Of course.. who could forget England winning the second test in 2005 by two runs.

As you know Philip, I'm not a huge cricket fan by any stretch of the imagination.. but that match was quite wonderful.
The fact that England won it makes it even better.

That match was a one-day game not a full five day match, and it consisted of the squad that needed the practice not the full pledge eleven.  Test Matches are a test of stamina and the tactics to play are different.

It looks like a draw to me for this second Test in Adelaide. Oh, how I rue that dropped catch by Ashley Gilles off Ponting when he was on just 35. Taking that wicket then would have given us a real momentum and chance to square the series.

Anyhow, England have shown in this Test that they're not the hopeless side we saw in Brisbane. What we also saw was Glenn McGrath's obstinate refusal to concede his age or injury. With 0-107 in the first innings and that missed catch from Pietersen in the field (which a younger, fitter man would have taken), it's obvious he should have ruled himself unfit.

The real concern is whether we'll see any life at all in the rest of the Australian pitches. If they're all as docile as Adelaide then we could be in for a boring series (with Australia taking back the Ashes after the win in Brisbane).

Good Lord! England finally win a game of cricket!

(Faints!)

I suppose they'll all be wanting more MBE's for that!  ;)

Coming very soon...let's see if the Rugby team can die on their arses in the Six Nations!

Great result, and a brilliant catch be Jamie Dalrymple.

As I have always said One Day Cricket is a totally different ball game to Test Cricket.

True, but with the difference of spirit and confidence, the non-cricketing observer would think there were two England squads...

Bit like the football team in most cases...

May as well bump this up as the 2007 Cricket World Cup is in full swing, which probably won't mean a jot to most of you!

No fantastic surprises so far result-wise...Australia (the holders), Sri Lanka, Kenya and the West Indies (the hosts) all securing opening wins...

Hopefully England can do the same against NZ shortly...

Sri Lanka beat England by 2 runs, we needed 3 off the last bowl of the game, a boundary (4 or 6) would have done it for us.

With the coverage at 5 in the morning on BBC1 I'm not following the Cricket World Cup with any great love, while instead I am concentrating more on the opening of the 2007 Domestic season, with my home team having won last year's County Championship after one heck of a team display on the last day of the season.

I have to admit, with my second team not in this year's tournament, it all seems a bit nondescript to me.
