It could be at Cdn only Wal-Marts, but I am not sure

It was a bargain bin of box sets for $20 that I shuffled through for hours.  Several Wal-Marts around here had the exact same titles, and if memory serves correctly, here's a few ...

Roseanne 1, 2, 3
Fresh Prince 1, 2, 3
Remington Steele 1, 2, 3
Full House 1, 2, 3
Dukes of Hazzard 3, 5
Diff'rent Strokes 1, 2

The Ellen Show The Complete Series
Ned and Stacey 1
Dharma and Greg 1
T.J. Hooker 1
Will and Grace 1
The A-Team 2, 3
ER 1, 2, 3, 4

And, even though it isn't old, I have seasons 1 and 2 of House, M.D.

The first season is the only one I knew and loved (with the Pembrokes) and the family loved this back in the day so it was a must buy.

By the way I love this thread! I'm all about my retro tv dvds!

And if I may just promote ther 2nd season of Hardy Boys Nancy Drew Mysteries. I know it sounds lame but it really is a great slice of late 70s television. Plus the new artwork is just retro heaven!

Bosom Buddies - The First Season, is now on DVD and as I expected, the syndicated theme "Shake Me Loose" appears inplace of "My Life"

During the show's original 1980-1982 run, "My Life" by Billy Joel was used, but when the show went into syndication (reruns), they switched it to "Shake Me Loose", which was a lyrical version of the closing theme as sung by Stephanie Mills.  I have always prefered it because it was original to the show

All 19 episodes of Season 1 on a 3-Disc set in a standard DVD size case.  I can hardly wait to watch it!

He was great in "The Fugitive".  I always liked him as Uncle Ned, which is still one of the best TV roles he ever had, although his appearance in that Happy Days episode where he kicked Fonzie's was also good.  lol

OMG! Tom Hanks and Peter Scolari look so young in that pic.

As for me, I FINALLY got the last 2 seasons of M*A*S*H-got 'em all now, and just today the entire collection of TNG arrived in the mail-all 7 seasons. YAY! You can guess what I am going to watch tonight.

One thing I am curious about is why some TV DVD sets are like super expensive

There was a Canadian action show I liked called "Nikita" (known as "La Femme Nikita" internationally), and everywhere I see the DVD sets, each one is atleast 74 bucks and I can't figure out why it's so expensive.  Some stores even had them at between $90 - $118 each.  I'm not crazy enough to pay those prices

The next set of t.v. shows I would like to get for my library are The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchock Presents. But those are not high on the priority list right now. We still haven't gotten through M*A*S*H & TNG yet.

Silver Spoons and What's Happening Now coming to dvd for the first time this summer!

As for high priced dvds, it's just a matter of supply / demand. An hour long tv series will always be pricier anyway.

S.W.A.T. only ran for 2 seasons, so it doesn't make sense why Season 2 isn't being released ???

I know viewer demand for it is big.  The 2003 movie with Colin Farrell was a major success, which introduecd the show to a new generation, which in turn helped Season 1 sell like hotcakes

I now have Baywatch Seasons 1 2 and 3 on DVD, but the way they package them is so stupid ...

Baywatch originally aired in Network run on NBC in 1989, but went into Syndication in 1991 for it's second season and on.  The DVD sets begin with the Syndicated run, so Season 1 is actually Season 2.

Each set contains a bonus disc with original network episodes, and once all 10 Seasons have been released, you are supposed to be able to send away for a box to hold all 23 original Network episodes of what is originally Season 1

Entire TV series by TimeLife..?  Sounds better than our Columbia House...

In other news:  Okay, Gunsmoke Season 1 is slated for release sometime this year.  Supposedly in July, but that may have changed...

Jeez, who's gonna try to tackle a Gunsmoke DVD release..?  There's something like 600-and-change episodes of this TV series..!

Personally, I LOVE Gunsmoke.  I can definately understand why it lasted so long.  That had to be one of the best scripted, best acted, best directed, best written TV dramas I've ever seen with the most clever dialogue, the most interesting characters and the most compelling stories.  I mean, each individual episode is big screen quality...

There will never be another Gunsmoke...

