For any of you 20 or older, were you a naughty youngster?

I would consider myself neither a bad kid nor a bad teenager, although in high school I hung around what most people considered the naughtiest kids in school.
Often when a child grows up in a very dysfunctional household, the first thing they wanna do it get the hell out of there and hang around anyone available. Not me.
Although I’ve had an odd sense of humour for as long as I can remember, I was very much a loner; I stayed in my room, read books and listened to music. I participated in several sports (Hockey, baseball, soccer, tennis, swimming.)
I went to way too many parties in the 80s, have too many weird stories to tell ;D, but none of them really involved me.

I don't think I was a bad kid or teenager but I was involved in some stuff that kids/teenagers shouldn't have to go through and that could have affected my behaviour/mentality in some ways.
As for being morally bad no I don't think so, I mainly walked the line. If I was the person I am now I would have been worse.

I was a typical teenager. Did my share of stuff that I probably shouldn't have. I never got caught, though. My sister was a royal pain and my parents focused on her a lot allowing me to slip under the radar. :D

I was neither, I always got the crap beat out of me because Me And My Brother were always wimps, I never wanted to get into fights and such but you had all these bullies that wanted to beat the living hell out of you cause you were weak and small but I wasn't like the others, my mother thought I was a good kid.
Once in a while I did have my share of stealing and getting caught in the early to mid 1980's.

My horns were the only thing holding my halo up. I wasn't a BAD kid per say-but I managed to skirt around a lot of rules-without getting caught. And if I did get caught, I managed to get out of the punishment. I never served a day of detention even though I have skipped school/classes, got caught smoking (a few times actually), and I talked a lot. I wasn't destructive or anything like that. That is probably why people let it slide when I was caught doing something.
My parents never knew half of what I did. I had to be home at a certain time and as long as I was home by that time, they didn't pester me as to what I was doing-or with whom. (Oh, if they only knew. ;) ) They did ground me for two weeks once for being 2 minutes late. ::) I couldn't believe that-I thought that was so unfair. I don't think I would have done half the things I did if my parents gave me a little more freedom. It was my way of rebelling. It like a horse-if you hold the reigns too tight, the horse is going to fight you, but if you let the reigns out a bit, they won't fight. My parents held my reigns too tight-which is why I left home at 19.

In my teens I responded to an abusive environment in order to protect myself. For that, my family and my school said I was bad.

I don't think I was naughty as a kid, not even in school... but when something didn't go my way, I often had a hard time handling it. But I would not do anything truly naughty or bad (which would have led to a suspension, which other kids in my schools have gotten).

I think I see. So basically you abided by the rules, tried your best to follow them 100% But if other kids upset you or something didn’t happen the way you wished, then you got upset (like a temper tantrum or it just bothered you that you weren’t able to handle your emotions?)
You are right, that doesn't make you a naughty kid. :)

I was a good kid but I was mostly withdrawn. At school I was a loner. I didn't have long-term friends and prefered spending time with my cousins instead. Did I get along with my parents? Well my relationship with my mom has always been good but I was only close to my father when I was really young. As far as my grades I had trouble both because of not understanding and not trying... Hardly any detentions though.

I was, but I'm chalking it up to my parents sheltering me, pampering me, raising me in a hoarder house and using violence to discipline me (for those of you familiar with the Chris-chan saga, my parents are scarily similar to Bob and Barbara Chandler but about a decade each younger), being horribly bullied, and the school district being lenient with me by not making me socialize and prepare for adult life.
These days I'm trying to change that, I'll have to get far away from my whole family to be able to totally change things.

I was a good kid. When I was a kid I use to be shy, in school I would cry over anything! But I had so much fun.
Then when I came to being a teenager I was forced to have two personalities: in public and at school I was self- centered, rebellious, and so conceited! But only because I wanted to get everyone back for ignoring me and bullying me throughout grade school. It wasn't because I was bad. I purposely wanted to push everyone away from me for being so mean to me.
At home I was a completely different person. Music and singing, and video games were my escape. I was more like myself when I was around family and close friends. When I was alone I would focus on music, singing, music videos and video games! I was good at heart.

I was good. Well it was a tiny town and school and not much to fit in with. I got picked on a lot so I just kept to myself. I won several awards for things like woodworking and programming the graphing calculator. The math teacher would pull me out of boring classes like government to write programs for his other classes.
Other than that I would ride my bicycle everywhere, and stay in my room and draw and play music. Then watch late night TV after everyone else went to bed. Was always shy and never very social. While my dad was trying to keep my sister IN the house, he was trying to get me OUT of the house.

Sometimes I did get upset. Say, if they were bothering me to the point of it getting on my nerves, sometimes I would lose my patience with them and tell them to quit it, and I'd probably sound emotional about it.
This sorta thing especially happened in my middle school years. Lots of kids would harass me, and I found it hard to pay no attention to them, because many a time they were in my face (so to speak), and intuitively I assumed that the way to get them to quit was to tell an authority figure about it. One time this occurred was during my P. E. period; kids from other classes were annoying the crap outta me and I told a teacher, and I, oddly, was the one who got in trouble for refusing to "ignore them" (the teacher's advice); I protested that it seemed "impossible" because they were doing it to no end.

I never has an issue with bullies in junior high or high school. When I was small they tried to bully me but I wasn't scared and just pushed back. Once you push back against (most) bullies, and they see you are courageous and defend yourself, most (not all, but the majority) tend to leave you alone. I found they often went after people who were different, or seemed weak to them or overly emotional. I blended it with the wallpaper :) I wasnt noticed much.

