Subject: North America will host the 2026 World Cup

North America (United States-Canada-Mexico) will host the 2026 World Cup!

I think that this is going to be great. The last (and first) time that the US hosted a World Cup was in 1994. Also, the last time Mexico hosted a World Cup was in 1986. Canada has never hosted a World Cup (however, Canada hosted the Women's World Cup in 2015).

The U.S. did not qualify for the current 2018 World Cup in Russia. However, the US will try to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and have automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup due to hosting the event.

Additionally, no matter what happens in the 2020 Presidential election, Donald Trump will not be President of the U.S. in 2026. His last day in office if he gets re-elected would be on January 20, 2025.

This year's that starts tomorrow has the usual 32 teams, having 48 will be interesting, giving more chance for lesser stronger national teams.

Yes, so what's the problem?

In America, we call the sport "soccer" but doesn't have anything to do with FIFA. FIFA is FIFA.

I kind of think that the World Cup would be better off if it was hosted in smaller countries (areawise). Not that I mind the US, Canada, and Mexico hosting it or anything like that, it just seems like there would be an awful lot of traveling involved.  :o

Well, the World Cup was already held in the U.S. in 1994 and that was a HUGE success.

Also, the previous World Cup was held in a large country (Brazil in 2014) and that WC was a success in terms of logistics and traveling.

Additionally, the only other bid for 2026 was Morocco and Morocco doesn't have the infrastructure to hold a World Cup. North America already has the venues.

Finally, the 2002 World Cup was held in 2 countries (South Korea and Japan) and there were no traveling problems. The 2015 Women's World Cup was held in Canada and that did very well.

So you don't have to worry about traveling and logistics.

1996 - The 100th Olympics in the U.S. in Atlanta, Georgia

30 years later

2026 - U.S. World Cup (could possibly have a location in Atlanta)

The alignment! The cycle/trend is REAL!

Mexico last hosted the World Cup in 1986. Now, they will host 10 games of the World Cup 40 years later in 2026.

So Los Angeles will have a great challenge in the next decade because they will host the Olympics in 2028 and at least 1 match in FIFA WC 2026 :o
