I just heard the first song for the first time this month on a Fallout 4 radio mod  ;D
I know the second, because it was a part of one my elementary school plays. They are definitely really similar.

Here are a few that immediately come to my mind:

What I Like About You / The Romantics
R.O.C.K. in the USA / John Cougar Mellencamp

That's the Way of the World / Earth, Wind & Fire
It Ain't Over Til It's Over / Lenny Kravitz

Superstition / Stevie Wonder
Sledgehammer / Peter Gabriel

Bad Medicine / Bon Jovi
Cigarettes & Alcohol / Oasis (you'd probably never expect an Oasis song to sound anything like a hair metal-era Bon Jovi one, but that's exactly the case here!)

Runaway / Janet Jackson
Arms Around the World / Louise

I Want It That Way / Backstreet Boys
Amazing / Westlife

Tiny Dancer / Elton John
Jungleland / Bruce Springsteen

Sweet Home Alabama / Lynyrd Skynyrd
Take the Money and Run / The Steve Miller Band

I think it even went to court and Vanilla Ice was found guilty of sampling the beat from Queen without their consent.

It has been suggested that the chords and melodic structure of "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" bear more than a passing resemblance to the traditional English ballad "Skewball", specifically the 1963 rendition (titled "Stewball") by Peter, Paul and Mary, itself based on the classical version recorded during the early 1940s by folk singer Woody Guthrie.

Maybe this one's a bit of a stretch, but I think this forgotten cheese fest from the early 60s...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laEwOj5qXNo

Sounds quite a lot like this dose of wackiness from the late 80s...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lg_PNKah1ow

I know there are probably a fair number of show tunes that are composed in the same basic musical style as the former, but especially with such a tongue-and-cheek tone, not to mention the main hook's overall construction, I can't help but think of the biggest earworm the white New York hip hop/punk trio ever put out whenever I hear it. I don't think many people have drawn the connection because the Sue Thompson song is really obscure, but the similarities to the Beastie Boys definitely surprised me regardless.

Here's another perhaps unusual early 60s/80s (or technically, mid-70s) comparison:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-OTd7DXjlo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1xOe4GRyebo

Even the sax solo on the Crystals number sounds just like something Clarence Clemons would have performed on one of the E Street Band's set pieces.

Some of the production of "It Ain't It Over Till Its Over" by Lenny Kravitz(1991) and "House Of Love"  by Amy Grant and Vince Gill(1994) sound very very similar.

I thought "Seasons Change" by Expose(1988) is kinda connected with Heart's 1985 hit "These Dreams". "These Dreams" is more of a pop-rock ballad where "Seasons Change" is more of a pop ballad.

"Heartbeat Song" by Kelly Clarkson (2015) has many melodic similarities to "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World (2002), both in the verses AND in the chorus.  Members of the band Jimmy Eat World were later credited with having co-written "Heartbeat Song."

I have noticed that the chorus of "She Will Be Loved" by Maroon 5 (2004) sounds very similar in structure and melody to the bridge of "The Flame" by Cheap Trick (1988). In turn, the opening guitar chords of "The Flame" sound almost identical to those of "Nature's Way" by Spirit (1971)! :D :o

Earth Angel rhythm-  I have but it's taking me forever to look at and recall what I whote down

I have the guitar riff for Magic mn and have no problem hearing the words.

Know Please Mr. Poastman but cant hear it now and think  first heard it on The Real Ghostbusters as a kid and probably never heard what tone the song really is in.

I don't know Heaven Help Me and couldn't pick up the words, think I got the guitar riff.

Stopped at Listen to your heart  Lot of songs I know and heard fery little of if any but seem to hear the guitar well.

I got to get lunch.

anyway that's page 1  I think I cant pick up mid range sounds because my implant isn't or may not be able to pick up every tone.

I do the best with things like Heart and such that have something alto range and soprano range.

I remember hearing "Steal Away" when I was in Pre-School. The song sounds like one of those 70's/80's cliffhangers if you will. I think the vocals sound more 70's(but barely) while the production is leaning towards the 80's. "Steal Away" is a haunting song because of the production mostly. I remember seeing Robbie Dupree on VH1 in the early 2000's having to do with this one-hit wonder status I think. He seemed like a nice guy and he was talking like hey I was lucky to have one hit!

