Subject: I think we need late 70s and early 80s nostalgia

Anyone else up for it? I think it's very underrated.

People are used to calling late 1979 through early 1982 a vacant period between the 70s and 80s, but there was actually a lot of great, overlooked stuff to come out of that era. New wave was at its finest, synthpop was on the rise and also in its golden age, arena-scoped pop songs were meeting more futuristic production, and walkmans were being sold for the first time. It was indeed a pretty cool period for popular culture, even though it's not my favorite, either.

So basically that 'grey' period from 1979 to 1982?? Count me in. What a great time for pop culture.
The Friday The 13th movie series was popular at the time, and horror was in one of its Golden Ages. I'm kind of 'meh' when it comes to 80's television in general, but Movies and music is fine.

I like a lot of songs that period because it had a lot of groundbreaking and cutting edge stuff. Sadly, people only seem to see the boring songs.

We already had 70s/early 80s nostalgia back in the 90s and early 2000s. That 70's Show was made during the late 90s and most people liked it for the 70s nostalgia it had.

There was a lot good stuff but that era was by far the worst part of the 80's. Things were still very preppy and conservative until 1984 came along and brightened things up.

Sure I'm up for it, there was a lot of rare funk and disco songs during that time.

That's one of them but I'm referring to rare funk and disco songs that were hardly ever heard before on the radio.

*bzzzzttt* Wrong. How can the era that gave us the Blues Brothers be the worst part of the 80s? 8)

I think earlier '80s were better for mainstream pop but the mid/late '80s was better for alternative and hip hop.

I'm more fond of mid/late 80's pop, really. The only genre I think was best in the early 80's was hardcore punk but even then I prefer the poppier stuff that came afterwards.

I didn't even mention post punk which was a spent force by 1986, the prime years for post punk was 1978 1984/1985.

The later 80s is when the gated reverb on the drums was very heavy, over the top I mean come on. Sounds like someone is trying to break in the door or something. ;D

The latest I'd say for post-punk is '84. Even New Wave, either '83 or '84. Hardcore, too. :P

That's a funny way to put it. ;D Reverb totally dominated the mid-late 80's but I totally have a soft spot for some of that stuff.