Being responsible is a good character attribute to have. I was always responsible, my (younger) sister on the other hand was not at all...probably because I was responsible and she rebelled a lot against the way I was.
My father's stern warning to her before a teen party "Don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs, don't get too close to a boy and don't come home later than midnight" became her goals :D . She tried to do whatever she was told not to do. By the time I was in University and living on my own, my sister was a teen and a few times she called me to come pick her up after a party coz she drank too much and smoked too much pot and felt like sh!t :) :).

Well, certain people have certain traits and things that make them what they are. Also, you went to school at a different time than I did.
I was just picked on a lot, often name-called, for reasons that were not obvious to me at the time. I would have liked to have defended myself, but I was unsure how to do it back then. It was also during my teenage years (specifically, around highscool; this was in the mid-late 1990s) when I first heard about Aspeger Syndrome...and since then I have done my best to cope with it.

I used to have a friend, a few year ago, an ex-collegue actually.. he had asperger's syndrome. He was picked on as a kid (and young adult). He was gifted in math and spelling and very much an introvert as an adult. Bullies are pathetic arseholes because they often pick on people who they see as weaker or different (like those with Aspergers or challenged in some way, or people much smaller than they are)
Schools back then (your era or mine) should have done more to prevent bullying or to punish bullies.

I think when us older people here were younger, bullying was more "institutionalized" in schools, so to speak. It was expected, and teachers and administrators basically looked the other way. Sometimes teachers even had a hand in the bullying. Verbally, at least. It was not a good state of affairs.

Oh wow, even the teachers? Wait when were you a student? Those teachers are probably deceased and rolling around in their graves! Bullying is horrible. Let's put it this way, the teachers were not much of a help and sometimes part of the problem. I said "institutionalized", didn't I? It was commonplace. I take no comfort that they may be rolling around in their graves now. They've got their own karma to work out.

When I was in 6th grade, I was walking home from school and found myself literally surrounded by about a half dozen girls. They wanted to "kick my ass" for no other reason than the fact that they didn't like me. I knew they were very brave because it was 6 to 1 and that 1 was pretty much a wimp. I was scared sh!tless. But, a car pulled up and this woman got out of the car and told the girls to stop. As she was chewing them out, I made a run for it and got home before they could catch up to me. I remember my mother was on the porch as I was getting home. Once I hit the porch I started bawling my eyes out.
I later found out that my savoir was the mother of a classmate. I was kind of surprised because I thought that classmate (who was in the car but I didn't see her) was part of the "kick your ass" gang but I guess she wasn't.
I was so happy to move away from that school during 8th grade. I wasn't bothered by bullies after that.
I feel that I have gotten "revenge" on those girls because today I am VERY happily married, have a beautiful home and a great life. I'm sure none of them can say the same.

And who knows where they are now...probably regretting what they did!
I've never had a group of classmates wanting to fight me. In 7th grade, it was this one girl in music class. Her name was Rachael. One morning we were in class, and she was sitting behind me. I use to have very long hair, past my back when I was a teen growing up. It was so beautiful, even the teachers would give me compliments. Anyway, that morning she started with me and I had noticed everyone kept gasping and telling me to watch my back. When I turned around she had lit a pack of matches and was about to set my hair on fire! It was horrible. When I asked what she was doing she laughed. I quickly got up and left the classroom in tears. Strangely, the music teacher hadn't notice anything. But I told him, and he sent her to the principal's office where she was suspended from school. I never saw again after that.
There were a couple of other bullies who tried to mess with my very long hair. They would pull on it on purpose when I wasn't looking, and throw sticky candy at me from behind so it could stick to my hair and me being forced to cut it off. They would bully me about other things too. It was always the same people.
It must be more difficult for kids today, not only being bullied in school but also online and on social media. :-\\

I’m glad you were able to get away from those girls. The thought of what could have happened is frightening. 6 on 1! I hate bullies! I was never physically attacked, though I was made fun of a lot. People would also say bad things behind my back. To the point they would be happy if I wasn’t breathing anymore. I’m not even joking, a teacher heard them talk about it. :\'(
With that being said. I was a pretty good kid. I never caused trouble. I just did my homework and kept quiet. I had one detention because I let some rude girl copy my test once. I had written my crushes names down on a notebook. She saw it and threatened to tell the whole school. So I was bullied into letting her copy it. I didn’t tell my teacher the reason for it cause I was too much of a shy person (still am) to stand up for myself back then. So I just took my detention. An hour after school.
I got bad grades. I’m a slow learner. I would get frustrated easily, especially in math. I was in special ed class from Kindergarten on. I tried to study but it was just so hard for me. I’m lucky I passed enough classes to graduate. I wanted to just get my diploma later but my family made me walk across the stage. :-[
I sat with the rebels and the geeks. I got along with most of them. But I had few outside of school friends. Regardless of who my friends were I never did bad things after school lol.

I have been a slow learner myself, too. I did not do so well academically in certain subjects, especially in middle school and high school. So I got tutoring, which seemed to help a little bit. It saved me from failing any one class. Additionally, I was in special ed from 5th grade onward. I was lucky to never have to spend more than one year in any grade (iow, repeat any).

No one should have to resort to that; it's just sad. :\'(
