Subject: What is monkeypox?

Written By: Philip Eno on 05/23/22 at 10:01 am

Cases of monkeypox - a rare, little-known disease - are being investigated in European countries including the UK, the US, Canada and Australia.

On Friday the UK confirmed the number of cases had more than doubled, bringing the total to 20.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid said 11 new cases had been confirmed and most cases were mild.

The UK government has bought stocks of smallpox vaccine to guard against monkeypox.

Subject: Monkeypox: UK discovers 36 more cases

Written By: Philip Eno on 05/24/22 at 7:17 am

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) says it has detected 36 additional cases of monkeypox in England.

Adding in a new case found in Scotland on Monday, it brings the total number of infections in the UK to 57.

The rare virus - which causes a rash and a fever - has been seen around the world in recent weeks, which is unusual.

Health experts stress that the overall risk remains low, and that the disease can be contained.

So that means that no one in The U.S. won't get it yet?

People in the US already have it.

From wiki:

"Monkeypox was first identified in 1958 among laboratory monkeys in Copenhagen, Denmark. Monkeys are not a natural reservoir of the virus. The first cases in humans were found in 1970 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. An outbreak that occurred in the United States in 2003 was traced to a pet store where rodents imported from Ghana were sold.

In the current outbreak there is one confirmed and six presumptive cases in the US as of May 23.

Subject: Monkeypox patients should avoid pet contact

Written By: Philip Eno on 05/27/22 at 10:30 am

Monkeypox patients should avoid any contact with their pets for 21 days, according to new advice from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).

So far, 106 people in the UK have been confirmed as infected with the virus.

Gerbils, hamsters and other rodents could be particularly susceptible to the disease and the concern is it could spread in the animal population.

The government said no cases have been detected in pets so far and the risk is still low.

Looking at the info from the WHO, it does not appear to be gerbils or rodents that are the primary vector of infection.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has now confirmed nearly 100 cases of monkeypox in over a dozen countries, with the largest number in the UK. While most cases so far are among gay and bisexual men, health officials emphasise that anyone can contract the virus through close personal contact.

In the never ending search for people to feel somehow butt-hurt, the WORLD health Organization has launched an effort to rename the monkey pox disease to something else, claiming that it is “racist”.

https://time.com/6187445/monkeypox-who-rename-stigma/

It must be a horrible life working 24/7 trying to figure out how to perceive every single aspect of life as “racist”. Last I knew, monkeys were not a race.

Smallpox: An acute contagious viral disease, with fever and pustules usually leaving permanent scars.

Monkeypox: a viral disease affecting rodents and primates in rainforest areas of west and central Africa, related to smallpox and sometimes transmitted to humans.

The CDC issued what appears to be a homophobic release about monkeypox, stating that 16 of the 17 patients it has evaluated “self identified” as “men who have sex with other men”.

You're a bit behind the times, this has been known for quite some time now. Monkey Pox is largely sexually transmitted and it's main demographic is gay men. Exactly what is homophobic about this FACT? Is it homophobic that we have known for years that AIDS largely (but not entirely, of course) affected gay men? Is it racist that only Black people get sickle cell disease? There are certain diseases that are only acquired by Ashkenazi Jews. Is that anti Semitic? I'm not sure of your point.

The Biden Administration has now claimed a “national emergency” over monkeypox.

Safety tip here: Look at the statistics, the demographics, and the mode of transmission. No need to have an emergency. Transmission is easily avoided.

The politically-correct police are going wild over the monkeypox.

First people protested the very name monkeypox because, apparently, it is offensive to monkeys, I suppose.

Now there’s a move afoot to deny calling monkeypox a sexually transmitted disease. Because apparently this would offend the people who are contracting it.

https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/16/health/monkeypox-std-debate/index.html

However something like 98% of the victims are men who have sex with men; the following link goes to the clinical studies that while weirdly graphic, basically identifies the main transmission vector as people, uh, getting it on and not simple skin-to-skin contact. I’ll not go into detail, as we like to maintain proper decorum here in InThe00s.  :-X

https://www.nbcnews.com/nbc-out/out-health-and-wellness/sex-men-not-skin-contact-fueling-monkeypox-new-research-suggests-rcna43484

If people want to stop this outbreak, they need to stop pussy-footing around and call it what it is. A disease vastly and presently going wild amongst men having sex with men. If people do not deal with the reality, it will eventually spread further into the general population, likely via an infected bisexual man infecting women. And then the cat will be out of the bag.
