Subject: Canadian movies - Did anyone see these?

Written By: whistledog on 10/07/12 at 10:15 pm

I always wonder about Canadian movies, on how much exposure some of them get outside of Canada, especially ones that star American or Foreign actors.  Here's a few.  Anyone seen any of these?

Videodrome (1983)
starring James Woods and Deborah Harry

The Boy in Blue (1986)
starring Nicolas Cage, David Naughton and Christopher Plummer

Men With Brooms (2002)
starring Paul Gross and Leslie Nielsen

Foolproof (2003)
starring Ryan Reynolds and David Suchet

Bon Cop, Bad Cop (2006)
starring Colm Feore

I highly recommend "Why Shoot the Teacher" with Bud Cort and Samantha Eggar.
It's about a kid from Ottawa in the Depression who gets a job teaching school out in the boonies of Saskatchewan.

My favourite Canadian film of all time is Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. I also like Cube, a sci-fi from 1998.

That was a good movie, but not a Canadian film, despite the appearance of several Canadian actors  It was produced by Universal Pictures

Technically I guess it's American, but being it totally reps Toronto. I've even been to Trinity Bellwoods and the Pizza Pizza across from Honest Ed's I think it has Canuck credibility.  :) It feels like a Canadian movie too, if that makes any sense (probably doesn't).

This one we saw at the theaters. A group of 12 or 15 of us went to see it, half of us were drunk and making comments throught the whole film, and we giggled, and giggled.  Looking back, we were quite immature (21 or 22 years old, what else do you expect at that age  ;D) and I pity the people who were around us, their movie experience was ruined.

Silent movies, in black and white. Movie length is 30 to 35 seconds. You trade the b&W film and rental cameras to us for Maple Syrup.  Many Canadian actors want to be as good as Rudolph Valentino. Is he still the #1 box office draw?

Actually, William Powell is all the rage right now.
