Subject: Fantasy TV Schedules (If you're in charge in any network)

Written By: woops on 05/27/09 at 2:27 am

If you could improve a network, what changes would you make like the schedules or what should air and shouldn't...

Here's an example:

VH1 Classic... Besides all music videos, I'd take advantage with the MTV/VH1 archives (I read that they aired "Club MTV" at one time and they air "Pop Up Video")  and whatever Viacom owns. Also more themed weekends (funny, sexiest, animated, videos from particular years), less shows (have to be music related), sell all reality shows to "The Reality Show Network", and videos shown in watchable hours.

From the "8 Days of 80s" week, I'd give it a 2 out of 10. Wasn't for the video marathon, which wasn't the best since it didn't air much obscure videos and mostly videos that are on regular rotation, would've given it a one.

Fantasy schedule for an '80's themed week or MTV's anniversary (Which will only happen when Disney XD turns into 'Vault Disney')... though based on regular VH1 Classic schedule

Note: No "Metal Mania" since "Best of Headbangers' Ball" will feature hard rock/metal videos

1:00 AM  to 8:30 AM  "Totally '80's"

8:30 AM "Pop Up Video" (has to be relevant to '80's)

9:00 AM: MTV/VH1 documentriues (ie "Behind the Music", the MTV special that's about the history of the network)

11:00 AM  "MTV Authentic Reproduction"  back to back (series that aired in 1997 that featured actual vintage MTV clips with videos from 1981 to 1989)

12:00 PM: actual concert specials  from the '80's (MTV, VH1, anything Viacom owns)

3:00 PM "Club MTV" (back to back)

4:00 PM "Best of Yo! MTV Raps"

5:30 PM "That Metal Show" (only with guests that's relevant to the '80's themed week)

6:00 PM "Best of Headbanger's Ball"

7:30 PM Vintage MTV/VH1 specials (ie "Video Music Awards" Guest VJs, "Remote Control" with music celebs,  etc)

10:30 PM "Best of 120 Minutes" (with  interview/performance clips from original MTV series)

12:00 AM "Classic Albums" (has to be relevant to the 80s)

Weekend: '80's Performances A to Z" (Vintage performances shown in alphabetically order by artist)Top 100 Greatest Videos of the '80's... this time ranked by fans out of a list of  500 videos and only videos are shown since the actual special would air on VH1

Boomerang:

Obviously vintage Looney Tunes and bring back the non-Tom & Jerry MGM cartoons

Though some '90's WB cartoons like "Tiny Toon Adventures", "Animaniacs", and others would be good.

Add Jabber Jaw, Captain Caveman and Speed Buggy to the line up and I would be in heaven.

I wouldn't want to run a previous station. I'm too damn stubborn and I'd rather start up my own.

During the days, there would be Miami Vice Marathons and instead of commercials, there would be music video breaks. (Which is a lot more pleasant to the eye than a Depends or Tampax commercial)
And on weekends there would be artist themed days like "Michael Jackson Saturdays" or "Prince Sundays" I might even throw in a "Madonna Monday". Aw let's go for the gusto--an artist themed marathon every night! We'd have everyone. Just wild bands like The Talking Heads, Timbuk Three, just everyone one and it would be a wonderful source of great 80s music and tv shows.

And I would even try to get interviews with the artists and let them reflect back on the times. And late night instead of that stupid InStyler informercial (why the hell do they clap when someone strightens thier hair? i straighten mine every morning. No one applauds me.  >:( ) there would be tutorials on different styles of the era. Like women could see how to dress like Madonna, or Apollonia or Morgan Fairchild and men could learn to look like Boy George, Luther Vandross or David Bowie.

It would be so awesome and of course, I'd have my hand up to the elbow in everything if it were my network.

I'm a writer, I have creativity spouting out my ears.  :)

MTV & VH1 used to have marathons devoted to Michael Jackson & Madonna in the 1990's. I'll admit that I've gotten sick of them (though I like a few songs, but never was that into them) .

Though I'd actually watch it if the the classic rock oriented VH1 Classic were to air a weekend marathon of MJ & Madonna. Though recently, I've already gotten tired of their contant exposure of Rush (.  Give other artists and genres a try for a change... (then again, I read that the network was more diversed) Not to mention they air too much documentries (from this decade) and movies.

I wish someone would do a marathon like that, but with rare stuff. I mean I could do it personally for Michael Jackson at my own house because I litterally have 100 VHS tapes with him on them. But I would like to see other people other artists displayed like that.

And I volunteer to help any woman achieve tha Apollonia/Vanity look and any man achieve the Prince look or the MJ look. (pick an era--ONE era)  ;D

That would definitely appeal to me; about 99% of today's ads are downright boring and annoying

MTV2 should be rebranded as a cult tv channel with MTV & Comedy Central shows, animation, rarely seen movies, short lived tv shows, etc.  Rather than a Disney XD or Spike  for teenagers.

Honestly, if I ran Cartoon Network (actually Turner networks) I'd give Adult Swim it's own channel or move it to TBS since it's mostly animated sitcoms and British live action imports.

Also would mix older cartoons with current like Looney Tunes, Flintstones, Jetsons, some older action cartoons/anime, and also blocks that would give a wider appeal.

Since BET Jazz is revamped into Centric

Only if VH1 Classic & MTV2 are also to be  given  makeovers (or another since both have already done changes sometime ago)...

Especially that VH1 Classic mostly focuses on classic rock (plus the same dozen concert specials), rejected VH1 specials/documentaries from the past decade, music videos played only in the dusk/morning...also tend to be very repetitive/selective, movies (especially those that have nothing to do with music), and far less variety like it had before.

MTV2 is just  a Spike TV clone with  MTV rejects ("Punk'd", "Pimp My Ride", "Jack@ss")  and only selected episodes of "Beavis & Butt-Head" that air time to time...

VH1 Classic could turn into a pop culture channel similar to Trio (researched it, though never seen) with cult tv shows, movies, music videos, some classic tv ( stuff from Nickelodeo, MTV/VH1 archives and other stuff from Viacom) etc.

MTV2 could revert into a vintage music channel with variety like what VH1 Classic had during it's first years...plus stuff from the MTV/VH1 vaults

The Disney Channel

5 AM-10 AM:  Playhouse Disney type stuff could stay, but more quality stuff than this Baby Einstein garbage.
11 AM-3 PM:  Vault Disney stuff like Lizzie McGuire, Boy Meets World, Sister Sister
3PM-6PM:  Hannah Montana stuff...that's enough
6PM-10PM:  Disney double movie...new episodes on Friday
10PM-5AM:  Disney "Adult Swim"