I got WKRP also.  Even though most of the original music isn't there, it's hardly noticible, but then again, I don't really remember what was originally used either.  The only thing that I don't like is the replacement of Jennifer's doorbell.  I haven't come up to episodes that feature it yet, but I am scared to hear what it sounds like.  To me, it should always be "Fly Me to the Moon".

I've been to all kinds of messageboards, and the feed back is worse than the whole "Bosom Buddies - My Life" fiasco.  I hope it sells well, cause I so want the rest of the seasons now.  I am actually surprised that they left in the "I love you so badly" song briefly heard in the intro as the guy switches stations

If you notice in episode 2, just before that crazy old lady comes into the booth, the record that Johnny is playing .. you can hear the music, but the needle on the record is in the centre where the record label is.  I never knew paper could play music lol

You know, I don't even remember Jennifer's doorbell.  With the exception of an odd episode or two, I don't think I've seen WKRPIC in almost thirty years.  It's just the thought...

LOL, now I'm paying particular attention to any music I hear on the set.  Ignorance could've been bliss in this respect.  I'm trying to detrmine if Fox left anything at all untouched.  You're right about the music in the intro.  I noticed, too...

Ah, the protester lady who was looking for her cat..?  Ima check that out.  Also, notice, toward the end of "Hold-Up" the first cop that comes in through the door of the stereo dealership - according to the end credits he's none other than series creator, Hugh Wilson, in a brief cameo appearance...

There is (so far) a sign of actual music .. in the episode where Baily produces the talk show, in one scene, you can hear Venus playing "Boogie Oogie Oogie" by A Taste of Honey

That was Hugh yes, and also in that same episode, the guy who plays Bucky is Bill Dial, the show's exec. producer.  They probably thought it was cheaper to get some of the production crew in guest spots, rather than hire extras lol

That gal that plays Linda Taylor in Eposide 8, is Barrie Youngfellow, who went on to fame on "It's A Living", but I know her best as that woman from Three's Company whom Jack dated.  She was living with two guys, and tried to hide it by cracking walnuts with the man's shoe ;D

Subject: Re: TV on DVD

Here's another little tidbit of WKRP .. In the episode "Hoodlum Rock", the band that plays Scum of the Earth is the actual real UK punk band Detective, to which Michael Des Barres was a member.  In the scene in Andy's office, if you look in the background, you can see a Detective poster.  Des Barres (who is best known as 'Murdoc' on MacGyver) would later become a co-star of "The New WKRP in Cincinnati" in the 1991-1992 season

I know this is going off topic a bit but I remember one episode when Jennifer just broke up with her boyfriend and they are all sitting in a bar. Andy goes up to Jennifer and says, "What's a nice girl like you doing in a place like this?". I can't remember if Mr. Carlson, Johnny or Venus came up with the next line. Then Jennifer turns to Les and says, "So Les, what is your pick-up line". He says, "Hi, I'm filthy rich."  ;D ;D ;D

Technically Season 1 had 6 episodes. The TV movie is counted seperately.  I hope after they release all the Sharon Gless episodes they will come back with a non Sharon Gless set and put the Loretta Swit movie and  6 Meg Foster eps on a DVD titled The Other Cagneys or something.

According to tvshowsondvd.com the set is actually season 2, so it seems like MGM is basically writing off that 6 episode first season that featured Meg Foster.  I am all confused now

I’ve been waiting for isis to come out for MONTHS. Is it out now? Sweet!

I really should move on from 70s Saturday morning television… but it was just the coolest! The entertainment industry has yet to top the sheer mindless entertainment factor of classic Saturday morning t.v.

lol. no, but i remember thinking that about seymour and the sea monsters and electrawoman and dynagirl. i was like, okay, i got the nostalgia bug big time but this DARES you to watch it. and with dynagirl running around in tights that show was pretty much starting out on third base.

ark ii, on the other hand, is totally hard rock. but in my saturday morning t.v. days, it was mostly about bugs.

