Subject: Music Rivalries

Written By: whistledog on 02/09/12 at 9:14 pm

Many times in the music business, there have been some friendly, and maybe even some unfriendly rivalries.  To kick things off, here are two from the 2000s ...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In 2006, the syndicated Baywatch Theme I'll Be Ready by Jimi Jamison saw a revival in two versions:

Naughty Boy - Phat Beach (I'll Be Ready)

In 2005, the classic Waiting For A Star to Fall by Boy Meets Girl was revived in two versions:

Cabin Crew - Star to Fall

Here's one from the 80s ...

In 1981, Falco had a smash hit in Europe with a German language song called Der Kommissar.  By late 1982, the song had made it's way to North America, but by that time, an English language cover version by the British group ATF (After the Fire) had already hit the charts.

Falco's version failed in the US, where ATF's version reached #5.  In Canada, both versions were in the chart at the same time, and both peaked on the same day.  In the history of music, it is one of the most fantastic chart battles of all time.

Here is the Canadian chart run for both songs ...