The comparisons don't go any further, but the following songs have pretty similar chorus melodies to each other.

Straight Up / Paula Abdul:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=El1kgCqD7Xk

Bat Country / Avenged Sevenfold:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHS3qJdxefY

Yeah, I know everything else is completely different between these two, but the similar progression, shared key, and especially those identifiable "oh, oh, oh's" make it impossible for me to hear one song without thinking about the other. I'd love to see some sort of mashup between these two, just for curiosity's sake.

- - - - - - - -

Good for Me / Amy Grant:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PddJStucKQ

I'm Over You / Martine McCutcheon:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsVY9X7yeEw

Very few pop songs follow this specific type of progression, so when you not only copy it, but do so in the same key, the parallels are immediately evident. I'm guessing the reason few people have made this comparison is because "Good for Me" wasn't popular anywhere besides the US and "I'm Over You" wasn't known outside of the British Isles.

- - - - - - - -

Be Happy / Mary J. Blige:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvGbmEuV_lA

Imagination / Tamia:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybpqUJ-i2zM

They're not even hiding this one. A late 90s beat instead of a mid-90s one can only disguise so much.

these songs on page 4 so far seem to be in my mushed alto range and maybe also have drums that may make it harder to pick up what's being said.  Cant wait to see how well I can hear in my right ear still.  I have a real lousy hearing aid that doesn't seem to work that we'll be taking to get fixed up when we see the right people.  I also have a pocket talker that I no longer have headphones or an ear bud for.  Joel was adjusting it and was able to get me to hear words through it.  I heard mom at a little higher of a tone then usual and Joel said because it needs adjusting.  Cool, something that can be adjusted at home and not implanted in my brain.

This pocket tacker is box like think that can be held or clipped on to something and It has a microphone on it.  You can plug earbuds or headphones in them.

Get my right ear  working and only thing I'll have to worry about is still having metal in my head.

Yes, believe it or not, "Brave" was not the song Katy Perry's "Roar" was ultimately ripping off in the first place.

I would have thought "Roar", since there is a similarity between that one and "Brave."

I don't know "Something Beautiful", however.

The first line of "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)" by Christopher Cross (1981) sounds very melodically similar to "Killing Me Softly With His Song" by Roberta Flack" (1973).

Arthur's Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWR56mOGu14
first line, around 0:15 to 0:17

Killing Me Softly with His Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMMUXbt0xOc
beginning, first two seconds

There might be at least one slight difference, particularly on the last note...but aside from that (on that particular portion in the respective songs), it is pretty much the same.

Pretty sure the similarities between these two songs aren't coincidental, because Sho'nuff Records was associated with both songs.

It worked though, Oh released as a single in March 2005 and ended up peaking at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, it also made it to number 21 on the Billboard 2005 Year End List. Do It To It released in March 2006, peaked at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and made it to number 56 on the Billboard 2006 Year End List.

In another thread very similar to this one, I mentioned "Shape Of You" by Ed Sheeran and "Cheap Thrills" by Sia. They have similar sounding intros.

"Havana" by Camila Cabello (2017) seems to have very similar instrumentation as "Smooth" by Santana ft. Rob Thomas (1999).

Much of the melody of "Tom's Diner" by Suzanne Vega seems similar to that in the verses of "Tempted" by Squeeze (particularly the lines that mention the word 'reflection').

However, Suzanne actually first wrote "Tom's Diner" way back in 1981, the same year that "Tempted" was a hit.

This here was a novelty hit from Switzerland that came out back in 1985. I'm sure Gary Larson would've wept in awe if he was aware of it. A year later, this song's production was almost literally cut-and-pasted for this track from Top Gun...

"Muh!," of course, wasn't an international success, so most people never would've picked up on the Miami Sound Machine song's uncanny resemblance to it, but since it reached #2 in its native Switzerland, I wonder how many Swiss picked up on the similarities back when Top Gun was released.
