I have amazing friends both online and in the  real world!

There are so many wonderful people in my life but I want to say a word about my amazing sisters. Two of them have put their lives on hold for our father and now they are doing it for our mother. I am in total awe of them and if I can be just a little bit like them, I would consider myself lucky.

Hey ... I once started the same thread. Then, I got depressed and stopped posting in it!  ;)

Okay ... something positive.  I finally got a permanent position after being made redundant in April 2011.  :)  This is good news for my whole family as job stability is something we don't have to worry about for now.

I'm just loving life! And I adore everyone in it. My parents are my angels on earth, and I love my family because they are simple and fun and have always been there for me, just the way a family should be!

I snipped off my long locks recently to a shoulder length style and I'm super happy about it! After having long hair for so long it's a nice change so, I'm loving my hair too! hehe.

Other than family and a happy home, I am closing in on retirement eligibility, my FU date is in 5 years. That
and I may even take a vacation this year, I haven't had one in over 10 years I think it's about time.

I am finally getting to see the "Glee" movie.  In fact, watching it now.  I wanted to see it since it was out in the theaters, but I knew hubby would not enjoy it.  So, I am watching it now since he is helping his friend move his business tonight.

Dear Princess Celestia,

This thread changed my life. I defy anyone to feel bad while singing along to this, especially in the context of the episode in which it's embedded.  (Seriously, if you have five minutes, just let it keep rolling after the song.)

James did say a little while ago that he wanted to learn a little more about cooking.  Tonight we were just having pasta and meatballs with a small side salad.  I got him to prepare the salad.

In theory the kids are supposed to cook one meal over the weekend (their suggestion).  In practice they help one or other of us cook part of the meal and then wander off to watch tv!

When all is said and done I walked 30 miles (out of 39)

But if you include the time I walked around the closing ceremonies, back to my car, at the store after and then from where I park to the house probably closer to 32 - 32.5.

30 miles is a great distance to walk. back in my younger days I once walked a 20 mile sponsored walk and that took all day, and I did feel the better for it, plus the money gained through the sponsorship, but the thing I enjoyed the most was the conversation we all had while walking. By the way, no celebs for me that day.

In the midst of a bad work week something awesome happened.

I managed to impress the coroner by confirming the identity of the body that washed up on the beach before he could.

This is significant because it showed I thought outside the box and used resources he never thought of. I made calls without prompting to try and get info from the subject's hometown police dept.

I also made our dept look good because we are typically thought of as just "university" police ie less than the other agencies in town....they think we are slightly better than armed security guards when the truth is our officers have received the exact same rigorous training and are held to the same standards...and in some cases - because we have more money and our chief is an advocate of training our officers are better trained because they are sent to more classes throughout their career...

anyway- despite all I mentioned above - sometimes my guys are looked down upon but on Friday I got them to be seen positively...and the coroner's response impressed my captain because he generally takes for granted all the extra hoops I jump thru to make calls go smoother for an officer....seeing someone else appreciate it reminded him of how rare it is....and how good I am at what I do!  8)

Hubby called to check in with me right before an important meeting he is attending today.  Just wanted to see how I was doing.

In other positive news, I am working through an enormous mountain of dirty laundry.  It was getting bad, almost had to start wearing the formal dress clothes since everything else needed washed.  Finally finding the energy to do something... anything.

Me and my nephew are talking normally again, like we did years ago. I think I posted a few weeks or months ago that for 3 months we have been talking normally. But now we are back to normal fully. I think he's forgiven me for my exploding my temper due my depression/anxiety. And I've forgiven him for his adolescent stubbornness. It's also partly because of his personality. He's not the type of person that feels comfortable showing emotion or having someone show too much emotion. Everyone is different. But I also think it was partly because he was (and still is) an adolescent himself. I remember my hardheadedness when I was 15,16,17,etc, etc.

I saw something a second ago that really warmed my heart. A friend of mine on facebook posted a link about all these bodybuilders, and one in particular caught my attention:

http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/images/2013/nickscott_image1.jpg
His name is Nick Scott and he's a wheelchair bodybuilder.
I wrote this in response to the link about Nick:

The fellow in the wheelchair too my breath away. He's positively sensational and his picture should be everywhere for "handicapable" people to see anything is possible no matter thier "limitations".