^ S1 of Simon and Simon was great!  It features the original theme song with the frame by frame screens as opposed to the guitar based theme used from S2 and on (though it does make an appearance towards the last few eps).  Their office is in a small building in an outside courtyard, apart from the office building where it remained from S2 and on

On the S1 set, you also get a bonus episode from S2, as well as a featurette called "The Great 80s TV Flashback".  The S2 episode really is a bonus as it's not mentioned as being included on the DVD artwork

It's always better to get the seasons one by one so you get actual plastic cases that the discs can snap into.  Those limited edition Warner Brothers (2 episode) DVDs that come with some box sets appear in cardboard slip cases, and the two I have are already scratched up

I wasn't a big fan of Buffy that much :-\\

I've never seen the latter two, mostly because I don't get The WB / The CW network
Gilmore Girls does air on the W Network (Women's Television) in Canada, but I never know when it's on

For the same price, they also had the first 4 seasons of 'Dallas'.  Come pay day, I may go back and get those

I'm looking forward to The Love Boat in March 2008!!!

Check out this little clip from a Christmas episode in 1980 with Meeno Peluce and Dirk Benedict... doesn't get more retro than that!

The first season is in volumes :-\\, but the first few episodes are literally a who's who of 70s US television. I can't wait to get this!!!

I'm always tempted to get these as they just define the 70s and early 80s. We had "The Special Gift" on vhs for years... is that the best dvd set to buy (1979-80)? I just want one you see, so need to choose carefully. I really should get 79-80 for old time's sake, but my vote can be swayed.

I'm waitin' on that one as well.  Perhaps this time they are going to try and leave all the music in.  Michael Mann was able to do it with Miami Vice, hence why it took so long for those to come out

Real music or not, I am jonesing for WKRP Season 2.  It's got the best episode .. the one where that sleazy photographer takes nude shots of Jennifer, and Johnny pretends to be a swanky photographer to get them back ;D

Sadly, 'The Wonder Years' isn't out yet and It's a mystery whether it will come or not.  The music was a big part of that show, so it will the production company time to aquire all the rights to the original music so it can be kept in the original episodes.  Either that, or they will pull a WKRP and just edit in generic music, which won't sit well with fans at all

Just bought new copies of Season 2 and 7 of Roseanne for $19.99 each.  ORiginally I never planned on getting these, but at those prices I will.  If it's a classic TV show that I watched as a kid, and it's reasonable prices, then I will definately get it!  I even get ones I knew about but never watched.  Found Season 1 of 'Knots Landing' for $29.99, so I snapped that one up

That Family Feud set might be a good stop-gap until Eight is Enough gets released (if ever).

It is well worth the money.  The Eight is Enough cast compete on like 6 different episodes on the discs.  This set could really get the fire going for these DVD companies to release Eight is Enough, Angie, The Ropers and all those other shows not on DVD yet

So unbelievably jealous!

I'm putting Smurfs on hold for a while and Newhart (which I loved as a kid) needs more research seeing as I only have vague memories of it. However, my "Love Boat" dvd is on it's way.

* edit * Love Boat just arrived! Not overly impressed with the disc packaging but it's okay.

I got my Punky Season 4 last week - Whistle you'll love the first season!

I can hardly wait to see it.  As soon as I finish 'Newhart' and 'Perfect Strangers', it's next on my list to watch :)

Today, I got more great deals for under $19.99 ...

Season 2 of 'The A-Team'
Season 2 of 'Sledge Hammer!'
Season 1 of 'A Pup Named Scooby Doo'
Season 1 of 'The New Adventures of Old Christine'

I don't care for the disc packaging either.  And the whole 'Season 1 - Volume 1' thing kills me.  They should've put the whole Season 1 on DVD at once.  They probably just want to tease the buyers :(

out next week and I AM SO EXCITED ...

Season 6 of 'Wings', the debut season of Amy Yasbeck (John Ritter's widow).  She joined the cast that season as Helen's sister Casey Chappel.  I remember the episode when her and Brian finally got together and made passionate love.  Her panties flew off into the fireplace that started a spark which ended up burning down Joe and Helen's house ;D

You'll be pleased to know that Season 4 of PB is much funnier than Season 3. However nothing beats the first 2 seasons.

