Jeff Gordon.

I think it might give an unfair advantage,points-wise,for certain teams to use 'specialist' road-course drivers at places like Infineon(aka Sears Point)and Watkins Glen....let 'em use their regular drivers, coz it gives their regulars a chance to learn the skills needed to be successful at all race tracks!!

I agree with you, although these are my favorite Nascar races to watch and the specialists that they use are guys I watch all the time in other series like Ron Fellows, Boris Said and Scott Pruett I think that they should use their full time drivers. They were interviewing Mike Wallace before the Sears Point race and he was pissed that he had to sit out and watch PJ Jones drive his car. And do you think there should be more or less road races? :)

The race schedule works fine just the way it is. I like the stuff that goes on at the ovals, like drafting and teamwork....and Daytona and Talladega, both restrictor-plate races, where they are superfast!!

A lot of folks on NASCAR.COM have been saying that Jimmie Johnson has 'gotten an attitude' recently..they blame his recent marriage to his wife Chandra... ::) ???

Kurt Busch used to be somewhat cocky...the 2004 Nextel Cup Champ has matured a LOT.

Harvick is pretty cocky... I like him, but he can be a brat sometimes.

On Johnson I don't think he is cocky but he has taken a damper to his reputation this year though. Dale Earnhardt after the race at Talledega back in May Johnson the dumbest driver out there for that particular race anyway. Johnson has also had in-run ins with Tony Stewart twice once at the end of the Daytona 500 and once during a race at Phoenix a couple of months back.

Yeah Busch took his lumps when he first started out in the NExtel Cup Series. I remember that verbal battle he had with former Nextel Cup Driver Jimmy Spencer.

Oh yeah congrats to my favorite driver Rusty Wallace for finishing 4th last night. Anytime Rusty can get a top 10 at both Daytona races in the same season we will take it. The early to mid 90's Rusty had his hard times at restrictor plate tracks at Daytona and Talladega. Rusty and his crew chief Larry Carter are working together really well this year. The young guys like Stewart, Biffle, and Johnson are tough guys to beat though.

Harvick once got suspended a couple years ago for one race. NASCAR almost never suspends drivers though.

Get this...Kevin Harvick's nickname is Happy Harvick...LMAOROFL!

At least Kevin's significant other,Delana,is not to blame for his misdeeds...

Speaking of  significant others.... who did Jeff Gordon have on his side on Saturday night? Is she a regular girlfriend or what? I guess I haven't noticed before.

I don't know who the lucky gal is...
I'd like to actually meet Tony Stewart...from what I've heard on his message board at NASCAR.com most folks who have met him say he's actually a pretty friendly guy away from the racetrack..he does a lot of appearances at Home Depot stores(of course)and other celeb meet 'n greets...
