Subject: How different would your life be if you were born a year later?

Written By: HazelBlue99 on 10/09/16 at 11:34 pm

I was thinking about this when I read through the "born earlier" thread and I thought it would be pretty interesting to discuss about. If I was born a year later, I would have been born in March 2000. If I was born a year later:

My childhood would have started in 2003, not 2002.
I wouldn't have been able to remember 2001, not unless there was a slim possibility of remembering something from Late 2001.
2004 would be the first year that I would have vivid memories, not 2003.
I would have started pre-school in 2004, not 2003.
There's a good possibility that I might have started primary/elementary school in 2006, instead of 2005.
I wouldn't be a hybrid Mid/Late 2000's kid, because I would have been 7-9 between 2007-2009 respectively.
I wouldn't have been born in the 90s!
Generally speaking, I could have been considered to be an Early 2010s kid, because I would have been 10-12 between 2010-2012 respectively.

If I were born a year later, in December 2000:

I would've been 9 months old during 9/11, instead of being a year and 9 months old.
I would've started elementary school during the 2005-06 school year, instead of 2004-05.
I would've been more of an early 2010s kid, since I would've been 9-11 between the majority of 2010 to 2012.
I would've been 9 at the end of the 2000s, instead of 10.
I would've been 6 and a half when I discovered YouTube.

I have a cousin born a year and five days later, and a brother born one year and two weeks later. We're like peas in a pod, not much of a difference tbh. The only thing I can think about for being born 1994 is that I would still be in elementary school in the mid-2000s, and that I wouldn't at all be a mid-2000s teen. I would probably only remember the Y2K era of the '90s, instead of bits of 1997/1998 like I do right now.

If i was born in 1991
my first memories could have happened in 1994
my core childhood would have ended in 2002 when i turned 11
i would become a teenager in 2004 and that would end in 2011
i would have been 10 years old on 9/11

Wow... Things get a little interesting. If I were born on October of 1996, then? This might have went down.

Nintendo 64 would have actually STILL been my first console since it was still in it's peak in 2000. :o ;)
I would have gotten into PS2 in 2003-04 season.
Classic VHS collection would have been the same.
XBOX 360 would have been the last childhood console... :o
1999 would have been my first memory. 2001 would be when my memories become crystal.
I'd barely recall the 2000 Chicago trip
I wouldn't be as much of a fan of Michael Jordan.
I'd barely even recall the greatest show on turf St. Louis Rams.
The 2006 World Series would have been the first time I would have been old enough to truly enjoy a Missouri team win a championship.
I would have first been exposed to WWE and wrestling in general in 2002 when their Ruthless Aggression era phase started. :o
I'd be the ultimate early-mid 2000s kid hybrid.
I'd be more of a true 2000s kid, with hardly any 90s influence.
I wouldn't have any peak kid years in the 20th century.
I'd be more of an early-mid 10s teen, than a plain early 10s teen.
I would have graduated HS in 2015
I would leave college in either fall 2018 or spring 2019.
I'd hardly even recall the time when 9/11 happened... :o I would have been like 4 1/2. 8-P
I would like the City era of CN even more. But i'd still prefer the powerhouse era
2002 until early 2007 would have been my main years watching the original Toonami. I would have been more of a TOM 3 era kid. :o
Late 2001 until mid 2007 would have been my main years watching CN
Late 2000 until mid 2007 would have been my main years watching Nick
I'd hardly even recall Kids WB's golden age.
I' would have caught the tail end of Zoog Disney since it ended in mid 2002
I'd also catch the VERY end of One Saturday Morning and Fox Kids.
My connection to Pokemania wouldn't have been as strong.
I would have liked Yu gi oh more than Pokemon possibly.
Overall, I wouldn't have that much of a connection with the Y2K era kids fads. I would be kinda too young.
Only the Late 2001-2003 portion of the early 00s would have been my prime childhood.
I would have started school in a post 9/11 world.
2006-07 would have been when I started to age out of the kiddy stuff.
The final movie I'd truly associate with my childhood in terms of nostalgia would be Ratatouille.
I would be still a minor right now ;D  :(
I'd probably feel closer to early 00s born than late 80s born. :o
I would have still been a kid when the sift of 2008-09 happened.

I know it's just a year. But DAMN! :D ;D What an impact that would have had.

If I were born in 1981, then I would've graduated High school in 1999, voted in an election for the first time in 2000...and maybe had different experiences than I did.

My high school years would've been evenly spent during the early 2010's & mid 2010's.

Just like if I was born a year earlier, being born a year later means a different set of friends which would've changed my background.

My memories of the early 2000's would have been more blurry.

I would have missed out on my 6th grade math teacher and 10th grade Spanish II teacher, both of them who were damn hot/fine at the time and made the classes extremely entertaining, because when I had them they were in their final years before quitting/transferring to another school.

I would have probably missed out on Planet Hot Wheels and maybe get into Club Penguin.

the 2016 election would still be my first election, but the 2 year local or state voting thing that goes on I wouldn't have done in 2014, since 2014 is the first time ever I voted for something period even though it wasn't an election.

I would have gotten my learner's permit in 2012 instead of 2011, and gotten my driver's license in 2013 instead of 2012.

