Subject: Alternative/Camp/"B" Grade/Grindhouse/Exploitation Cinema (Linkage)...

Written By: Davester on 01/10/09 at 10:42 pm

I want to share a couple of links to some online niches specializing in the weird, campy, cheesy, shocking world of undergound cinema...

   https://www.somethingweird.com/
   http://www.alternativecinema.com/
   http://www.synapse-films.com/
   http://www.blue-underground.com/
   http://www.subversivecinema.com/

Blue Underground is sort of the "Criterion Collection" of schlock.  I own three of theirs: The Final Countdown, Amazon Prison, Django, Bare Behind Bars.  From Something Weird: Marihuana, Assasin of Youth, Reefer Madness triple feature.  From Subversive Cinema: Hundra (sort of a Red Sonja knock-off)...

Something Weird Video even offers their titles in both DVD and VHS.  Check out the selection on this site...

   http://www.somethingweird.com/cart.php?target=category&category_id=340...

Of particular interest are the Educational Scare Films - http://www.somethingweird.com/cart.php?target=category&category_id=4.  This stuff rocks the house..!

Edited to add: Some sites linked feature preview clips/video artwork which contain nudity/graphic images.  Parental discretion is advised...

Not documentaries, mind you, just b-movies for shock value.  The nastiest parts of these exploitation films is on-screen animal cruelty, which the directors wouldn't get away with today.

i have a shelf full of something weird videos. i love them. i have, let's see, the curious dr. humpp, fluctuations, all women are bad, the love captive, atomic scare films vol. 1, and the lustful turk. all outstanding examples of, well, horrible, horrible cinema in fact. dr. humpp is my favorite. and the package art is awesome, i'm glad i have them on vhs cuz you get the big boxes.

mst3k had a licensing agreement with swv, i think. a lot of their later movies were reissued by something weird in unmistied form. most of it's public domain, in fact most of it would probably be lost if it weren't for them, so they provide a valuable public service in my opinion. you haven't lived until you've stayed up for 72 hours, drunk fourteen pots of coffee and a fifth of jack, and then smoked so much doobidge you couldn't breathe and then watched "the love captive" all the way through. weirdest fudgein' movie of all time, watch it once and you're legally insane.

another good source is other cinema.

The latest in my Something Weird collection - Alice in Acidland (in black & white).  Hour-long story of a college girl's introduction to sex and drugs, it takes Alice more than forty minutes to drop acid.  Until then, she just drops her britches.  When she finally does make like Lucy in the Sky, it goes color for the crazy acid visions that we've been waiting for.  Then, more shots of Alice and her friends writhing around naked, of course!  But in color and with one them wearing some kind of Kabuki make-up...

Watching these dorks party in the '60s makes me wonder how the hell we were ever born...

Yup, Smoke and Flesh, too.  SW likes to send me these discs in cases that look as though they've ben backed-over by a dump truck with a bumper sticker that says "I brake for apparitions of Mary"...

So far none of the precious cargo has been damaged...

I have a few others that could qualify for soft porn...but it's all in good fun...
