Subject: September is usually the month of change

Written By: joeman on 08/31/12 at 8:49 am

Think about it, it seems that every September, something big happens that changes the whole atmosphere of our society.  Two examples:

Sept 1991, Nirvana was big and killed off hair metal.  Leads to explosion of anti-hero films
Sept 2001, 9/11, changed the way we think of other countries and made America more vulnerable.

So is anyone else with me in saying that September is the groundbreaking month for every year?

In 1978/79, Earth, Wind and Fire took September to the Top 10 in the US, UK and Canada

In 2008, Swedish singer September brought an 80s Top 40 classic in Canada and the UK back into the Top 40 in the UK and Canada

Don't know.

A bit more than two examples would be way more reliable ;)

I got married in September - that was a big change

Usually the first week of September is August Hangover.  The true September month doesn't start until the second week of September and last until the 3rd-4th week.  By the 4th week, a lot of events happen to foreshadow October.

I still hate early September because it reminds me of going back to school.  I hated school.  I mean, I loved learning, but school was a place where bastards multiplied and learning was scant.

I hate September because that's when the kids go back to school but then I like September cause the summer is over and you have all those nice cool nights, you can leave the windows wide open.

A big part of September as a "changing" month has to do with television. In addition to the premiere of new TV shows, changes are normally made to existing series in order to give those shows a new direction. The fall fashions that had been previewed since July become fully evident as the weather cools. Also, social offerings usually resume after a summer hiatus and usually plan ahead with the changes for the coming year. Let's not forget September of 1979 when disco music rapidly faded from the charts. March would be the other month that would be changable with midseason TV shows, spring fashions, and often the first big movie of the year (In 2012, it was Hunger Games).

There are songs that I associate with September.  Urge for Going, The Circle Game, California Dreaming, Catch the Wind, Cast Your Fate to the Wind, People Are Strange, Season of the Witch, Forever Autumn  They all go along with the coming gray of winter.

September is also the month that we say goodbye to Summer.

I'd say anyone who is a Virgo is totally a September's kid, which spans between those born in August 23/24 to September 22/23.  Anyone born after the 23rd is not really a September's kid and is a Libra or October's kid.

The Zombie's Time of The Season has a autumn vibe to me, the same with a lot of The Doors '67 work(especially Strange Days).
