Subject: Roger Clemens To be announced in The Mitchell report

Written By: ninny on 12/13/07 at 9:29 am

Senate Majority Leader George Mitchell will unveil his report on performance-enhancing drugs in Major League Baseball... the names of nearly five dozen players. Mitchell has called a press conference for 2pm
It has been leaked to ESPN that Roger Clemens name will be mentioned for steroid use. What has baseball come to first Bobby Bonds, now Roger Clemens,is the sport so cut troat that one has to cheat to achieve their goals
Just wondering what everyone thought about this.

Admittedly, it doesn't surprise me that much that Clemens name is in the report.

It's certainly disappointing.

I'm curious to see as to what sort of time scales and information they have regarding his steroid use.

If it isn't disputable then I'm thinking it's time he hangs up his cleats.

They are saying their are about 60 names, and they said quite a few pitchers.  A lot of players will have to wave goodbye to the Hall. Clemens is due to call it a day anyway, this would be a good time to say goodnight.

Yeah, I think Clemens is just the sort of guy to ignore it though. Ya know, I have all the respect in the world for his talent, best pitcher of the last 20 years, no doubt, but one gets the impression that he's a hard headed bastard.

Maybe he will pretend to ignore it like the Cingular commercial  ;D="http://www.youtube.com/v/GEd3pS1jXJ4&rel;D

He is hard headed, they all are to some degree.  I would think that is part of what it takes to excel at anything.  ;)

I just heard that on the radio...awaiting the comments from the teams.

It is inevitable that they will now look to see how many of the 'roided pitchers Bonds/Mcgwire hit off of.

I am praying no more A's players are on there (Mcgwire, Giambi, etc.) My Barry Zito better not be on there - yet, I know he's smarter than that!

I'm hoping Jeter and Mo aren't among those or I'll be traumatized. :(

I had seen Clemens name thrown around a lot as a possible juicer so it's not really surprising.

I really hate this *&^%$ dial-up that I have. I am trying to get the Mitchell report to download. You can go to www.mlb.com and you can download the report as a pdf file.

Adam Piatt used to be on the A's, but is no longer on there. He never looked like the body type of a steroid user.  :(

Petitte and Clemens. Dang!

This morning, CBS and MSNBC broke the story that Albert Pujols was on there.

I swear, I never got so many phone calls in such a short amount of time.

To clarify, Albert is and always has been clean.

I was just looking over that report-not really reading it because there are 409 pages and I'm in the middle of doing 500 other things (as usual).  The only thing I have to say about it is Holy S**t, Batman!!! It seems like half of Major League Baseball is involved. And from what I have gathered, this is all from only ONE supplier. How many other suppliers are out there?

Clemens lawyer issued a statement saying it was not true about Clemens.  He said that the person who named him was just a pissed off employee, and that Clemens was tested negative multiple times(which also can mean nothing).  Before the report came out I was wondering what kind of concrete proof they would offer up beside the word of one person in the locker room.  The problem with the report seems that if one locker room person made the charge it was put out as proof, even the Salem Witch Trials at least added waterboarding to the equation.  Now, I don't doubt some of the  people, but I also think if you are gonna damn someone you should have more proof, and if they could slip someone in out of spite, they could also leave someone out for other unknown reasons.

Andy Petitte's lawyer said the same, that he was innocent, but he had to talk to the players union,ESPN baseball anaylist were saying if he is innocent what would he have to discuss with them.

Because they always discuss everything, "discussing" doesn't mean anything, it is just covering bases(sorry for the pun)  I actually do not have any doubt that the majority of the players were using, but proving it is another thing.

I think there will be a lot of fallout from naming names.  Mitchell admits that there were many names left off, one would have to ask why.

I heard somewhere that Jose Canseco was mad because they didn't mention Alex Rodriguez name.

I think a lot of names will be bandied about, and 99% of it is "he said, he said".

It's going to take Bud Selig years to figure all this out.

Curt the Schill has called for Clemens to give up his Cy Young Awards.  Knowing Schill he probably will hammer away at eaach successive person until he is the one who ends up with them.
