Subject: Movies that stand the test of time. Classics people should know.

One movie per post please.  Post a picture when posting too (scene or movie poster).

Inspired by the fact that people haven't seen The Graduate.

Which is a total classic, that is frequently cited and parodied.

Alot of movies in here, I have never gotten around to seeing.  I did see John Hinckley's favourite film Taxi Driver, but I never saw what all the fuss was about it.

I know this one is not in the same class as Casablanca and other legendary works in here, but my first pick is the 1984 feature 'Beverly Hills Cop'.  I never get tired of this movie, and it is part 1 of what I still consider to be the greatest film Trilogy of all time!

definitely a classic cop film.  one of my 300 rewatchable movies...

I've seen most of the ones people have mentioned so far.  Going to have to add a few to my Netflix queue however.

Thumbs up for Johnny Dangerously in your 1984 list.  I saw that movie once.  ONCE!  And then I watched it about 50 more times :D

Also for 'Teachers'.  That movie was great.  Crispin Glover as a crasy student lol

During the 80s I think Michael Keaton hit gold with every role he took. Johnny Dangerously, Beetlejuice, Batman, Gung-Ho, etc.

The theme song is one of my all time favorite .38 Special tracks.  Richard Mulligan totally stole that movie.

Buckaroo Bonzai
American Graffiti
A Fish Called Wanda
Trading Places

If you've not seen these yet, give them a try.
Buckaroo Bonzai is one of my all-time favorites, (it could be because I have a rather cracked sense of humor).  ;D

Dark Side of Oz

"The Wizard of Oz" synched up with Pink Floyd's, "Dark Side of the Moon"

I recommend doing it at least once with the list of "synchs".  It's fun at least once or twice and some of the matchups are really cool (when Dorothy falls off the fence right after the line "balanced on the biggest wave, heading towards an early grave" and "Money" starting right on the change to color).

The Dark Side of the Rainbow (mashing up Pink Floyd's DSOTM with The Wizard of Oz) is worth doing.

Look, you've probably seen the pony thread.  If you enjoyed even one of those videos where someone's managed to lipsync the TV show's video with the audio from one of your favorite songs, you'll like Dark Side of the Rainbow.

I grew up thinking it was planned as part of Waters' genius, but then the Internet made it easy enough to create mash-ups that I realized it really was just my brain playing tricks on me.  What the thinker thinks, the prover proves..  You can replicate the experiment - stone cold sober, if that matters - by taking your favorite piece of (lyrical) music, putting your headphones on, and channel-surfing through commercials during the 2-3 minutes between shows.  I guarantee you that at least once you will find a commercial that "fits" your tune, or vice-versa.  Knowing that it's the audio-visual equivalent of Pareidolia doesn't make it any less amusing!

(And if you aren't into Pink Floyd, try P!nk.  It has the virtue of (to the best of my knowledge) never having been tried before.  You just might find something farking perfect :)

This is true.  Once, my friends and I were watching Beavis and Butthead, but had the volume off, and played the soundtrack to "Phantom of the Opera" over it instead.  It was unbelievable!  It really did look like Beavis and Butthead were singing the lyrics to each song.  ;D  *sigh*  Good times...
