sorry, im thread-whoring. sorry, i can't sleep. :-[

i could have sworn there was a bond theme thread already but i spent a while looking and couldn't find it.

anyway, here's some faves...

mr. mccartney in all his modesty. probably the most all-around groovy and danceable bond theme. you need linda doing her thing to make it work, imo. then, here's an odd surprise...

now is there a band i would have ever thought less likely to cover carly simon? maybe cannibal corpse, but then again, they covered tori amos after a fashion, so...

i love the original carly simon version too, by the by. the actual movie? not so much.

and then the ultimate best bond theme...

and this is a fun alternate version as it would sound if played on a UFO.

(in other news, was i the only one who thought the title sequence for the casino remake was way overrated? great movie, theme was sorta... meh.)

I think Goldfinger was the best.  It is a lot of fun to sing along with, and so well attuned to the genre  ;D

also angela bassey, evidently, who did moonraker more than a decade later. i like the goldfinger theme a lot.

there's this store up here that sells all these great movies on vhs for peanuts, like, less than a pound apiece. they totally have goldfinger and thunderball, i've been fighting the urge because i've seriously been buying so many movies there that even at those prices it's starting to add up. ;D

I still like Octopussy (All Time High by Rita Coolidge) because it was the closest post 60s-70s Bond theme to match that original style of that from the ones in the 60s and 70s

The best one (in my honest opinion) is the first...strangely enough titled 'The James Bond Theme' (as heard in 'Dr. No' and used as a subsequent undertheme in the following films...)

John Barry has always maintained he hand a hand in writing it, but Monty Norman is credited as the composer...

When John Barry first played the theme of 'Goldfinger' to Tony Newley & Les Bricusse (who wrote the words), they annoyed him somewhat by breaking into 'Moon River' after the first few notes!

I liked "License To Kill" by Gladys Knight best. Sheena Easton gets second place with "For Your Eyes Only".
