These four were popular in southern California, too. I particularly liked Circuit City and Borders. :)

We had Borders here in the UK, but they shutdown several years back. I found the store more relaxed than others of its kind.

I remember when they shut down in 2011; it was kinda sad. But we had to use up our giftcards, and found a great way to do so.

CIRCUIT CITY was my place! It hits me hard to this day but I still miss it!

I also miss Blockbuster as well when renting hard copies was a huge thing before digital outlets and social media started taking over.

Never used Blockbuster myself, but their shops were all a plenty over here.

I miss Woolco.

Here in Canada, Toys "R" Us did not exist until 1984 and the one in my city did not open until the early 90s, so when I was a kid in the 80s, the Woolco Toy Department was heaven and I loved it!

For you folks in the States, Woolco closed down in 1982, but in Canada, it stayed alive until 1994 when they all (or at least most of them) became Wal-Mart stores

Yep, I enjoyed renting movies from there back in the day.