It really did lighten my heart to see him and when I think how he could be an inspiration to so many other people in wheelchairs or on crutches, especially children, I wish I could just print his photo and plaster it all over the place.  :)

Can a parapeligic still work his legs? I mean I know he can't feel them, but is it still possible to work and build them? (I should know this, I lived with a paralyzed grandmother for 3 years.)

On a nicer note: Evan and I are on again for Sunday afternoon.  :) We were supposed to go out Friday night, but he got called into the hospital. (You know people cut up on the weekends, and more hands were needed in the ER.) I don't mind, his job is about helping those in need.  :) And he apologized so hard, you'd have thought he was a Doctor without Borders shipping out instead of a male nurse. LOL.

I'm having a banner day today. I just weighed myself on a whim and see that I've lost 5 more pounds. Gosh, this weight-loss thing is coming so easily to me now. That's a blessing. I know how some people struggle with it and I thank God, it's now coming easier to me. I can finally slip into those size 10 jeans I bought as a wish garment.
It's been hard, but I finally, really feel good about myself and my appearance.
I can wear the cute clothes I used to covet and I have a gorgeous guy like Evan in my life.

I feel good.  :)

I have been corresponding back and forth with a young woman online, and she got my attention because she kept writing negative things about herself, like #TeamAverageLooking and things like that. I wrote to her explaining she was beautiful even though I had never seen her picture, because she seemed nice, even if she was down on herself. It made me sad a bit because she said no one had told her she was beautiful before. And it really made me sad. Because I just wondered, hadn't her mom or dad at least said that to her? It broke my heart and I did my best to lift her spirits.  But she thanked me for being her friend and being nice to her.

That made me happy. But I'll keep encouraging her. All some folks need is a little push and a kind word.  :)

I was so incredibly tired this morning, I've been sick lately with a few sleepless nights from the troubles, and I was getting breakfast this morning and I hadn't seen Evan cause he's been working double shifts for a trip we plan to make next month. And I thought I looked a fright, and a nice man beside me complimented me.
(I had to turn down his offer for dinner, for obvious reasons, but he was kind.)
It's amazing how a kind word will make you feel better.  :)

My nephew, who I have spoken about here before, who is a venomous brat, seems to be getting some divine punishment.

His father hasn't spoken to him in months, almost a year. Giving his son the cold shoulder. Now, you all know about my probs with the family.

Seems to me, that karma isn't just eyeing me, it's zooming in on him too. He's not a little kid, he's now 20 1/2 years old, 21 in November.

The way his father is being icy to him reminds me of the way he has been icy to me. And I know that it's bothering him. I'm usually very forgiving, but some peeps have taken me at my weak point, when I was ill, and kicked me when I was down. Time for things to go MY way for once. Thank you, God, or universe, or whatever.

Plus, it seems that me and my parents have started off on a clean slate, we just haven't talked about 'starting over' until this June. It's nice to have some positivity in our house for the first time, in like 8 years.  :)

I made a list of 90 things that are good about me, and good things that have happened to me in my 27 years of life. And it brang my positivity/optimism up. I always thought things like this was a bunch of clichéd, polly-Anna, bull crap. Turns out it's true. I'm more fortunate than I thought, and have more than I believed.

Good job.  :)

Too bad, I can make 2 million 'glad game' things, but I still need to get out from my parents, my father has been treating me better, but my mother is utterly insufferable. Even my father can't be trusted 100%. I'm looking for a job right now, and getting the heck out as fast as I can.

I first need to work on my phone interviewing skills. They were dreadful. They're better now. I first need to get my interviewing skills sharpened first, Then a job. Then get an apartment.

But you're not completely wrong, I am indirectly looking for an apartment all to myself!  :)

My interviewing skills used to be dreadful at first, but after developing them and going to them on a semi-regular basis these past two years, I feel much better about them! This also applies to interviewing over the phone; I could do one without too much trouble. :)

What I don't like about Old Spice/Axe is that it has a strong "aqua"/chemical odour. Dove smells more like clean laundry, and that's the smell I like. :D

Nothing too positive, or new. But I just realized a lot of the things during my teens weren't my fault. That's a lot of weight off my shoulders. But it doesn't excuse those things, it just explains them.