The 4th and 5th of Remmington was packaged nicely, but as for the episodes themselves, I can't say as I really cared for the 5th season as much.  It was OK, but the addition of Jack Scalia is easy to see why the series was cancelled

I haven't gotten around to watching it yet, but there appears to be no extras at all.  What's even more strange is that only Season 2 came out.  Season 1 (which was when it was known as '1-800-Missing') has not been released

Beware, the original theme song 'Low Rider' by War has been replaced by a new fangled theme that George Lopez came up with specifically for the DVD set.

I wanted to get it when it came out, but all stores that had it cost like $49.99, so I am waiting until it comes down in price or if I see it in a used CD store

Just received a 12 disc set of MTV's sign-on and first 24 hours, wasn't able to catch it back then because we didn't have cable until '83.  Bought the set from a YouTube member...

Amazing how many unknown, underground and under-the-radar acts were shown in MTV's infancy.  I'm only an hour into it but around half the acts I've never even heard of.  It's damn good stuff...

A stand-out, for me, was a memorable song that was a radio staple in the late 70s: We Don't Talk Anymore by Cliff Richard.  Haven't heard that song in 30 years!  Seriously...

Also one question for anyone who knows:  within the first two hours MTV aired an Iron Maiden live video and I don't think the singer was Bruce Dickenson.  Didn't look like him, didn't sound like him.  Iron Maiden must have had a different singer in their early years, right..?

The picture and sound are much, much higher quality than I expected.  The guy did a killer job with these DVDs...

Anyone interested in a set I can hook you up with the seller.  I PayPal'd him...

I have the special set that came with a yearbook.

I managed to get the yearbook autographed by Busy Phillips, Jason Segel, Paul Feig, Judd Apatow and Jon Francis Daley.  I forgot to have Linda Cardelini autograph it when I met her but hopefully our paths will cross again.

Okay, that's the one I read about on tvshowsondvd.com.  The Yearbook release was a limited edition, wasn't it?  According to the website another Yearbook edition is going to be released later this year.  I assume it's supposed to be just like the previous one, except not limited...

I went ahead and picked-up the current release.  Freaks and Geeks, according to accounts, is supposed to be the most realistic portrayal of a high school in the early 80s (1980?), and a dramatic one at that...

Like I said, you're going to get the chance this October 28th.  Thing is, the set's MSRP is 170 scoots.  Pretty steep, but it will come down.  Then you check eBay...

I hope so.  But assuming if they do release it, and if it's before the theatrical film version with Ice-T, it could be sketchy.  If the film is a bomb, then possibly no more seasons on DVD :(

Yeah it was limited release.

I love F&G.... it is far more realistic representation of high school than 90210 or Dawson's or other shows.  And it was true to the era.  Like a lot of shows... it never should have been canceled.

yeah I got it primarily because of the extras. I knew Judd and Paul were going to throw everything they had into the package. I live close to LA was fortunate to attend an event that honored Freaks & Geeks. it hadn't been canceled yet but the feeling was kind of in the air. Anyway, that event was taped and they included it on the dvd set.

When I bought it I hadn't opened it. I was going to keep it sealed and then pick up the box set at a later date but when I got tickets to meet Judd Apatow in person I was like... I'm opening the set and getting an autograph. I had no idea Busy Phillips (my favorite) and Jason Segel  (& Paul Feig) would be at the event as well so their signatures were a bonus.  Seth Rogen was there too but he skipped out before I could get his autograph.

I grabbed John Francis Daley's at an event honoring Bones a couple weeks later.  I met Linda Cardelini a few months before the Judd Apatow event but I didn't think about getting her to sign the yearbook at that time  :(

My Three Sons- Season One Vol 2 is coming to DVD (January 20th I think)  That means there's a Season One Vol 1 (I missed it!)

What I didn't miss is Season 1 of The Donna Reed releases on tomorrow/today!

^ I see My Three Sons Vol. 1 in lots of stores for like $24.99

'Spin City' Season 1 comes out next week

And Season 1 of 'Petticoat Junction' is coming soon.  I can hardly wait for that one 8)

And one I have long waited for .. Season 2 of 'Night Court' will hit store shelves in February of 2009 8) 8)

Ones I am waiting for if they ever get released ...

