Subject: Goals...

Written By: Davester on 02/01/09 at 12:11 am

Are you a goal oriented person?  The very term brings to mind a carpeted boardroom with a large, heavy wooden table in the center and swivel chairs all around, as well as other clichés like "team player", "go-getter", "attention to detail", "achiever", "multi tasker"...

Is there not something noble about setting and working towards goals and something triumphant when the goals are realized.  Have you reached yours?  Are you close..?

I am not even anywhere near obtaining or meeting my goals. Sometimes I feel like I just don't know how. :-\\

A comfortable(not extravagant) retirement.  That is about it.  To be able to read books, see a movie, walk in a safe neighborhood, be healthy, and know my youngone will be taken care of when I am gone.  There are forces at work that have setback that vision, but hopefully all is not lost.

I never could seem to make goals.  I don't want much of anything.

I had two goals a long time ago-to be rich & to be my own boss.  ;D ;D ;D  Actually, I once told my dad that I was working on a plan so I would never have to work again in my life. He told me that it was just a pipe dream. Well, I don't have to work. The last time I had to get dress and go to some place to do a job was when I was subbing and that was 1998. So, I have reach that goal.

Now, if I can only lose some weight.  :-\\

My grandma used to say about me: "We never have to worry about Isabel 'cause that girl will do everything she sets her mind to", when you have someone believing in you like this you can't help but fell compelled to fight harder, to make those words be true.
I haven't achieved everything i thought i would, but i've done a lot of the things i always wanted to do.
And one thing i'm certain i've been very lucky most of my life but i also worked for that good luck.

I know some people like that - Set goals, achieve them, set another, &etc.  Everything's pre-planned, "this is where I want to be, this is how I'm going to get there...".  I was never like that.  I don't set goals, I take opportunities.  Priorities change, circumstances change.  At times what looked promising yesterday doesn't look so good today...

A large part of it is that I don't closely associate myself with my job.  It's just the game I play to get a piece of paper with some numbers on it.  If you're a fireman, you're a fireman 24/7.  If you're a doctor, you're a "doctor".  If you're a police officer you're on-duty every day of the year.  It's the persona or role you've taken on.  Folks link their goals to their careers which afford them their lifestyle of choice, I'm guessing...

Just to get through life with my sanity intact.

Losing weight wouldn't hurt, either.

I don't see it like that,my goals are what i want to do...of course they change,i abandoned several but i know that nothing is going to fall on my lap if i don't do something.
You make your own opportunities, plans do fall through and you have set backs but making plans is sometimes the best part. Imagine what will happen, envision what you want. Not in a creepy way like all those self-help books but having something to lift up your spirits when the present times are so difficult.

Oh i agree with you. Of all the jobs i had none really made me,my goals were never really about work. When i was younger i wanted to be a professional dancer but once i realised what professional meant i knew that wasn't for me. As much as i love dancing, i never wanted to start hating it 'cause it would be a job.
People talk a lot about dream jobs and loving what you do but from my experience when something you love becomes your job then you stop loving it as much. It's a task you have to do so you can pay the bills at the end of the month, when it should be something you do as an outlet for all the frustrations in your life.

I've always had them, but didn't always know what to do to make them happen. There's also a difference between short and long-term goals (maybe 5 years or more), so here's my short term ones for now:

-Get another job (hopefully a good one, like in an office, but right now I'll take anything since I need money)
-Visit Pennsylvania and move out there soon after
-Finish school out there in PA
-Work on a career once that's over (my passion is acting, writing and anything creative)
-Have a great relationship and maybe have kids in about 3-5 years :)