I still have a long road ahead, but it's better here than 'all the way back there.' I could be sad, but I'm more celebratory and bright than I thought I would be. But I am a little worn out by years of mental fighting. Oh well.

A friend told me about an app called "Be My Eyes", and I have downloaded it, volunteered, and already had my first call. It's an app that connects folks that are blind, or low vision at any time anywhere in the world, and will connect them with someone that speaks their language, for any sort of task that requires sighted assistance. It could be for helping when they are shopping, or explaining an event that is happening-anything. The short video that I watched explained that for those that need assistance, they maybe don't want to call their friends because it might be late at night, or they don't necessarily always want to rely on their friends or family to help. Or they want to maintain their dignity- all good reasons that I understand completely. The sighted volunteer receives a push notification that someone is in need of assistance, you connect and then help.

I installed it last night and my first call just a bit ago was to assist a gentleman with a pill that he had dropped on his counter. It had rolled partially under a towel. It was short, simple and I was glad to help.  :) :)

Maybe I should look for that. I can totally relate to that guy who dropped that pill. For the most part I don't even think about my vision impairment-until I drop something and it basically goes into a black hole. I KNOW it is there somewhere. Carlos also forgets about my vision impairment until he hands me something I totally ignore him-then he said, "Here," and it takes me a few seconds to find his hand to get what he is handing me.

In case you-or anyone else don't know-I am legally blind. http://www.inthe00s.com/index.php?topic=39241.0

I had never thought in my wildest nightmares that I would be nostalgic for the 2000s, but spending a couple of days in my teenage hometown of downtown Toronto/East York managed to do the trick. Even though I'm probably happier in my quiet suburb 40 km away than I ever was while living there, something about the big city always draws me in and leaves me starry-eyed.

It's the romance of an old streetcar chiming it's bell down a narrow street of Victorian row homes wrapped in autumn-red ivy that inspires creativity. It's the electricness of the sky-high towers and neon signs that scream out opportunity and radiate energy. It's the heartbeat of the business suits, the ethnic restaurants, and the bicycles parked on top of each other that keep hard work and dedication alive.

You can walk through a wide boulevard of rich autumn trees, and you'd swear you saw all the colours of the spectrum there. You can hear the cacophony of a hundred languages being spoken all at once on a restaurant patio, each with their own story to tell. You can feel the freezing yet invigorating winds, and then smell the cold, crisp air before the autumn snow starts to fall on a late October day. The way the city overwhelms each of the senses is exciting and exhausting. But even amid all this chaos, the people of this city still manage to be so orderly and law-abiding. It's our home, it's our community; we won't make a mess of it!  8)

Each street has its own memories for me. It's like a large labyrinth, but I've been to almost every dead-end there is. Not all the memories are positive of course, like I said, I never thought I'd be nostalgic for it, but I've lived long enough to have a treasure trove of positive memories too. It's funny how over time, the brain biases itself towards positive memories over negative ones. I heard it's something to do with keeping up self-esteem. Well, I'll take it, I think we could all use more of that :P

Congrats. We are in the process of closing on our house that we have been trying to sell for about 5 years now. Unfortunately, we are selling it less than what we owe on it but after it closes, we won't have to pay for insurance, taxes, heating, taxes, other expenses, taxes.  Oh, did I mention taxes?

We recently had some activity concerning our Puerto Rican house. Hopefully, that one will be sold soon, too. We don't owe anything on that house but we probably won't get what we invested in it. Oh well.

So, as I mentioned on at least one other thread, we're gonna get a pool installed in our backyard... and while it's going to be a major expense, it'll be a really good thing once it's completed, because it'll be another place we can get some exercise. :) The digging hasn't started yet, but it should get started sometime this month, and the whole project will be completed at or near the end of September.

I've been feeling down on and off because I'm always fighting with self esteem trouble. I tend to worry friends don't want to be my friend anymore when they get distant, but apparently things are cool between me and them so that's one thing.