Season 5 of 'The Odd Couple'
Season 2 of 'S.W.A.T.'
Seasons 4 and 5 of 'Charlie's Angels'
Season 2 of 'Amazing Stories'

and I am still patiently waiting for Seasons of 'Empty Nest', 'In the Heat of the Night', 'Nurses' and 'The Hogan Family' to come to DVD.

I still often refer to 'The Hogan Family' as 'Valerie', but in syndicated reruns, those first three seasons have been re-named 'The Hogan Family' to avoid legal action with Valerie Harper, so I assume if the DVDs ever get released, they will do this same thing

I think they moved it the last season.... or you just got it at a different time in Canada because it was a Monday night show here. It aired with Kate & Allie, the Nanny,  Murphy Brown.  Oh and Cagney & Lacey of course.  CBS had this plan to combat Monday Night Football by offering women alternate feminine programming.

Something tells me that won't be the finished cover art for Blossom. It looks very cut and paste. Shout are normally quite good with their packaging, so fingers crossed. I just hope they don't do a Punky Brewster and keep the photo the same but change the background for each season.

I too hope they mix it up for each season released.  I also hope they keep the theme song (My Opinionatuion by Dr. John) intact.  I fear though that since Dr. John is a well-known singer, they might have to make a new theme, like what they did for 'Baywatch' and 'The George Lopez Show'

Love the Moon in the background.  I can hardly wait for it though I just wish they wouldn't release it in volumes like they do.

S1, Vol 1 cost me roughly $29.99 /tax when it came out as did S1, Vol 2, which totalled over 60 bucks, and whewn you think about it, If Season 1 had just come out in one whole set, it would maybe have cost about $39.99 - $49.99.
YAY! to PAramount for milking us for more money.  It's worth it though as Love Boat was a wicked show!

It's because the folks at Universal Home Entertainment are idiots.  They packaged up the 6 episode Season 1 and sold it in America only for what it would cost to purchase a regular 20 something episode season.  As a result, sales were not as expected, so they shelved the idea for further releases

Toronto based company VEI countered by pairing Seasons 1 and 2 together and sold the 28 episode 4 disc set in Canada only for around $26.99

Indeed.  The 5th season was kind of a let down though.  The first 3 sets come in the standard cardboard casing with the thin cases inside (ie: Roseanne, The Closer).  The 5th season came as a regular sized DVD case with overlapping discs inside.  I hate the overlapping discs >:(

And they run a bigger risk of getting scratched.  That's one of the reasons why I don't buy the "Complete Series" of TV Shows, because the discs usually come in cardboard sleeves (MacGyver, Friends and Gilmore Girls Complete Sets all did this), and I'd rather have longevity in a set that takes up space, then a scratchable set  in a space saving size

The "SOAP" Complete Series is the worst one of them all, because it's nothing more than a spindle inside a box, and each disc lays on top of the other, just like you get when you buy a spindle of blank CD/DVDs.  And there's nothing on top to protect them, so if you went into a store, picked up a copy and shook it, you will hear the discs clanging around inside ::)

I guess I need to get on their mailing list or get their fliers or something so I know when they have these sales... I always miss them.

On Tuesday, I got my copies of 'Blossom' (Seasons 1 and 2) and 'The Love Boat' (Season 2, Volume 1).  I'm already ½ way through Blossom, and what a blast from the past.  Man, alot of now famous people who were then unknowns did guest spots:  Stephen Dorff, Johnny Galecki, Tobey Maguire to name a few.  Watch for the episode with Estelle Getty as Sophia Petrillo LOL

I've got Love Boat 2.1 being shipped to me now! Can't wait for it as it has the cast of Diff'rent Strokes and One Day At A Time guest-starring! Oh and Grant Goodeve from Eight is Enough.

I always liked Blossom but I've still to get that 90s nostalgia bug. I'll put it on my future Wish List though.

All the episodes on the Blossom set appear in the order in which they originally aired on NBC, but apparently they originally aired out of sequence ...

