After London was bouncing to the thumping beat of Europop, and the sound of beeping horns, as the carnival atmosphere of Le Tour de France came to the streets of the capital for the first time in the cycling race's 104-year history.

Perhaps everyone got lost!

Mind you, I bet starting from there was a bit of a psychological kick in the teeth for the French...

Could've been worse...they could have started from Waterloo!

Tom Boonen sprinted to victory in the sixth stage of the Tour de France after Britain's Bradley Wiggins failed with a brave effort to claim a breakaway win.

Wiggins fell short with a heroic effort after leading the stage from the second kilometre to be reeled in only seven kilometres from the finish.

At one stage, Wiggins had a lead of 18 minutes but riding solo in the heat for so long took its toll.

It left Boonen to snatch victory from Oscar Freire and Erik Zabel.

Italian rider Cristian Moreni has become the second rider in a week to fail a Tour de France doping test.
Moreni's positive test for testosterone was revealed a day after pre-race favourite Alexandre Vinokourov's positive for blood doping.

Moreni, 34, rides alongside Britain's Bradley Wiggins in the Cofidis team and was Italian champion in 2004.

Alberto Contador looks almost certain to be crowned Tour de France winner after Sunday's final stage into Paris.

The Spaniard, 24, leads Cadel Evans by 23 seconds, with sprint bonuses - or an accident - the only way the Australian could claw back the time.

However, the sprinters will also be battling, with Belgian Tom Boonen keen to secure the green jersey.

The final, 146km stage begins in Marcoussis and is expected to finish in a bunch sprint on the Champs-Elysees.