I'm trying to focus on counting my blessings. I've been getting used to a  new job this past year. I transferred departments and work by myself now, but I'm told to keep up the good work and I'm also told someone said the locker rooms have been cleaner since I started. I won an award for excellence or good work ethic this past fall at the awards dinner they hold every so often so those things make me feel better about myself. I hope it continues to go alright.

I am also trying get out of the house so I signed up for some boxing lessons just to try something new, plus fitness is important. I'll see how this goes.

I also made a new friend from work, but never got to spend time with him as he is moving across the country this week. If he flies back every few months I'm hoping we can get together.

HAPPY. I'm alive. I'm a woman. I'm healthy. I sing. And I have over 2,000 listeners on Spotify!!

Meeting with new people in my life! I'm so happy right now!! And if previous people don't appreciate me, there are more ducks in the lake. Lovin life, and singing!

Those are definitely good things to be proud of! O0

I went walking yesterday and I noticed that I had lost some of my forward momentum so then I went for a walk today and I was able to walk around the block and I regained the forward momentum that I lost when I didn't go for a walk on Saturday.  All and all it was a great day!

I've been talking to my mother about how when this entire COVID thing is finally over I would like to see the members of Second City Toronto who have stars on Canada's Walk Of Fame.  Eugene Levy, who got his star in 2006, Catherine O'Hara, who got her star in 2007, and Andrea Martin; who got her star in 2018.  SCTV also got a star on the walk of fame in 2002 but unfortunately, Catherine and Eugene were either not invited to that induction ceremony or they didn't know about it and weren't asked if they wanted to come.
I think that Second City was a very important part of how Catherine and Eugene started in comedy in the first place.  Catherine did drunk scene pretty well and well, nobody does deadpan and nerdy characters like Eugene Levy does.

My positive thing is that I finally have a set schedule at work and I’m finally full time!

My hours were almost always the same for a few years till a bunch of work changes happened that screwed me over. I switched departments and it helped but now months later I finally have a set one again and this time my days off are the same every week too. It’s also the first time in over 6 years I am full time. You see, I allowed myself to get fired from my old store and I still regret it. When I came back to the company, in a new store, only part time hours were available. Now 4 years later I finally have full time. When I was overnights I had a set schedule but was still not full time. And that’s another thing, I miss overnights (that my particular store got rid of). I’ve read some old posts I made and oh boy I regret the way I talked about it cause looking back it was a great shift for me. Now with working early I have customers but better than it could be lol. I can try to transfer to a store with overnights for me someday! But for now, despite all the stress inducing crap the company puts us through, I’m just glad I have set hours and days off again. 4 AM - 1 PM Wednesdays through Sundays!

I'm going through sleep therapy and it's making me quite miserable.

For the first week I was only allowed to sleep 4-5 hours (and I was still waking up earlier than my alarm).

Surprisingly that wasn't even the most difficult part. I still felt alert despite having slept only 3 hours. I've ramped up to 7 hours now, but it's very low quality sleep. Even when I'm sleeping I still feel like my brain is wired and thinking, not truly sleeping. And all day I feel zero energy and easily irritable.  :-\\

The good news is that my morning insomnia seems to have been vanquished: I wake up with my morning alarm. Still some work to do though, apparently the misery lasts about 3-6 weeks and I'm only 1 week through.

I had to get off this sleep therapy programme for a few months, but I restarted at the end of March.

Starting off, I was only allowed to lay in bed for 5.5 hours a day. With my insomnia it meant I was getting closer to 4 to 5 hours of sleep a day, and it was one of the most miserable things I've done to myself. Soon enough though I was so exhausted that I was managing to sleep the whole 5.5 hours without waking up in the middle of the night.

From there I bumped my time in bed to 5.75 hours, and added 15 minutes each time I "mastered" each step, which involved soundly sleeping through the night without or with little insomnia for most the week.

Today I'm happy to say I've managed to "master" sleeping 7 hours in bed without insomnia! A huge part of me doubted I could make it this far, but I'm so happy I stuck through.

7 hours still seems to make me sleepy so I am bumping it to 7.25, but I no longer consider myself an insomniac. :)

The programme involved a lot of other bits. I would say sleep restriction wasn't even the most important. I notice a particularly egregious thought right in my original post: "even when I'm sleeping my brain feels wired" - insomniacs are notorious for confusing light sleep with no sleep! Fixing negative beliefs about sleep such as this was the most important part for me. Now I don't dread going to bed.

