Subject: Olympics of the 2020s

Written By: exodus08 on 07/31/17 at 2:20 pm

Tokyo Summer '20
Beijing Winter '22
Paris Summer '24
Winter '26 will be announced in 2019
Los Angeles Summer '28

I like these host cities of the 20s. Since Sochi Winter '14 & Rio Summer '16 both are third world cities and sucked. It was  announced today that Paris will be hosting the 2024 Summer Olympics and Los Angeles will be hosting the 2028 Summer Olympics.

Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016 did not suck.

Also, I originally wanted LA to host the 2024 Summer Games because it would be exactly 40 years after Los Angeles hosted the 1984 Summer Olympic Games. However, this decision is fine and I have no problem with it.

I'm kind of perplexed that Beijing is hosting the 2022 Winter Olympic Games but...eh, it's already decided :-\\.

They favored Paris for the 2024 summer Olympics  because it would be 100 years since they last hosted an Olympics. Norway was supposed to get the 2022 Winter Olympics but  they backed out.

Do you mean 40?

Oh...yes, my mistake :P.

They were originally favoring LA but then LA's Mayor Eric Garcetti decided that in order to be 100% certain that Trump wouldn't be in office to open the 2024 Olympics....why not just host the 2028 Summer Olympics ;D. It's petty but...can you blame him? :P.

Norway was supposed to get the 2022 Winter Olympics but  they backed out.

Oh...that makes sense. However, why Beijing? I've known of this decision for like a year but still :-\\.

I thought 2014 Sochi was a bad decision but that hockey game was w o w, it saved the entire thing. 2016 Rio was pretty lame.

2010 Vancouver and 2012 London were awesome.

2010 and 2014 World Cup in South Africa and Brazil were great too. 2014 Brazil was one of my favourite sports events ever, honestly, up there with 2006 World Cup in Germany and 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Now it's going to be Russia in 2018, and Qatar in 2022. That is headed for a complete train wreck.

Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 will be GOAT. Hyped for those. Beijing might be a miss, they better hope there aren't any warm spells like in Sochi.

How was Rio 2016 lame? ???

The 2014 World Cup was great. However, the 2010 World Cup was just OK, it certainly wasn't great. Anyways...why are you talking about World Cups? This is about the Olympics ;D

Los Angeles 2028 will be 32 years from Atlanta 1996. The next time it'll be held in the U.S.

1996, or the 90's in general, was a special decade for Atlanta sports that I'll never get to see again the rest of my lifetime  :-\\

Various problems like piss in the pools, or the NBA not being allowed to play basketball and other things.

IDK. The World Cup is usually a bigger sensation here. ;D

The corruption of the Brazilian government and poor quality of the Olympic village and other things is bad and deserve to be talked about but the Rio 2016 games themselves were FANTASTIC.

Also, what do you mean by "the NBA not being allowed to play basketball"? ??? NBA players were allowed to play in Rio 2016.

Really? In Canada? I thought that Americans and Canadians were unified in our not so high interest in soccer ;D.

That's for the Summer Games. The US hosted the Olympics (albeit, the Winter Olympics) in 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah. So...technically it's going to be 26 years since the last time the U.S. hosted an Olympics. It's obviously still a long time but Olympics are costly to host and also you got to spread the Olympics around different countries.

Yeah, you're right.

The Atlanta Braves from 1991 to 2005 were one of the most successful franchises in the MLB, winning 14 division titles consecutively which was unprecedented. Also, the Braves won the 1995 World Series (they could have won more but lost to my Yankees...twice ;)).

The Atlanta Falcons had a great 1998 season. They had a 14-2 record, won the NFC West and went to Super Bowl XXXIII (held on January 31, 1999). However, they lost Super Bowl XXXIII to the Denver Broncos, 34-19.

There have been 9 Olympics (5 Summer and 4 Winter), 4 World Cups and 18 Super Bowls in my lifetime :o.

The Olympic Games I've have watched are Beijing 2008, Vancouver 2010, London 2012, Sochi 2014, Rio 2016.

The World Cups I've watched are South Africa 2010 and Brazil 2014. I'm not sure if I watched South Korea/Japan 2002 and Germany 2006.

I've watched every single Super Bowl since Super Bowl XL in 2006.

How was it awful? ???

I seriously don't get where you guys thought it was lame and awful. I know that its an opinion but I thought that most people find it to be OK to good. Rio 2016 wasn't the best Olympics that I've watched but it wasn't bad...IMO.

Sorry, I remembered wrong. Most the NBA players withdrew to focus on the NBA. Or that might have been Canada's team only. All I remember is everyone hitching and saying they weren't gonna watch it anymore because of that.

There are a lot of European immigrants here. When I lived downtown I lived next to Greektown, and there were tons of Italians, Dutch people, Portuguese, Spaniards and Koreans too.  My school turned into a war zone in 2006 and 2010. Right now the town I live in has a lot of Italians. I was with my mom at the mall, and when Italy scored a goal in their match against England, every other person in the mall was cheering. My mom got scared and thought there was a shooting or something. I couldn't stop laughing ;D

Yeah the world cup is a huge deal here in Canada although it may be just the folks I hang around with. But the old electronics store I worked at showed the world cup games on all the TV screens every day, so I do still think people care about it here. Not as much as hockey of course but still popular.

The Tokyo 2020 Paralympics will feature more female athletes than any previous Games, the International Paralympic Committee has announced.

London 12 and Rio 16 were really bored for me, as compared with Beijing 2008 which was the best thing that I’ve seen in organization and I hope Tokyo 20 reaches that level and influence the rest of the world with their futuristic  technology (5G, 8K, robots, etc.)

It was confirmed a few months ago that Paris will be hosting the 2024 Summer Olympics and Los Angeles will be hosting the 2028 Summer Olympics.

I wanted Paris and LA to be switched but Trump had to get elected and ruin everything...like he always does :(.

Beijing 2008 was the first Olympics I ever watched and it was AMAZING!