10 years

Imaging myself as being born in 2009 is just tremendously sad, to be frankly honest. And for the fact that most of these kids today are possible TTG fanboys, it would make my elementary school life a living hell if I were one of them.

If i were born in 2000
No memories of the 1900s or the early 2000s
Vhs would be a retro gadget to me
I would be 16 years old and i would have so far spent most of my time in school during the time Obama was president. I would have had a more education in math due to common core and i would have experienced the school lunch changes Michelle Obama instituted.
I would have nostalgia towards cartoons like Phineas and Ferb, Wayside School,  The Penguins of Madagascar, Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends and Chowder.
I would have nostalgia towards shows like Icarly, Neds Declassified the Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Hanna Montana, That So Raven and Wizards of Waverly Place
I would have had my first experience watching Youtube in elementary school.
I would have wanted a Smartphone by age 11 due to peers and friends having them.

If I'd been born in 1988 I honestly don't think my life would've been any different than it turned out to be. My memories would begin in 1991-92 instead of 1990-91, and I would've started school in 1993 instead of 1992, but that's about it.

10 years is a whole 'nother animal, though. If I had been born in 1997, my life experiences would be pretty much 100% different than they are right now.

Let's see...

I would have very few memories of the 1990's.
I would have no recollection of the pre-internet age.
I probably wouldn't remember 9/11.
I wouldn't have started school until 2002.
I would not have been a gamer during the 8-bit or 16-bit eras.
The N64 or PS1 would probably have been my first console.
I'd still be in college now.
My favorite childhood cartoons would've been Spongebob, The Proud Family and Kim Possible instead of Doug, Rocko and Darkwing Duck.
My early childhood years would've been in Bill Clinton's second term instead of the Reagan/Bush era.
George W. Bush would've been the President of my childhood instead of Bill Clinton.
My formative years would've been during the Obama years as opposed to the GWB years.
I would've started school after Columbine and had my whole school career during the "Zero Tolerance" era.
I would have no memories of pre-Windows 95 computing.

If I was born in 2003:
I would be mostly an early 2010's kid
I wouldn't vividly remember 2006
My earliest but vague memories would probably be in 2006
I would be a freshman instead of a sophomore right now
Most of my childhood memories would be from the '10's
I would graduate HS in 2021

If I was born in February 2001:
I would have never been alive in the 20th century.
I would have never been in my childood during the early 2000s as it would have then started in 2004.
I would have much less memories from the early 2000s.
I would have only been 8 months old in 911.
I would have graduated High School in 2018.

If I was born in June 2003:
I would've started school in late 2008
I wouldn't have any vivid memory of the mid-2000's.
I would've spent most of my childhood in the early 2010's rather than being equally both late 2000's and early 2010's.
I'd be a freshman in high school and in the C/O 2021
2007 would be the first year I would vividly remember
Technically speaking, I would've been born in the mid-2000's (since the mid-2000's numerically speaking starts in May 2003)
I'd still be 14 years old currently.

If I was born in January 2003

I wouldn't have even been conceived during 9/11.

I wouldn't be able to vote in the 2020 U.S. Election.

I would still be a freshman.

I wouldn't have gotten a Gameboy Advance SP for my 6th birthday, because it was discontinued sometime in 2008.

I would've spent even less of my core childhood in the 2000s.

I wouldn't be old enough to drive or get a job yet.

I would've been 12 in 2015 and would've still been an underage user of Facebook and YouTube up until the start of 2016.

If I was born in January 2000:

I'd be one of the absolute oldest 00's babies instead of one of the youngest 90's babies.

If we're sticking with how things have gone in my life, just making them one year later, I would've started school in late August 2006.

I'd also be graduating next year with the late 2000-2001 babies instead of this year with the late 1999-2000 ones, which means the friends I made in public school would've been different, which in turn would've made me a completely different person.

I would've turned 18 over a month ago.

I would consider what I see as my childhood to have been 2003-2013.

My earliest memories would've been in 2002 instead of 2001.

A bit of a weird question as I don't really see differences between 97 and 98 borns.
Maybe my oldest memory would be 2000 instead of 1999 when I started preschool in september that year.

They exist. I didn't think the "born 10 years after" one was very interesting since I'd still be too young but the "born 10 years earlier" one was interesting.

It was a bad era for the boards because those types of threads flooded the board "What if you were born 6 years earlier", "What if you were born 4 months later" etc. So don't go reviving all of them ;D

Well crap i would be born in 2005
I would possibly only remember 2009
I will be 12 right now and be 13 again  8-P
I would be in the 7th grade and be in the 8th grade later this year
I would have 0 memory of the pre iPhone world (even though I do have 0 memory of it)
And that's really it I guess.
Oh and also I would be born in 5/5/05 lol

If I was born in February 2000:
1.I'll be 00's babies
2.I'll be still studying in primary school for most of the early 2010's (2010~2012)
3.Technically I'm still a kid for most of the early 2010's (January 2010~early February 2013)
4.I just turned 18 (26 days ago)
5.My wouldn't span any core childhood year in the first half of 2000's (2005~2010/11)
6.I'm still a teenager when 2010's ended
