Subject: TV Shows/Movies you feel have rerun abuse

Written By: yelimsexa on 01/31/13 at 1:02 pm

Sometimes, too much of a good thing can make something stale. Take a bunch of syndicated TV programming for example, where with the multiple timeslots and limited episode leases causes the same episodes over and over again to appear so much that you might as well forget about it. Children's programming is especially suspect since kids won't understand what a rerun is, which is why shows like Spongebob keeping getting high ratings despite airing a series' worth of content in just a few weeks, and that show has around 200 episodes! One genre that will never get this is Soap Operas, where for a few exceptions, keep airing new product or are off the air. Its similar to how certain radio stations wear out the same songs on the same crammed playlist that what were once wonderful songs one year become songs that nobody wants to hear ever again.

I think this is becoming more of a problem lately due to cable channels and their strange desire to show long marathons of syndicated shows everyday. Remember when marathons of shows you liked used to actually be special occurrences? Well, that's not the case anymore.

To me, the worst offender of this is USA. They show 12 HOUR marathons of either NCIS or Law & Order pretty much every single day of the week. As you alluded to, Nickelodeon has gotten into the nasty habit of showing four hour Spongebob marathons every afternoon. Hell, even the History Channel has been doing this with Pawn Stars lately.

I've seen all the Law & Orders a zillion times.  Is it NCIS with the goth forensic pathologist?  What kind of crap is that?
As for the History Channel, sorry but three hillbillies staring at an old washing machine is not history!  When did History become the Deliverance channel?

They don't show it much anymore, but 15-20 years ago this was the king of Saturday afternoon TV movies:
