Subject: state songs

Now here's a topic everyone will enjoy, just thought of this the other day and I thought I'd post it on here. You can pick songs with state names in it, in all different eras, Here's an example:

California Love- 2Pac

I could be wrong but isn't New York, New York about the city? Not the state???  :D

California Here I Come - Al Jolson

California Dreamin' - mamas & the papas

Goin back to Cali - ll cool j

California Here We Come - Phantom Planets

Lest I seem a little biased for my state I will add

Sweet Home Alabama - ( that was by lynard skynard right??)

I wanna also say  Georgia on my mind - ray Charles but I'm not entirely sure it isn't a song about a woman named Georgia  :D    Guess it could go both ways.

Yes it is...but it mentions the state too! It's a state that just happens to have an eponymous city.

Lots of songs contain the state of California in the title; some of them not yet mentioned include:

"California Girls" by the Beach Boys (later covered by David Lee Roth)
"California Gurls" by Katy Perry
"Dani California" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

There's also the title song from the musical Oklahoma!, composed by Rodgers & Hammerstein.

The one I love is not on YouTube. It is called the Vermont Waltz.

You can hear a snippet of it here:

3 of these songs (you can guess which ones :D ;D ;D ;D ) I have used in a slideshow about Vermont plus the state song "These Green Mountains".

Two songs about the state of Texas that come to mind:

"Deep In The Heart Of Texas", written by June Hershey and Don Swander in 1941... has been recorded by various performers, including Perry Como, Gene Autry (whose performance of the song in the 1942 film Heart of the Rio Grande may be the best-known version), Dale Evans and Roy Rogers, Ray Charles, Hank Thompson, Bob Grant, George Strait, and Nickel Creek.

"All My Exes Live In Texas", by George Strait.

Lyrically, these songs are not about the state, but Virginia is a state, so you never know.  Frank Sinatra once put out an album called L.A. is my Lady lol

Eddie Mottau: Old New Hampshire

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEaU4OpI6oI

Funny story.  I was actually looking for the state anthem, also called "Old New Hampshire."
But here's this guy Eddie Mottau.  He was a session musician with some heavy hitters (John Lennon, Peter, Paul & Mary, etc.), and he bought a place nearby us in NH with the dough he made.  The guy on the album cover is Eddie, the kid is Eddie, Jr., and Eddie, Jr., and I started out in the same Kindergarten class.  Went to the same Waldorf school.  My sister was also close friends with his older sister, Christine.  When Eddie, Sr., wasn't making music, he was a carpenter.  Eddie, Jr., is also a carpenter and a folk-rock musician today.  Christine does something chic and fabulous in Manhattan, can't remember what exactly.  Eddie, Sr., is still kicking around somewhere.  He's lucky made it to fifty.  He was quite the lost weekend drive the van over a cliff party animal!
