Subject: Online memorial websites

What is the general concensus for online memorial websites? Are they deemed hokey? A danger to one's privacy? A nice idea? Any opinions are gladly appreciated.
I lost my grandma this morning, and even though she was elderly and we knew her time to go would be soon, it never seems to be enough time. I spend the majority of my life online, and I was thinking about creating an online memorial webpage for her. I have so many cool (to me anyway) pictures of her and I thought she was an extraordinary woman (even if only to her family.) I am hesitant because A.) I've never done something like that before. B.) Perhaps privacy issues should be considered C.) The place where I usually put up my webpages for free (Geocities) has closed now (or at least it's closed it's free access.)
I could probably treat it as a genealogy project (another interest of mine) and put it up at Rootsweb.com for free.
Anybody care to weigh in with an opinion? Should I just make a collage of my favorite photos offline and just be happy with that?

Find A Grave
I have two up, one for my Grandmother and one for my Grandfather. They are pretty easy to do, and they're free. I don't think they are hokey at all. :)
As far as privacy, with Find A Grave, you can put what you want, and you're the only one to edit it. Other people can leave little notes or cyber flowers, but you can edit as you see fit.
*ETA* And they don't have to have a physical burial plot to be on here. My grandmother was cremated, and they give you that option when you're filling out the info.

Oh yeah, and it's nothing super fancy.
Now if you want to do a bit more fancy, you can probably look at Blogspot and just create a memorial with that. It is a blogging site, but I'm sure you can have it up as a memorial.

Thanks Jess. I've used Find a grave before. I'd forgotten about it. I have a page up for my great-great grandfather. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=drummond&GSfn=montraville&GSbyrel=in&GSdyrel=in&GSob=n&GRid=18513057&
That's a wonderful idea.

I am so sorry Patty. ((((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))).
When I lost my grandmother & sister, I was grieving big time. I searched for some on-line support and the best place I found support was right here at the inthe00s. So I created the Memorial Thread. Please know that you are not alone. We will give you all the support you want/need. That is what everyone here did for me when I was having a hard time.