In the episode where Nick kicks Tony out of the house, he agrees to let him move back, but live above the garage and pay rent.  In an earlier episode, it was mentioned that he already lives above the garage.  Talk about confusion lol

I found Season 1 of 'The Drew Carey Show' at Value Village for $14.99.  Also got Seasons 3 and 4 of 'La Femme Nikita' for $29.99 each at Future Shop.  Also got Seasons 1, 2 and 3 of 'Home Improvement' at Best Buy for $19.99 each.  And if that's not all, I got all 5 seasons of 'Alias' at Best Buy for $24.99 each

God bless good deals 8)

I really love when Best But does the $19.99 a season deal.  That is how I got Season 2 and 3 of The Unit as well as all 3 seasons of Prison Break.  I also got most of my 9 season collection of Married With Children that way.

I now have Season 2 of Dave's World, Season 11 of Cheers and Season 2 of Simon and Simon.

The Simon & Simon set is awesome.  When it originally premiered it's 2nd season in 1982, it aired as a 2 part episode.  The 1st part took place in a Magnum P.I. episode which aired an hour before and appears on the DVD 8)

I can't wait for the later seasons to come.  My all-time favoueite ep was the one where Bernice needed to go to the hospital to visit Julia, so she called an ambulance thinking it was like a taxi service.  When the paramedics arrived and saw how loopy she was, they took her along "just in case" LOL

Rhoda will be a cool one to get.  Makes one wonder what took 'em so long to release Season 1 as the 1st 4 seasons of 'Mary Tyler Moore' have been out for a while.  On that note, apparently the rest of the seasons of MTM are in consideration to be released as a 'Complete Series' set

I'd rather have season by season.  The complete series sets cost an arm and a leg, plus the discs come in sleeves that scratch them

^ Now that's awesome news 8)

I picked up Seasons 3 of 'The Nanny' and 'Barney Miller' and get this.  Sony Pictures now puts their box sets in spindles.  The discs come layered on top of each other.  I was not happy about that, but the good thing is it is still a standard size DVD case, so I can just get a replacement case with the centre flip thingy

Also got 'Dynasty:  Season 4, Volume 1' and the historic 'Hope and Faith - Season 1'.  Why is it Historic?  Because it was the first successful show in which Ted McGinley was apart of the cast from the start ;D

Good choices with The Nanny and Dynasty. The 3rd season of Nanny has some great episodes.

Not sure about Sony and their spindles though. Sounds like an accident waiting to happen.

They had disastrous results with their "Complete Series" sets of 'Soap', 'Sanford and Son'  and 'What's Happening' as they did the same thing, but at a cheaper value.  the thinest, flimsiest plastic tray that sits inside the box case.  All those discs layered in cheap packaging.  No thanks ...

is that what the issue is, or one of the issues? that sucks, but now that I think about it, I have probably 10-20 episodes taped on VHS in a box in the garage. I should get those out and see what the quality is. there may be commercials, but the old 80's 90's commercials may be fun to watch too.

I doubt if we will see The Wonder Years on DVD anytime soon.  The only way they could do it is if they kept in the original music, which would be difficult with the music licensing crap and all.  Look at all the people who complained about 'WKRP in Cincinatti'

The only issues I had with the WKRP DVD set was Jennifer's Doorbell, and the radio call in episode

Just picked up Season 2 of '8 Simple Rules'.  I noticed it was released by a different company than Season 1 was.  So I gather S1 didn't sell as expected, so the rights were sold to another distributor.  Either way, it gets released.  Sadly, it's the season where John Ritter passed away :\'(

Honestly I did too.  Ritter's untimely death brought a decrease in the show's ratings, but it was still a fan favourite.  There were some though who still could not accept the fact that the show went ahead after Ritter's death, which I thought was stupid.

When Nick Colassanto (aka "Coach") passed away, did they cancel 'Cheers'?  No.  When Selma Diamond passed away, did they cancel 'Night Court'?  No.

Lara Jill Miller, Samantha from Gimme a Break, also went on to practice Law.

