Subject: VH1's I Love The... Series

Written By: Ripley on 03/21/16 at 10:13 am

VH1 did their own version of the British series. In each episode they had celebrities talk about pop culture. There were fun segments as well. Here is the list.

I Love the '80s (2002)
I Love the '70s (2003)
I Love the '80s Strikes Back (2003)
I Love the '90s (2004)
I Love the '90s: Part Deux (2005)
I Love the '80s 3-D (2005)
I Love the Holidays (2005)
I Love Toys (2006)
I Love the '70s: Volume 2 (2006)
I Love the New Millennium (2008)
Best of I Love the… (2010)
I Love the 2000s (2014)

Almost all of these were done far too early. To do an "I Love the '90s" series in 2004 when the '90s were considered uncool at the time is not a smart move. It really would have been best to do it in 2014, when "I Love the 2000s" debuted, which should have never happened, as well as "I Love the New Millennium" in 2008. WTH?!?!

I agree on I Love The New Millennium. That work work best in 2020. Two decades into it.

They shouldn't do an "I Love the New Millennium" special during 2008. We weren't even done with the 2000s when it aired.

I know, I thought that was kinda stupid (for lack of a better word). I guess they were in a hurry to start on it or something? ::)

But I know later on they finally did an "I Love the 2000s" series in the 2010s, as mentioned above.

I watched I Love the '80s all the time when I was going through my nostalgia phase back in the mid '00s. It was really bizarre when they started doing I Love the '90s in '04 and you had people sitting around "reminiscing" about stuff that had just happened a few years earlier.

This was particularly awkward during the 1999 episode. That'd be like doing a show looking back nostalgically on 2011 today. ::)

Who would find 2011 as nostalgic now? It seems modern to everybody, including me.

I know; after all, that was only five years ago. I'd give it a few more years, at least.

I wouldn't be nostalgic over 2011 until 2022, when early 2010s nostalgia would start to rise on the Internet.

Eh. It wasn't really that special anyways. It was also pretty boring to me.

The whole 2010's decade shouldn't be nostalgic until the 2030's, at least. Give at least 20 years for the 2010's to become retro.

I watched all the I Love The 80s Ones. (The first once even had Apollonia in it!) It was just fun to bask in the glow of the best decade of the century!
And I'd wear neon for about a week after seeing the show.  ;D

More or less what I was thinking. Or maybe even later. just a thought.

True. This decade seems too recent to be worth nostalgic.

The ones about the '70s and '80s were the best, but even the '90s aren't too bad, especially watching it today compared to when the decade was still in the rear-view mirror, and honestly the one about the Millenium in 2008 is a good primary source since the decade was still in progress. CNN believe it or not is finally doing its own series about the Eighties, the decade it was launched, starting this Thursday after doing the sixties/seventies several months ago. However, my Baby Boom parents still view that decade as "recent" despite being as old today as to what the 1950s were then, though you can't deny how much the world has changed since then given that the median person on this planet was born in that decade. If you're looking for a nice summary in an hour of the year's key events without the need of searching or reading for a comprehensive list, VH1's "I Love The..." series is good for you.

Other "Year in review" shows that I've seen that take place right as or right after a year ends range from decent to a bit too broad. For example, on CBS a 90-minute special on 1977 in entertainment right after the year ended was pretty good that covered everything from TV to Star Wars to Saturday Night Fever to Barry Manilow to the Sex Pistols to Farrah Fawcett along with celebrity passings ('77 was a dire year where we lost Bing Crosby, Joan Crawford, Elvis, Groucho, and Charlie Chaplin). However, the following year for 1978 a 60-minute special about Rona Elliott taking a look back at '78 was way too broad and only covered a couple movies and a BRIEF look at the disco craze along with interviews with a couple people that took up the majority of the show. MTV's "Year in Rock" specials in the '80s/'90s were pretty good however for a musical perspective along with Entertainment Tonight usually doing a special year in review episode at the end of the year (along with a special about 1968 produced in 1988, which I thought was well done and its up on Dailymotion!)

TBH, it's like the creators of this CD were such in a rush for the '90s to finish.