Similarly, I have finally become full time at my work, after 5+ years of being part time!

This was due to our Admin Assistant leaving after only 16 months with the company. And I have been learning to do some of his tasks. In mid-April he officially left, and then I began a 5-week trial as a full-time employee so that I could learn the tasks. I seemed to pick up fairly well on them. And then last week I was officially made full time (as noted on the May monthly thread).

I don't truly have insomnia, but I do get hit with insomnia symptoms every few months. I don't have them anymore, for now, but they last came back a few days ago. I remember they were really bad in late February-early March. That time period, I was one hormonal wreck who could barely sleep. Even the lamest and tamest of sexual innuendos just set me off, such as, ''Get down, get down, and move it all around.''  ;D https://www.psypost.org/2016/11/study-finds-link-poor-sleep-quality-increased-sexual-arousal-women-46040 Also, I see what you mean about light sleep. I would sometimes feel bad about only having microsleeps for hours in a row, now I know that it's still sleep.

Why Do Women Want "Fairy Tale Weddings"?
How Disney's princes and princesses have shaped our sex roles

www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/fulfillment-any-age/201411/why-do-women-want-fairy-tale-weddings

Excerpts:

The stereotypical Disney heroine’s story ends in a fairy tale wedding. Whether it’s Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty, her dress sparkles as she captivates not only her prince but millions of little girls captivated by those sparkles. A column in the New York Times tells us to “Blame the Princess” for women’s preoccupation with finding the perfect wedding dress. Abby Ellin, the author, notes that “Many women still dream, feverishly, about their wedding, even those with no groom or boyfriend in sight.” According to Ellin, it’s the white gown, and not the marriage, that figures prominently in those dreams.

By the way, is this the same guy that proposed to you a few months ago, at the same time you had the date scheduled with Charlie Puth, when you said you were getting married "in three years", and then cancelled the whole thing (and cancelled Charlie Puth too)? Or is this a different guy? You certainly have a lot of suitors. If this is a new guy it's awfully sudden.

This is a surprisingly good answer. It makes no apologies and has no presuppositions. Many women, when asked why they want a so-called "fairy tale wedding" go into all kinds of gobbledygook about "it must be a perfect day" and "I deserve this" and "it's my day", blah, blah, blee. It always comes across as so selfish and so brainwashed. They didn't invent the marketing term "bridezilla" for nothing. Your answer just states that it's the divine right of women.

One thing I never got is this bit that the wedding is "the happiest day of a woman's life". Really? What about the rest of the marriage? She's already had "the happiest day of her life", so is is all downhill from there? And what if, God forbid, the couple gets divorced one day and the woman marries again and enters into a fantastic marriage? Is the second wedding the SECOND happiest day of her life, or does the first happiest day get demoted to make way for the second wedding? This whole "happiest day" concept has more holes in it than swiss cheese. Best to not worry to much about having a "fairy tale" perfect wedding and concentrate on making a good marriage. So what if it rains or if the dress doesn't fit right or something. It will give the couple something to look back and laugh about in years to come.

I can't speak for all women but I can speak for myself. My first marriage, I didn't have much of a wedding (we got married in front of a judge-and our witnesses were both friends of his.) Not exactly the happiest day of my life and the marriage was even worse.

For my second marriage, in my eyes, I did have a "fairy tale" wedding-I was marrying the Love of my Life, most of my family and friends were there. Everyone had a great time. I was disappointed that my dress-which I had made, didn't fit me like it was made for me-which it was but that was because I hired the wrong seamstress. I was also disappointed that a few people couldn't attend-including one of my sisters and her daughters. My grandmother couldn't attend because she couldn't travel but she did watch the wedding at my sister (who didn't attend) via her computer thanks to my computer guru brother (days before Skype or Zoom). Even though they couldn't attend, they were still there. I often watch the videos of both the ceremony and the reception. We hired a videographer (a student of Carlos') who brought a friend along. So that was two videos. My brother recorded what my sister & grandmother saw (three) and my brother-in-law also recorded it (four). Yes, it was the best day of my life. And best part is that I am having a "happily ever after." Every year on our anniversary, Carlos & I dance to "our song" which is a waltz-and to me, that is the most romantic dance. The funny thing is that the song is not originally from a Disney movie but Disney did buy it.