And what really floored me was when Danika McKellar, also from Wonder Years, went on to be some sort of math genius

From IMDB:
Danica McKellar made her breakthrough at the early age of 12. After that show ended, she went on to graduate Summa cum Laude from UCLA with a degree in Mathematics, and even proved a new math theorem, the Chayes-McKellar-Winn Theorem.

I notice Season 7 of '24' is now on DVD/Blu-Ray.  There is still one thing that baffles me about this show.  It is filmed in real time.  With each episode run time at roughly 42 minutes, and an average of 24 episodes per season, each season of the show is roughly a day out of Jack Bauer's life.  At 7 seasons, that's 7 days, and not once do we see him use the washroom.

If I went 7 days without taking a poop, I'd be going to see my doctor :D

I'm pretty sure that is exactly what it is since just like WKRP, there is lots of popular music prominent in the show, they've had alot of issue with putting the episodes out because of licensing.

That is how I got my Friday the 13th television series (whole series on DVD).  Although I didn't know it at the time that it was bootlegged.  Oh well.

Cold Case airs about 6 times a week... I have managed to watch every episode except for a few from this season because they haven't made the rotation yet.
TNT run two or three on Tues and Weds late night
CBS airs one ep on sundays after the news
and TNT just started airing them at 11a (I think 1pm for you) on Weekdays... you can see every episode in order on either of the TNT airings...)  :)

Yes, I watch all of those except for the Sunday one, which I think is around 9 p.m. and for some reason I'm usually busy at that time.
I probably have seen a good portion of the ones that are out there, several times over.  I still like watching them though.
I should really hook up my VCR and start recording them.  I dug the machine out of all my moving crap, and it is sitting beside my television/cable box.  I just have to make it a point of actually connecting the two devices.  I still haven't quite figured out if I have DVR or how to actually use it.  One must be smarter then the technology available.  Ha!

I'd be interested in seeing your results.  I like statistics.

When I went to Philly in March, I so wanted to drive around and look to see if I could see any of the key players filming.  But since I hate really big cities and we really didn't have alot of time to do stuff and I was kind of a mess (when I finally got there), I didn't actually get to go look for any filming locations.  I think it would be kinda cool to play a dead body on the show.  lol

Good thing you didn't spend a lot of time looking. They shoot the show mostly in la.  Although they do what er did and take a couple days a season to shoot some exteriors on location. If youre lucky you might catch them. And I'll be very jealous. I was outside of their production offices and sound stage once. Seeing one of the producers get in his car and reading his name on his  parking spot after he pulled out is the closest I've ever gotten.

With the music licensing issues, it may be a long while because all the original music would need to be left in, otherwise fans would complain and rally the way they did about Season 1 of WKRP in Cincinnati

I don't see why it's not pheasable though.  Michael Mann did it with all 5 seasons of Miami Vice, but in that case, it may be easier to get licensing rights to 80s songs than it would be 60s songs

they were also able to keep the music in for Swingtown...which is pretty amazing for a show with a small following that only aired one seasons (half a season)

I think it has something to do with licensing agreements. I was talking with the producer and learned that Swingtown only has the rights to the music for 5 years so once these DVDs sell they will more than likely never be released again. Or done so with different music. If you are a fan of the show I suggest getting a copy now.

They replaced most of the original music with "sound-a-likes" or new songs recorded by studio musicians made to sound like hits at the time.  As a workaround for music played in the background while actors were talking, some of the characters' voices had to be redubbed by sound-a-like actors, and what was not able to replace, many scenes were edited or cut.

Of all the changes made, I only had issues with two of them:

♦ Scenes from Jennifer's apartment, her doorbell, which originally rang to the tune 'Fly Me to the Moon', now rings as 'Beautiful Dreamer'

♦ The contest episode where Johnny accidentally offers $5,000 in prize money.  Radio callers that originally called into guess the 8 songs, were dubbed in with new voices to guess names of songs that don't exist

I always loved that show. It would be weird to hear sound alike actors. Seems like they went to alot of trouble to make a buck.

I was really surprised the music remained unchanged on the Swingtown DVD's.  Do you really believe this set will continue to be produced after this year?  Don't get me wrong, I love mine.  If there's a way to wear out these discs, I'll be the one to do it.  I had better buy a second set :D

I don't know how many sets they initially produced all I know is there's only 4yrs left on the music so you wouldn't want to buy a set later that read new edition... its probably the same set with new music... and one crappy extra interview.

