Tell us about an animal actor that you enjoy:

Terry the dog, who played Toto in the Wizard of Oz, is a cairn terrier.  he got paid 125 $ a week.

Bart the Bear.  He was born the same year I was, but he passed away a few years ago.

Because he is a bear, you might not know him by name, but you will remember his work.  He was the title role in the films 'Clan of the Cave Bear' and 'The Bear' and was also the bald-headed bear in 'The Great Outdoors'.  He also played the bear in 'White Fang', 'Legends of the Fall', 'On Deadly Ground', 'The Edge' and 'Meet the Deedles'.

Apparently his performance was so good in 'The Bear', that he was actually in consideration for an Academy Award for Best Actor, but how do you give an award to a bear? LOL

Some might say he was typecast for playing a bear, but I for one disagree ;D

I always found him one dimensional as an actor and that's why he was always typecasted. Did he play any roles other than a bear?

A couple of my favorites...

'Moose'...who played Eddie the dog on "Frasier." He passed away a year or two ago at age 16. :\'(
'Keiko'...the whale which was cast as the title character of the movie "Free Willy."

My all-time favourite was that dog that played Dreyfuss on 'Empty Nest'.  Whenever Dreyfuss got scared, he'd run into the bottom cupboard and pull the door closed with his teeth ;D

http://archimedes.galilei.com/stlcofcc/blogimages/dreyfuss.jpg

There was an episode of 'The Golden Girls' where Sophia offered to look after Dreyfuss, and suddenly thought he'd run away.  So when she bought a look-a-like dog, Dreyfuss came back and she couldn't tell which was which ;D

Here's a little trivia:  The original dog who played Benji was the same dog that was on the 60s sitcom 'Petticoat Junction'
