Subject: Questionable Sports?????

Written By: Big Nasty on 05/04/09 at 5:35 pm

SO I was replying to a thread about NASCAR being a real sport, and I started thinking about what other "sports" are questionable.  So I would like to start with a questionable "sport" and then members can debate it. SOmebody else can toss another "sport" out there and we can continue from there.

SO I am wondering about...Curling?

Well, that's at least physical.  It also takes some skill to move the stick and that jammy where they have to go.  I would tend to think it's more of a sport than I cosider racing to be.

It's definitely an interesting sport.  It's one step above chess, which is being lobbied for Olympic inclusion too.

Oh No!  Not the "Fiendish Thingy"!!!

Sorry, when I think curling, I think The Beatles.  Help!!!!

I'll vote, yes it's a sport, but I don't understand it at all.    (after all, I'm the lone Nascar fan around here)  :)

You are not alone, I rarely miss a race and usually attend one, if not both, Dover Races.  ;)

How about Bass Fishing, ESPN covers bass fishing tournaments and by definition it's a sport, but is it really?

I always think of fishing as more of a hobby, but I do know that they have tournaments, so if Nascar is a sport, so is fishing.  ;)

Cool!  2 Nascar fans here!  :)

Synchronized swimming. is that a sport?

If Chess is a sport, why not the game TWISTER?. At least you need athletic ability for that.

Haven't you heard?  Synchronized swimming was dumped and Twister was added to the 2012 Summer Olympics!  ;D

Nothing worse than "alleged" blood doping from Twister Athletes.

I can see the news now:

The Bulgarian Twister team has been disqualified for illegal use of steroids.

"No one can twist and bend like that without using steroids!  It's just not humanly possible!!!"

" I knew they were up to something...they just seemed to get too much joy out of knocking others off the mat.  It's like they were maniacs!  Red!  Yellow!  Blue!!  It must have been drugs! "

Charges are pending and the team may be banned from Twister for life.

;D

Imagine all the wardrobe malfunctions from playing Twister.

And watch out for those Twister Judges...then can be bought.
And those "over-the-counter" performance enhancing drugs they use to play Chess. I'd ban that sport as well.

Make that three NASCAR fans.  ;)

Poker is interesting, and I suppose a sport, but the people who play it are not atheletes.

Women's tennis isn't a sport - it's more soft core porn.  If you don't believe me, turn away from the TV and just listen to it.  ;D

Someone mentioned Golf, as much as I hate it--it also is a sport, and it also seems the very best of the best are well proportioned. . and groomed.  . .when ESPN labeled Poker a friggin sport, I started wandering why Dodgeball didn't have a league. . .apparently I wasn't the only one because they made a whole comedy movie about it. .

Poker, and any games involving gambling, are NOT sports by any means. They don't involve any athletic activity; the players just sit around at the table.

Is WWE/TNA wrestling a sport?

Ah, Wrestling.... big muscle-y, manly men in little teeny outfits throwing each other around.  A sport?  Sure.  Entertaining?  Sometimes!  ;)

On Mother's Day Matthew has promised to let me win the World Championship in Connect 4.  I really better work out first!  :D
