Subject: Meaningful, moving songs

Written By: amjikloviet on 01/15/13 at 2:51 pm

Have you ever heard a song, and it was so meaningful and moving that it actually means something? And you listen to it then it makes you think about the lyrics, story and message behind it?...or maybe the song has no lyrics and is just a meaningful instrumental?

This happened to me with Tracy Chapman's song "Fast car". I remember hearing this song in the late '80s when it came out but I was too young to understand the meaning of the lyrics and the song then. I never heard it again until recently, and it was a completely different experience. It almost brought me to tears.

It also happens when I listen to "The Moonlight Sonata(First movement)" by Beethoven. Even though the song does not have any lyrics, there is a lot going on in it.

Other songs that I find are very meaningful:

~ Crystal blue persuasion by Tommy James and the Shondells(I like this song, it has a very positive message.)
~ Bonnet in the morning by Sally
~ Sunrise, Sunset by Sally
~ I don't believe in hate by Amber

This has long been one of my favorite old-school classic rock albums but the other night I was listening to National Acrobat and really kinda made out the lyrics for the first time, it gets kinda doggerelly in parts in that usual Ozzy Osbourne way but it suddenly struck me as very heavy stuff, Ozzy speaking kinda as God or as the universal unknown promising the permanency of the soul.

I am the world that hides
The universal secret of all time
Destruction of the empty spaces
Is my one and only crime
I've lived a thousand times
I found out what it means to be believed
The thoughts and images
The unborn child that never was conceived

When little worlds collide
I'm trapped inside my embryonic cell
And flashing memories
Are cast into the never ending well
The name that scorns the face
The child that never sees the cause of man
The deathly darkness that
Belies the fate of those who never ran

You got to believe me
I'm talking to you

Well I know it's hard for you
To know the reason why
And I know you'll understand
More when it's time to die
Don't believe the life you have
Will be the only one
You have to let your body sleep
To let your soul live on

I want you to listen
I'm trying to get through

Love has given life to you
And now it's your concern
Unseen eyes of inner life
Will make your soul return
Still I look but not to touch
The seeds of life are sown
Curtain of the future falls
The secret stays unknown

Just remember love is life
And hate is living death
Treat your life for what it's worth
And live for every breath
Looking back I've lived and learned
But now I'm wondering
Here I wait and only guess
What this next life will bring

So do I. :)

There have been other great mentions on this thread too.

One that I have thought of as "meaningful, moving" is "I Believe" by Blessid Union Of Souls (1995); it addresses social problems in the world.

Dear Mama - 2Pac
Through the Rain - Mariah Carey

There was a time in my life when I would want to hear such songs, if I needed a good cry. Particularly when someone says or does something that upsets me. "Out Of My Head" by Fastball, from 1999, comes to mind.
