Subject: Movie characters who were better than the movies they're in?

Who, to you, are awesome characters in movies whose quality is in question?
My example: Qui Gon Jinn, for me, is one of the most awesome characters in the Star Wars franchise. He is calm, collected, stoic, wise, doesn't give a damn, has one of the best lines in the entire saga ("The ability to speak does not make you intelligent") which is up there with "Who's the bigger fool, the fool or the fool who follows him?" in insults in that series; He is just like a genuine space wizard, but he's in a film considered one of the worst in the series.
