For those in bold, you began school on Labor day in 2004? ??? and you started HS exactly 2 weeks before I did.

How did you start school at age 3? ???
Pre-school. Although, it was pretty much elementary because it was integrated with the school I attended.

Pre-school is not mandatory schooling though. Kindergarten is the start of mandatory/regular schooling. If we can put Pre-K....then I can do 2002 as well :P.

Oh, I know ;); however, the question was what was the world like when I began school which led me to that answer. I've been in that setting since that year. Besides, I started elementary early anyway since the preschool was integrated.

Sucks for you....so basically you were in school from 1996 until 2011 or 2012. Damn, that's 15-16 years.

It's weird that despite being in the same city/county we began school at different times through out the years. Maybe it had to do with us being in different school districts.

Sadly, I don't think there's any "one stop shop" where you can look it all up on a single website. I had to Google each individual item to find them all out on different sites. It was quite time consuming.

This is totally off topic, but since this is my topic I can go there. ;)

Do you remember the JFK assassination?

Impossible to forget. I was at school when President Kennedy was shot. The principal came into our classroom and told us the news and after that we were sent home. I was 7 at the time so I couldn't really grasp what was happening but I do remember my teacher crying and the whole class was just stunned into silence.

btw, I do not recall JFK's assassination, but do remember hearing Bobby Kennedy's assassination on a new report on the radio.

Yes I am old, but I am happy.

I would not describe it as that, just wait for when your bones start creaking every time you move.

I don't want to wait for that ;D.

Awesome recollections! In a way it's kind of a shame that the JFK assassination is moving so far back into the past. Now most of the people that were teenagers or older on that day are at the least in their 60s, and most are older than that. Quite a few of the key witnesses that were in Dealey Plaza have passed away in recent years, and none of the people who were in the presidential limousine with JFK when he was shot are still living. :\'(

Yeah....

Lyndon B. Johnson died in 1973
John Connally died in 1993
Jackie Kennedy died in 1994
Nellie Connally died in 2006

However, Clint Hill...the Secret Service agent that you saw spring up onto the presidential limousine and reach out to Jackie Kennedy.......is still alive. He's 85 :).

I would also add to that list the two Secret Service agents that were in the front seat of JFK's limo. Bill Greer, who was driving, and Roy Kellerman, who was in the passenger seat. They both died in the 1980's I believe.

But yeah I'm glad that Clint Hill is still alive and kicking. He was actually about the same age I am now back in 1963 (I think he was 32), and to think that he has lived such a long prosperous life after being involved in that tragic event is nice.

Clint Hill was born Jan. 4, 1932...so he was 31 years old on Nov. 22, 1963. However, being age 30 and 31 are essentially the same :P.

A thought provoking time, especially for the innocent young. This reminds me of the news footage of President Bush attending a school for a book reading at the time when 9/11 happened, and the confusion concerned.

Well, I know that Ronald Reagan was President of the United States. When I started preschool, he was running for reelection. A year later, when I started kindergarten, he was into his second term.

"What's Love Got To Do With It" by Tina Turner was the #1 song in the U.S. in September of 1984 (the month I started preschool).
A year later, it was "St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion)" by John Parr (September 1985).

elementary school:
President of the United States: Gerald Ford
#1 Movie: Jaws
#1 Song: Rhinestone Cowboy -Glen Campbell -still hate this song. My Aunt who was more like a big sister and just a few years my senior, made me wear a big cowboy hat and 'perform' it and Long Tall Texan by the Beach Boys in front of the grown ups after she requested it from the local radio station.
#1 TV Show: All in the Family -I didn't see this show until I was a bit older because my G'pa didn't like it  ;D
#1 College Football Team: Oklahoma Sooners
Number of Sites on the World Wide Web: Al Gore hadn't invented it yet I don't think
Price of a Gallon of Gas: 57 cents
Most Popular Video games: Gun Fight or Shark Jaws
Top News Stories: A day or so after my first day of school, Squeaky Fromme attempted to assassinate Pres. Ford. I remember the grown ups talking about it when I was trying to show my Grandma the picture that I had colored of the Letter People Mr B (Beautiful Buttons).

middle school the school I attended had switched from JR High format to Middle school that year, so we got to go with the big kids 'early'
President of the United States: Ronald Reagan
#1 Movie: Raiders of the Lost Ark
#1 Song: Endless Love- Diana Ross and Lionel Richie was the top mainstream, but at this point I was (mostly) listening to all of the New Wave and alternative that I could get my hands on- which wasn't a wide variety but I loved what I could get.
#1 TV Show: Dallas
#1 College Football Team: honestly no clue
Number of Sites on the World Wide Web: if Al had invented it by then I didn't know anything about it.
Price of a Gallon of Gas: $1.22 to $1.31 depending upon which reporting source you trust.
Most Popular Video games: Donkey Kong, Galaga, Ms PacMan - Ms Pacman was my personal favorite
Top News Stories:  Sandra Day O'connor was appointed that spring and would be sworn in at the end of the month.

High School
President of the United States: still Ronald Reagan
#1 Movie: TightRope. I don't remember this film at all. From this year I remember GhostBusters best.
#1 Song: What's Love Got to Do With It Tina Turner. Nothing against Tina because she's fabulous, but by this time I was completely in love with David Bowie by then, and Blue Jean came out that fall. I wore out the VHS dub I made of both the nusic video and the Jazzin' for Blue Jean movie short.  :)
#1 TV Show: Dynasty (whatever, I was a fan of two TV things at the time- DOOL for the Bo + Hope supercouple drama and all of the videos on MTV)
#1 College Football Team: still no clue sorry
Number of Sites on the World Wide Web: not even a blip on my radar sorry.
Price of a Gallon of Gas: $1.13
Most Popular Video games: If I remember right, my friend got NES and we played Duck Hunt. But- I could be wrong. I remember loving the console game Marble Madness although I think that was later in the year or the next year after...

I started High School in 1988 and this was way before cellphones and computers came into existence.
Unless you were those rich kids from save by the bell. People forget that cellphones  were around in the 80s, bu but just wasn't widely used until the late 90s!
