The Beatles?  Isn't that the cheezy British boy band that covered Tiffany's "I think we're alone now" in the 80s?  (Y'all remember Tiffany, right?  The poodle-skirted jukebox goddess of the late 1950s who helped spark the "doo-wop invasion" of the early 60s?)

"There are some pretty weird alternate realities out there."

Fifty years ago this month, Hugh Everett III published his paper proposing a "relative-state formulation of quantum mechanics" - the idea subsequently described as the 'many worlds' or 'multiverse' interpretation.  Its impact on science and culture continues. In celebration, a science fiction special edition of Nature on 5 July 2007 explores the symbiosis of science and sf, as exemplified by Everett's hypothesis, its birth, evolution, champions and opponents, in biology, physics, literature and beyond....

To quote Sir Paul McCartney "There is no Beatles without John."  True to his word.

it amazes me that some of the music sounds so fresh.  i was reading the rolling stone mag 40th anniversary edition and it's full of amazing pictures...and they mention how not only music, but fashion changed as well with their arrival.

The way Paul and John worked was unique and curious for when playing, at rehearsal or composing, as Paul is left handed he would sit as an mirror image of John, this way it made it easier to follow each other.

The pop music world was changed indeed - for the good!  Great thread - we mustn't fail to recognize the Beatles' monumental significance regarding music of the rock era.  8)

And what an irony.

It was 40 years ago today that The Monkees gave their first public concert.  And their opening act was The Jimmy Hendrix Experience.

Do you remember that really cool and now famous picture of Paul McCartney and Micky Dolenz smoking joints?

Actually, The Monkees were huge fans of Jimi and his music.

However, the teeny-bopper kids were not fans of Jimi.  It would be like having a Stryper concert opened by Marilyn Manson.
