Subject: Who Use The Library For the Internet?

Written By: Indy Gent on 07/16/06 at 4:42 pm

Am I the only one that uses the library for the Internet? They really don't filter as much as they do at my work place, but they still filter any sex, including nude photos (the tasteful ones, too.) I did see someone sucessfully gain access to a porno site while I was in the library's systems in Georgia during my vacation. But Indy libraries are pretty strict about their censorship.

Sometimes I use the library for the internet, most of the time only to open an e-mail that I am unsure of.  If a virus gets in their computers, what the hell do I care ;D

Often I go to the local University to use their computers.  The computer lab there is air-conditioned, and on hot days like these, that's all I need

Alot of poor homeless kids may not be able to talk to their online penpals on the internet anymore because of you...

I used to use the library internet on occasion - but I mainly used the internet at High school/University. That was before I got Broadband, of course.

I wouldn't use any other computer other than my own computer at home to view pornography.

I occasionally use the internet at school (Uni). (Gotta use up that $10 worth of internet usage somehow!) Mainly to check e-mails, to school-related reseach, check up on forums etc.

i use the library sometimes, although now i have a hookup at home.

you know what's fun? sometimes you can go to netflix and someone else's account will automatically come up and you can put movies like "nude for satan" and "hitchhike to hell" on their queue.

I use library computers for the Internet at CSUN when I'm there. Often times they're the only place where I can log on to this site while I'm on campus...some of the other computer labs have limited hours, and are not open during the summer session.

We just got the internet at home (thanks to my limited wireless techie knowledge), but prior to that, we would hit the Walnut Creek Library most of the time. They'd only allow 30 minute intervals and they'd block pop-ups. You couldn't have more than one window up at a time, and I never printed anything from there, so I am not sure how that process worked. I don't personally like being online writing e-mails with strangers walking by, so I rarely did that. I looked up very superficial things because it really is for research - not to build a website or listen to songs and such.

There is one good advantage of the usage of the computers in my library, that is for the to members of the library can use them for free.

i'm always sluttin' around in libraries. there's this funny looking cat lady with a moustache who's always coming up and sitting next to me, it makes me suspicious.

that's what Captain Sally Field, USMC, Tactical Assistant Director, PsyOp Division, East Asian Aerial Theater, is counting on.

I still use the library for the 'Net on a regular basis.

I use whatever source is available since our internet has been down where we're living right now. I use my work, I'll go to my mom's, the library, tap into other wireless networks if available, etc. Even KMART has free internet near where I live and I'll sometimes use it. I mostly use my work internet, though, because I find it the safest source.

Ya know.. the last time I went to a library was August of '06.. and it was indeed to use a computer. It took me 5 minutes to log on, find the phone number I wanted and log off.. before that, hell, maybe when I was in high school I used their internet connection in the library.

In recent years, I have used it at my local public library. I particularly did so when I didn't have a PC or laptop with which to do it.

That was my main case, but libraries were useful when you were away from home.

During The early 1990's when we didn't have a computer, around 1995 and 1996.

I didn’t have a computer at my home in the early 1990s either. We got our very first one in 1993.

It was five years after that when I first used the internet…at the library of the first community college I attended.

I remember using the internet over at the library just for browsing.

I can recall once, when needing information, I asked the librarian for assistance, she pointed to the newspaper section, and found what I needed on paper, not on the computer.

I remember using this small machine to look at newspaper archives.

I have used mircofilm readers before, but in the case above, it was the hardcopy newspapers.
