Subject: Songs that you personally find sad.

Written By: Katluver on 09/16/13 at 1:14 pm

Hope this thread doesn't make me come across as emo, but I just heard Bread's "Everything I Own", which I haven't heard in awhile. A song not necessarily about the loss of a romantic partner, but could be anybody in your life. Anyway, I felt like crying when I was listening to it. I've decided to share other songs that give me the sniffles:

All By Myself--Eric Carmen
Days Go BY--Dirty Vegas
In the Ghetto--Elvis Presley
The Kids Aren't Alright--Offspring (I know this one sounds a little weird but I find it a little heartbreaking listening to how those kids became failures)
Scarborough Fair--Simon and Garfunkel
The Scientist--Coldplay (reminds me of that last scene in Wicker Park)

I'm sure there are other songs that I forgot to list, but I think Bread's takes the cake.

Wow, I can think of so many here that fits the thread.

Terry Jacks ~ If you go away
Genesis ~ Ripples
King Crimson ~ Epitaph
Gilbert O’Sullivan ~ Alone Again Naturally
Janis Ian ~ At Seventeen
Eric Clapton ~ Tears in heaven
10CC ~ I'm not in love
Bread ~ If
Harry Nilsson ~ Without you.

In fact Harry had other lesser known sad songs. They are:

It is Tomas on my avatar. I have been madly in love with him since March 1980 when I saw his picture in a fan magazine of Abba.

His records are unavailable in Britain so I have to download them from online. His music is as good as his looks. And he still looks good now at 61. His parents are both still alive, they are former teachers (in fact his father was a principal).

You, sir, have made my day.

Anytime Justin Bieber opens his mouth, a tiny piece of me dies.  ;)

But seriously, I cannot listen to "Gone too Soon" by Michael Jackson. I physically cannot. Not because he died, I cried when he was still kicking and married to Lisa Marie over this. It's so sad, melancholy and morose and he chokes up at the end...I can't. Like that's what I play when I need to whip up tears for any reason. Even when MJ Radio plays it, I pull OUT my ear buds.

Wake Me Up,When September Ends by Green Day does something to me. It's a very poingnant tune and kind of off-base with what you'd hear from a rock band. But this was like my cry-my-eyes-out anthem when I went through my rock/metal phase.

Lying in my bed
hearing the clock tick
can't think of you
caught up in circles
confusion is nothing new

Flash back to warm nights
almost left behind
suitcase around me
time after sometimes you'll picture me
I'm walking too far ahead
you're calling to me I can't hear
what you said.

Then you said go slow
I'll fall behind
the second hand unwinds

If you're lost you can look
and you will find me
time after time
If you fall I will catch you
I'll be waiting
time after time

After my picture stands
in darkness I started to cry
watching through windows
you're wondering if I'm okay?

Secrets stolen
from deep inside
the drum beat
sounds of time

If you're lost you can look
and you will find me
time after time
If you fall I will catch you
I'll be waiting time after time

You said go slow
I'll fall behind
the second hand unwinds

If you're lost you can look
and you will find me
time after time
If you fall I will catch you
I'll be waiting
time after time

If you're lost you can look

True Colors is another one of those tearjerkers of hers.  :)

You with the sad eyes
Don't be discouraged
Oh I realize
It's hard to take courage
In a world full of people
You can lose sight of it all
And the darkness inside you
Can make you feel so small

But I see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

Show me a smile then,
Don't be unhappy, can't remember
When I last saw you laughing
If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can bear
You call me up
Because you know I'll be there

And I'll see your true colors
Shining through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful,
Like a rainbow

"You Raise Me Up" is a song that was originally composed by Secret Garden's Rolf Løvland and the lyrics by Brendan Graham. In 2003, David Foster decided to produce the song after being introduced to it by Frank Petrone of peermusic, the song's publisher. He chose the up-and-coming Josh Groban to record the song, which was accompanied by the great tenor Craig Von Vennik of the Establishment. Groban's version made it to #1 on the Billboard adult contemporary chart in early 2004 and remained there for six weeks. This version also peaked at #73 on the Billboard Hot 100, his first single to do so, and was nominated for a 2005 Grammy award. The song was written by and for Løvland himself and performed for the very first time at the funeral of Løvland's mother.

Yep good choice. I'm gonna add any slow track by Karen Carpenter - her voice just had that melancholic feel; and also the early Whitney Houston ballads from her first two albums.

Oh and this by Toni Braxton - kinda sappy but at the time it was good...
