Subject: When was the first Mexican Wave?

Seen at large and important stadium sporting occasions, the Mexican Wave is a feature, but when and where did it all start. My guess it did start in Mexico.

The first time I ever saw it was at the 1986 Football World Cup which was held in Mexico, which is how it was given its name...
...tho' I'm not 100% sure if this was the first time it was ever 'performed'...