Like what they did with 'Kate and Allie' in the States, released Season 1 only

Yeah; the re-release of the original 1979-80 Battlestar Galactica did it right.

If it's been more than 10 years since it last aired, just release the whole series at once.  It doesn't cost appreciably more, and it'd greatly increase sales for people who want the entire series or nothing else.

I've got no regrets for having bought The Equalizer, Season 1, but I want the rest of the set, and would have gladly paid a premium to not have to wait some indeterminate amount of time to upgrade from the .torrented versions.

Season 6 of 'Kate and Allie' came out last week.
Season 2 of 'Designing Women' is out this Tuesday.
Season 4 of 'Taxi' is coming soon

It's an 80s sitcom fest! 8)

I bought 5 Seasons of "Everybody Hate's Chris."  I never saw it prior to this.  WOW I am a huge fan of the show now.  I always enjoyed the father on the show, Terry Crews, he is way to funny to be that BIG a dude.

I've seen Terry Crews in countless movies, and his role on that show is great.  It's a change from the characters he normally plays

I got my Fame DVD today...or should I say DVDs....

I placed an order on Sept 6th forgetting that I had already placed an order in July....and- apparently in July I accidentally ordered 2 copies so I got three copies of Fame in the mail this week.  ::)

^ I got it as well.  I too was disappointed no inclusion of the Fame Concerts.  I was looking forward to Carlo Imperato's rendition of 'Tell Her About It'

What I didn't like is how they paired Seasons 1 and 2 together.  I ended up selling the S1 set I already had to a used CD shop.  No sense in owing the same thing twice

According to Amazon one of the eps on this new set has an ep that has a musical change in it... I was going to watch the two versions of the eps to see if there was a difference before getting rid of my first set.

I picked up the long awaited Season 4 of 'Taxi' and it's awesome!  It has my very favourite episode where Ted Danson plays a gay hairstylist who knowingly gives Elaine an hideously expensive bad hairstyle.

My collection is no where near as massive as many of yours but here it is:

The Simpsons- Seasons 1 to 7
Seinfeld- Seasons 1 to 5
Cheers- Season 6
Frasier- Season 6 (this is my favorite sitcom of the 1990s hands down, and I would love to get every episode in a box set)
The Critic- Complete Series
The West Wing- Season 1

So it's been reported that VEI has no plans to release 'Season 3' of Gimme A Break.  Instead, they will release all 6 seasons in one complete series set, which pisses me off.

I want season by season.  I don't like complete series sets because they usually come in sleeves or casing where you slide the disc out (while scratching it in the process)

Completely agree! Individual seasons are so much more personal (and better packaged). I was hoping to just get season 3 as I'm more of a casual Gimme A Break fan. I wanted to get it for the intro of Joey Lawrence and the Andy Gibb episode...  :D  But in all seriousness, I am put out, as now I doubt I'll ever own any Gimme A Break stuff.

MGM got feedback from people who didn't understand why they had to buy Season 1 all over again when they originally bought it in 2005.

So after they already released the 1/2 set, after those who wanted Season 2 had already bought this, NOW they decide to release Season 2 separately.  I think MGM owes us purchasers some money.

I bought the S1/S2 set, and sold my original S1 set to a used DVD shop.

I hear ya.  Maybe they will release those separately.  What they should do is re-release 'The Kids From Fame' albums on CD and include those concerts on included DVDs.  I'd definately get those.

I still get a kick out of Carlo Imperato singing 'Tell Her About It'

One of the best things I liked about Fame was Cynthia Gibb.  I had such a crush on her.  In the 90s, she played Dabney Coleman's daughter on a sitcom called 'The Madman of the People'.  I watched every episode of that 8)

Here's some photos of what I now have.  Not everything is here as I don't have alot of shelf space to hold it all (yet), so most stuff A through parts of E are still in boxes.

What a collection! I'd never leave my room if that was mine. Love seeing some common titles we both have. And very jealous of the ones I don't have.