And best part is that I am having a "happily ever after." ...

Absolutely!  It's nice to have a great wedding, but that's one day.  Having a great marriage, on the other hand, translates into having a great life.  The things that matter are things like, can we agree on how to spend, save and invest money?  Do we get along with each others' families?  Are we in agreement about how to grow (or not) the family?  Can we agree on who is doing what chores?  Who's going to work and when?  Important stuff like that.  Along with that the romance, the companionship, the having someone who has your back - all comes with the territory.  Being married is great - but only because we had all the right expectations going into it in the first place.  :)

And best part is that I am having a "happily ever after." Every year on our anniversary, Carlos & I dance to "our song" which is a waltz-and to me, that is the most romantic dance. The funny thing is that the song is not originally from a Disney movie but Disney did buy it.

Sounds to me like you had a "fairy tale wedding" because of the people and not because of the "trappings".

Yup. I always say that in my first marriage, I married the wrong person at the wrong time for all the wrong reasons. I was told that the first year of marriage is hard. Then it was the first 5 years. That marriage didn't last past the 6th year because they were ALL hard. With Carlos, I married the right person at the right time for all the right reasons. Being married to him is so easy.

It is so funny how we are on the same wavelength. One of us will say, "Did you..." That is all we had to say and the other will answer knowing exactly what the other was talking about. Yeah, we have disagreements. If you live with ANYONE and it doesn't matter the relationship-husband/wife, siblings, mother/daughter, friends, etc, etc, you are GOING to have disagreements. It is how you work through those disagreement that make or break a relationship. I always say that we usually have our "semi-annual" argument because that is usual how often we have them. We haven't had one for a while and I am afraid that we are due.  :-\\

They're a great rest from my difficult circle of people a few years ago! And they're a great rest from the toxic people I had 10 years ago too!  :o

File under Going Above & Beyond the Call of Duty:  I'm sure some of you might recall the saga we had last year with our heating system (heat exchange) and finally decided to throw in the towel and just buy a new one (also a heat exchange). We are very happy we did this. The new system is much more efficient and cheaper to run. Anyway, this morning we get a phone call from the guy who installed it. He asked us how it was working with the sub zero weather we had had in the last couple of weeks. (Great) He also asked if the electricity bills were lower. (They are.)

Then he told us that he noticed that snow (from the foot or so we got last week) was around the unit and wondered if it would be ok for him & his team to come out and clear away the snow.  :o :o  I told him that I thought about that but didn't go to look. So, his team came out, and cleared the snow and made sure the outside unit was running well.

I had an anxiety attack this morning because my mother went to the hospital for her eye.  My mother said that this happened because of my past experience of this kind of thing with my grandpa falling in his bathroom, which is now my bathroom.  The ophthalmologist in Peterborough called and told her that they could fit her in but they would have to put something in her eye to get a good look in her eye but then she'd have no way of getting home because I can't drive.
So, with that said I'm going to go over the Driver's Handbook over and over again until I'm ready and then, providing that I have the money between now and April, take a Young Drivers of Canada driving course.

That is beside the point. It's just always nice to be able to get together in person.

These two women who have clinical roles, they are the same ones who joined us in 2019 for that luncheon we had at the restaurant in September of that year.

Yesterday I learned how to defrost a fridge.  We have a Danby brand mini-fridge in the basement that we use to store the food that we want to store in the fridge in our kitchen but we can't.
The only problem is that the fridge down in our basement isn't frost free so I had to learn how to do the defrosting of the fridge myself. Because I was thinking about getting a mini-fridge for my bedroom, don't ask me why I want to put a fridge in my bedroom, I just want to put one in my bedroom, and I've been comparing prices for mini-fridges.  I found the most expensive mini-fridge I could find was at Lastman's Bad Boy, yes Mel Lastman was a businessman before he became the mayor of North York and the Toronto Mega City, and close to $500 for a mini-fridge with a separate freezer compartment and a frost-free feature.
But I'm very optimistic that I can find a fridge that has all of the features that I want without breaking the bank.
