Subject: Instrumentals

So...What are (some of) your favorites? Will you tell me if I tell you mine?  ::)

Well, here they are anyway (in no particular order):

Carnaval De Paris - Dario G (never fails to get me in a good mood)
Telstar - The Tornados (a classic!)
Misirlou - Dick Dale & The Del-Tones (yes, you know this one)
Unsquare Dance - Dave Brubeck (Never knew what it was called until a few weeks ago)
Magic Fly - Space Holy macaroly! They actually made a CLIP to this?! :o
The Box - Orbital
Route 101 - Herb Alpert (this was used for a radio show on Tour de France in Holland)
1980-F - After The Fire (reminds me of Saturday evenings and a place I used to visit)
Rovers Return - The Korgis (a hit only in Holland)
Biscaya - James Last (another one that brings back summer memories)

and now for something completely different:

Monstertruckdriver - T. Raumschmiere

One tune that I can't find at the moment, but that's an absolute classic over here:
Crunchy Granola Suite - Percy Faith Orchestra

(Note: Top 12 is subject to change)

I can think of a few of the top of my head"

Love is blue - Paul Moriat ( My favorite instrumental song, it's so beautiful)
Cotton Candy - Al Hirt
Classical gas - Mason Williams
Fire on high - E.L.O
Chariots of fire - Vangelis
The Entertainer (for the movie "The Sting")
Music Box dancer - Frank Mills
A swingin' safari - Bert Kaempfert
I was Kaiser Bill's batman - Whistling Jack Smith
Bongo rock - The incredible bongo band

There's so many more I like, can't think of them right now. Lots of Herb Alpert, Andre Gagnon ("Wow" is one of his better ones)

Thanks for the reply, Frank. Some excellent stuff there.

Heh. And to think it was a song to start with ("l'Amour Est Blue", originally sung by Vicky Leandros).

Cotton Candy - Al Hirt
Classical gas - Mason Williams

I used both in my most recent quiz. Sadly, no one recognized Cotton Candy. :(

Fire on high - E.L.O
Chariots of fire - Vangelis
The Entertainer (for the movie "The Sting")

I felt like I had to limit myself to 12, but else I would've also picked Vangelis, Whistling Jack Smith and Bert Kaempfert. 8)

Feel free to post more.

BTW: Thanks for reminding me of André Gagnon. I'd totally forgotten about him.

Although a classic, and a #12 hit in Holland, it doesn't sound familiar to me at all. :-[

A couple of years ago there wasn't a problem.
I guess we just have to find and list them before they get deleted from youtube.

André Gagnon - Suprise
(Uh-oh, more disco)
;D

And it took me a minute to figure out what those two bars with a red dot in the middle was next to some of the songs.

Andre Gagnon had some more great ones:  "Dédéthoven", & "L'ouverture eclair" are good ones too

"Green Onions" is a great song. My wife tells me they use this song when they pick the winning numbers for the lottery in Hong Kong.
"Joy" - Apollo 100
Rebel Rouser - Duane Eddy
Pick up the pieces - Average white band
"The west side" - Phil Collins
"Popcorn" - Hot butter
"Sirius" - Alan Parsons

Speaking of which, can anyone place the early-80s (or late-70s?) keyboard instrumental in the background of Con$olidated's Our Leader?  I know for a fact I've heard the original in the early '80s, but have nothing beyond the track's appearance (itself possibly used as background music to some speech/ad, and then sampled by Consolidated) in this weird little snippet of early '90s sampling.

I've been trying to track some of these down for ages.  Instrumentals are the hardest things to identify online, especially when all you have to go on is the memory of having heard the original on the radio.

I won't include any dance / club anthems as there are far too many.

So that just leaves me with some corny yet nostalgic offerings from... :D

You be correct!
The person who did the graphics for that opening is the same person who did it for "2001: A Space Odyssey".

Sorry, I couldn't find a decent example of this.
Only 30sec clips that I don't think had the background music you want.
