Subject: Paralympics 2010

This won't get as much coverage as it's much more famous sibling, but I'll try to keep you updated. :) The city has somewhat returned to normal over the past two weeks, but I expect that a plethora of people who are Olympic-hungover will be excited that there's more reason to celebrate.

I wish the best of luck to all Paralympians competing here. But more to Team Canada, of course!  8) :D Here's hoping records are smashed like they were in the Olympics.

Britain will have a curling team and seven skiers going (6 sit-skiers and 1 visually impaired)

I notice we'll only be sending one sit-skier. Not an awful lot, but still more than the last time (no athletes at all in 2006).

And the Paralympics have officially started! :D I was at the Opening Ceremony, and it was quite brilliant! :) Very much worth my $30!

I'll try to keep you guys updated, but with my school break being over, I won't be as quick as I'd like to be.

I am watching the opening ceremonies on tv right now!
I am so thankful to be able to see them on the Canadian channel provided!
(Of course, NBC doesn't see fit to provide any coverage whatsoever! 8-P

First up in my coverage is Canada vs. Italy in Sledge Hockey!

The top ten countries are (as I type this):

1. Russia = 15 (6G, 6S, 3B)
2. Ukraine = 7 (2G, 2S, 3B)
3. Canada = 6 (2G, 3S, 1B)
4. Germany = 5 (3G, 2S)
5. Belarus = 4 (1G, 4B)
6. Austria = 3 (2G, 1B)
7. Norway = 2 (2S)
7. United States = 2 (1S, 1B)
7. Australia = 2 (2B)
7. Italy = 2 (2B)

I'm pleased as punch with Canada doing really well right now. But I'm surprised at some of these countries being big contenders at the Paralympics, especially Ukraine. Maybe it's because I've never been interested in these Games as I do now.

And so it ended on Sunday. :( Goodbye world, it was fun while it lasted. :) Here's the final standings:

1. Russia: 38 (12, 16, 10)
2. Germany: 24 (13, 5, 6)
3. Canada: 19 (10, 5, 4)
4. Ukraine: 19 (5, 8, 6)
5. United States: 13 (4, 5, 4)

Excellent job to all countries! We'll see you in four years for the next Winter Paralympics in Sochi! In the meantime, we can wait less than two years for the London Summer Paralympics in 2012! :)
