Subject: Watershed Years

Written By: snps94 on 10/08/18 at 4:21 pm

What is a watershed year (or years) that you feel we should all take a moment to recognize for their importance to our society in recent decades?

In my lifetime, I’m torn between 2001 and 2008.

2001: Obviously 9/11, but also Bush Jr’s first year as president and technologies like the iPod and Wikipedia, movies like LOTR and Harry Potter, teen pop died and rap and pop rock took over. It really kicked off the 2000s culturally.

2008: The financial crisis and recession and Obama’s election, movies like Twilight started the YA movie trend, and The Dark Knight and Iron Man started the current superhero craze, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry changed the face of pop music, and the iPhone and social media really started to take over. It basically launched the 2010s culture.
