Subject: Moments when 2000+ babies being old enough to do things made you say "holy sh*t"

Written By: 2007 fan on 06/02/18 at 3:58 pm

What are some moments when you shockingly realized 2000+ born people were old enough to do a certain thing (be in a certain grade level, get a job, drive, etc?)

I'm in Class of 2020 (born 2001-2002), and while I always have some held back 2000 babies in the same grade as me, the class above me still has held back 1999 babies, 1999 babies would have had to been held back two or three times to be in the same grade as me, which is very unlikely.

My 7th grade social studies teacher, four years ago, he told us when looking through his roster, he realized it was the first time he had a full 2000+ born class.

2003-(some) 2004 borns are old enough to get a job, restricting certain types of stuff they can do.

This is a bit inappropriate, but I realized the other day that there's gonna be strippers this year that were born in 2000 which is extremely weird to me :o ;D.

Yessssss, I know exactly what you mean. The fact that elementary schoolers later this year are mostly made up of early '10s borns is really weird to me. Sometimes the WIKI sites don't get things that accurate. A 1995 born was still old enough to get into iCarly and Fred (if you're talking about his YT channel), but Hannah Montana is debatable (preteen age at max). Remember the Hannah Montana merchandise at stores? The primary target audience for the kids TV stations have always been ages 6-11 (or 1st-5th graders) and once you hit 6th grade you're no longer part of the main target audience. However, when it came to certain preteen/teen shows middle schoolers age 11-14 and even high schoolers age 14-18, those were mainly for shows on blocks like TeenNick (or Snick back then) or Toonami. iCarly and Victorious had teen viewers up through high school, but Hannah Montana only went up to preteens at max but still the majority of its audience were elementary school girls.

Well of course, a lot of us were 10 or still 10 when the show premiered, and 2006 as a whole was still part of Disney Channel's good era but it's when the transition began along with half of 2007. When That's So Raven and Kim Possible ended in 2007 that's when the majority of late millennials (or mid 90's born's) quit Disney Channel. I'm sure a lot of folks don't admit it but watched season 1 of Hannah Montana because of all the other shows before that being so good, so there was hype for the show coming into 2006, and like I've said many times, think of all the other shows made between 2002-2005 that were still on the air in 2006, which was 90% of Disney Channel. IMO the 2005-06 season was still solid and good for Disney Channel (Hannah Montana wasn't until March) but the 2006-07 season of Disney Channel was the real slump.

and the Liv & Maddie actor (Dove Cameron) was born in January 1996 which is a month older than me, so did that make late 90's born's into her show? I don't think it has to do with that. The majority of Disney Channels shows have usually targeted girls in elementary school and sometimes girls in middle school but no older than 13 at max. Teen Nick's shows from Kenan & Kel and All That to iCarly and Victorious appealed to kids as young as 1st graders and high schoolers as old as sophomores. About age 17 at max.

LOL, But aren't they the epitome of the 'Tide Pod Generation'? Thats a fad thats popular among high schoolers ;D

Miley Cyrus herself was born in 1992. So why wouldnt there be 1995 borns who were into Hannah Montana?

I see plenty of girls who were born in 1995-1996 commenting on Hannah Montana related stuff.

Well of course, a lot of us were 10 or still 10 when the show premiered, and 2006 as a whole was still part of Disney Channel's good era but it's when the transition began along with half of 2007. When That's So Raven and Kim Possible ended in 2007 that's when the majority of late millennials (or mid 90's norms) quit Disney Channel.

I think all depends on a person to person basis. When it came to many of the classic Disney Channel shows from 2000-2005, most mid 1990s babies would've been into them. However, around the start of the High School Musical & Hannah Montana eras is when the love of the channel began to splinter. Many continued to watch it regularly through the Late 2000s, others stopped watching it completely by 2006-2007 (Eric is one those guys I know that stopped watching it around then), and others (like myself and Marquis) watched it more on a sporadic basis till like 2008-2009. I continued watching the Suite Life of Zack & Cody and even liked Suite Life on Deck. I'd also occasionally watch Wizards of Waverly Place mainly because Selena was hot af :D and Cory in The House. But other than that, I certainly wasn't watching the channel as regularly as I did when I was younger.

I think my experience is pretty pro-typical to how most mid 90s babies watched the channel throughout the 2000s; began watching it during its Zoog Disney phase in the early 00s (blocks like Zoog Disney & Disney Vault, DCOMs like Johnny Tsunami & Luck of the Irish, and shows like Lizzie McGuire & Even Stevens), watching the channel at its peak (at least to us) in the mid 2000s era (Kim Possible, That's So Raven, Phil of the Future, etc.), and our interest in the channel starting to wane in the Late 2000s during the rise of Hannah Montana, The High School Musical Trilogy, and (especially) Camp Rock.

PlayStation
My first computer
My second computer
Most of my VHS tapes
Some of my DVDs

Really isn't, it's mostly the 90s babies who are doing it i don't think a 13 year old would be that stupid enough to eat a tide pod it's called common sense.

Not what i'm saying it's called common sense to not eat a tide pod which i was a implying that it would be common sense for someone like a 13 year old to not a eat a tide pod this applies to everyone who has a brain to not eat a detergent used for washing clothes.

But aren’t you also using anecdotal evidence...?

Anecdotal evidence that’s (arguably) not as strong since your 3-4 years younger than us. I remember vividly in middle school (especially 7th/8th grade) that if you admitted to liking Hannah Montana, you’d probably get made fun of (especially if you were a guy). That may have been different from where you’re at, but since we both live in the tri-state area I’d imagine it being pretty similar.

Now where Maruquis is at in Georgia, you’d bet your ass that you would never admit to liking HM back then ;D.

I simply said that there were many 1995-1996 borns who liked shows like HM and then others like yourself and mqg96 who didn't. That statement is true.

You guys are saying that most 1995-1996 borns didn't care for shows like HM which is not true.

Also, of course liking Hannah Montana was consodered to be a bad thing as a guy. Most of my friends didn't watch it and if they knew that I watched it they would have called me "gay". That doesn't mean that there wasn't a lot of 1999 borns who watched Hannah Montana.

Once again, YOU CANNOT speak for us because you weren't our age at the time. If you're talking about 1995-96 girls you may have a point, but when it's comes to 1995-96 boys then this is completely false. Most guys around our age did NOT watch the show, but I can see a lot of 1999 boys being into the show because age 7 is still that age when you like everything you see no matter how good or mediocre it is. By age 10 despite being a kid you can comprehend better and realize what's good or bad. I was in 5th and 6th grade and most boys made fun of the show. Also, I'm pretty sure by age 10 & 11 you're not playing with toys like 6-8 year olds are doing. No 10 or 11 year olds were buying Hannah Montana merchandise lol.

Lol thats a pretty interesting tid bit to know. Also, our entire college careers has been during the Cavaliers v. Warriors Tug a War Battle for dominance. It started in the 2014-15' season, with the GSW winning that years finals, just for the Cavs to win the finals in the same matchup for the finals of the 2015-16' season, then to go back to the Warriors for the finals of the 2016-17' season, and now AGAIN for 2017-18'.

I went from a freshman in college eagerly excited to see James back in the Finals (with his home team nonetheless) after his embarrassing lost to the Spurs, to now a senior in college dreading another Cavs v. Warriors matchup ;D.

and after 1998 the Bulls run with Jordan finally ended leading to the beginning of millennial/Y2K culture in 1999, and 2008 was a huge transitional year when the 2000's starting dying out and 2010's pop culture was born. So it'll be interesting to see how the next couple of years will go.
