Subject: Indiana's own TONY STEWART gets the WIN at the BRICKYARD....ALLSTATE 400

Written By: Tony20fan4ever on 08/07/05 at 5:48 pm

Just had to mention that Tony Stewart just got his dream of winning in Indianapolis...The Brickyard 400! Way to go! 8)

This is something "Smoke"(his nickname)has wanted for a long time.

People might not like Tony  ???..but respect is due for the guy for winning this race in his home state.

Congrats, your boy is coming on strong since his win at Sears Point. I didn't see the race, just catching some highlights right now. Did he climb the fence? Where did that come from?

He was strong at the end, when it counted. I was a little disgruntled with all the blown tires. I do
wish NASCAR would let Goodyear choose the tires and stop this "soft tire" nonsense.
I held my breath the last 5 laps hoping Tony or nobody else had a blowout.

Does this mean Tony has to "trade in" his Nextel Cup championship trophy?  ;D

I'm sad that Dale Jr. was out but ecstatic that Gordon didn't win and Tony and Casey came in 1-2 :)

Tony won the championship when it was still the WINSTON Cup.

Well, I am a Rusty Wallace fan but I like seeing Stewart do well like this. Tony and his crew cief Greg Zipadelli have been really clicking on all cylinders for over a month now. Hats off to Tony for winning today. I know it has been a dream of his to win at Indianapolis Motor Speedway ever since he started out in the Indy Racing League in 1996. The Indy Racing Leauge is the Racing Series that has been the racing series that has been hosting the Indy 500 since 1996. Tony Stewart did race in the Indy Racing Leauge before making the move to The Winston Or Nextel Cup Series(whatever you want to call it) in 1999. I know Tony make race in the Busch Series sometimes before making the step up to Cup Racing. I am not sure if Tony however ever did a full year worth of Busch Series Racing though. For anybody who doesn't know what the Busch Series is its cup's racing minor league basically.

Tony won the championship when it was still the WINSTON Cup.
And I think he's going to win a championship this year as well :)

Yes, I know, but everyone in broadcasting refers to them all as Nextel Cup champs. Heaven forbid they should mention "Big Tobacco". Personally, I feel if the trophy says 19** Winston Cup Champion, then they are Winston Cup Champs.  ;)

Why some people are 'creeped out' by or have hatred for Tony Stewart, I'll never understand. Yes he's made mistakes in the past. But there are more 'problem' people in other sports...like Barry "Steroid Poster Boy" Bonds...those are the people who TRULY are jerks. Why...Because they REALLY set a bad example. Tony has straightened out a lot. Change does not happen overnight.

Tony's championship was won in 2002...and yes it was called the Winston Cup back then when he won it. Nextel became the sponsor because Winston opted out. And Nextel has the big bucks.

Just out of curiousity...do you have anything AGAINST Tony Stewart? What really BAD or ILLEGAL(as in against the law,not against NASCAR's rules)has he done?

Sorry if I said anything wrong. It's just that Tony has not done anything like Barry Bonds...or "Pothead Idiot" Ricky Williams. Those people TRULY have a serious problem.

I watched Tony come up through the ranks(midgets, Silver Crown, etc.) at all the local tracks here. He was something to watch at IRP(Indianapolis Raceway Park, which is really in Clermont). He's always been an aggresive racer which is pretty common with most drivers from those ranks, especially on the dirt tracks. That's probably where they came to be called "Bull-Rings".
I don't have anything against the guy, he has his own style and it works for him. It's won him races and titles. He also seems to have matured a lot this year.

Oh yeah, and he took time out Sunday night to call Dave Despain on SpeedTV during his Wind Tunnel show. How cool is that?

Where there is Smoke there is fire. This win was awesome! I first saw Tony when I was 9 years old in May of 1996 when he was on the pole for the 500. Watching him win this race at IMS has been the greatest highlight as a Stewart fan. I know what Tony went through growing up because I grew up near IMS and went to the 500 every year and numerous short track races throughout the calendar. It is a dream that most youngsters have, including me, that grow up in Indy.... to race and win at IMS. I am so glad that Tony got to finally fullfill his childhood dream. In my opinion, Tony is the greatest and most versatile driver on the circuit today, and he is also a great people person. I know most people call him a baby or a bully, but if you haven't read his book "True Speed: My Racing Life" then you have no room to talk. Just think if you were in his shoes.... having a conversation with some friends or crew before a race and a bunch of rowdy fans were screaming at you from the fence to sign autographs. Would anyone in their right mind want to give people anything for being rude and interupting someones conversation? Well I'm not going to right a book but I think Tony has every right to speak the truth as he does, and not be criticized by the media or rude and uncaring fans. Anyways... Congrats Tony on the win of a lifetime and Good Luck on the Chase for the Cup! You've been an outstanding role model for the past 10 years.

It absolutely made me p*ssed off when Darrell Waltrip...who was not Mr. Clean Racer when he was an active driver...had the NERVE to criticize Tony for the same d@mn stuff DW did himself..talk about the CAULDRON(DW) calling the kettle black..DW is in no way an impartial color commentator....a lot of NASCAR fans I've met on NASCAR.com think he's an irritating nuisance...Thank God NBC broadcasts the second half of the season!

Tony is far from inarticulate. You bet he speaks his mind...and it annoys the h*ll out of so called 'fans' of racing....I wonder what Tony-haters would think of someone like A.J. Foyt...who IMO is a lot like Tony!!

Tony has done it again..Winning I mean. "Smoke" got the win today at Watkins Glen! He's won both road course races this year,as well as his first win at a restrictor-plate track(Daytona)in the Pepsi 400. AND he's managed not to let things get to him. I think he knows that personal differences with others is distracting....and he wants that second championship,BIGTIME. And it's looking likely that he WILL do so. If not this season then next season.

Well Stewart won agin. Dang! He's on some kind of role. I think he'll cool off though. Mark Martin won 4 straight races in 1993. Bill Elliott won 3 straight races in early 1992. Well my favorite driver Rusty Wallace finshed 6th today so I have to be happy with that. Next wek the Series goes to Michigan International Speedway. I think Rusty's #2 will run great at Michigan. Rusty's always fast at the August Race at Michigan. I don't know about Kurt Busch driving Rusty;s infamous #2 car in 2007. I wanted to see Jamie McMurray in the #2. I like McMurray but he's going to drive the #6 Viagra Car in 2007. I just don't like rooting for somebody who's sponsor is going to be Viagra. Maybe owner Jack Roush can find a new sponsor other than Viagra for McMurray.

I always wished Mark would win so he could talk about the "Stiff" competition, or the "Long" runs he made with his "Viagra" car. Or how "Hard" it was to run up front. Maybe the "Wood" brothers could pick up the Viagra sponsorship.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  ::) :-X

Did anyone here know that Jeff Gordon was not born in Indiana,he was born in Vallejo, California? Not a native Hoosier, people.

Gordon did grow up in Pittsboro though.

Besides Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman is from Indiana. And "Rocketman"Ryan has a degree in Vehicle Structural Engineering from Purdue University.
