inspired by a topic in the 80s board:  In 1987, a song titled 'First time' by Robin Beck was recorded for a Coca-Cola commercial and went on to become a UK #1 hit in 1988.

What are some other jingles that became hits?

It Doesn't Matter by Coleman Wilde began as a jingle for Foster's Lager in Canada.  One half of the duo was Ralph Cole, the former guitarist of the 70s rock band Lighthouse.  The jingle proved so popular, it was released as a single and though it only peaked at #71 in Canada, it became one of the most played hits of 1989.

I couldn't find the actual commercial for this one, but here is The Homecoming by Hagood Hardy.  It began as a jingle for Salada Tea in 1972, and when released as a single in 1975, it reached #14 in Canada and #41 in the US.  One of the best Instrumental songs of not just the 70s, but of all time!
